Urlacher

Welcome back, Mize!

I saw a special on this printing technology...very cool stuff! Way to go science!!!

I hate to see the Urlacher era come to an end, but I'm glad he didn't end up on another team just to come off the bench. Hall of Fame!

Gross

Tonight I'm going here to see these guys. Good times.

Aitch...I owe you a name and pic...still looking for one. I'll get it sometime today.

Go!

I don't think HOF when I hear Urlacher's name

i think you're in the minotiry on that one

BLUE said...

nah, I agree with keith

they were talking about it on the radio here...he's a big name and had a good career, but he's not in the pantheon of great MLB

BLUE said...

seems like he was hurt all the time

Jugdish said...

seems like he was hurt all the time

towards the end, yeah, like a lot of players.

BLUE said...

he never won a SB, that will hurt him

BLUE said...

he's probably a HOFer, but just not a first ballot guy

Jugdish said...

he never won a SB, that will hurt him

it'll put him below ray lewis, but a ring in football is more important in the qb discussion than any other position

BLUE said...

and he dated nikki Hilton, so that's a negative ghost rider

Jugdish said...

he's probably a HOFer, but just not a first ballot guy

he'll be on the same ballot as lewis, so we'll see how it plays out

Jugdish said...

and he dated nikki Hilton, so that's a negative ghost rider

hall of shame

Keef said...

Just looked at his stats, doesn't scream hof

But he does have a HOF middle name

BLUE said...

he has a lot of tackles. If you look at stats, he averaged about 100 tackles a season...not sure where that ranks.

what will hurt him is he only avg 3 sacks/season and about 1 int per season

he was a great leader, but 5/6/8 years from now i'm not sure if people will remember that.

BLUE said...

and I like him a lot, i'm not trying to reign* on jug's parade

BLUE said...

put it this way.

if he'd have been the broncos MLB for the last 13 years, i'd be here arguing that he should be in the HOF

tem said...

1) urlacher is a hall of famer. 2nd ballot.

2) stats aren't the only way in. see: namath, joe.

3) from now until we all die if you are the Bears starting MLB for 10+ years you will make it in the the HOF.

BLUE said...

"2) stats aren't the only way in. see: namath, joe. "

he played in NY

He won a superbowl

he did commercials where he shaved his legs or something

BLUE said...

I will bet you $1,000 and a name/pic

tem said...

espn loves urlacher, thus he is a HOFer

Keef said...

what will hurt him is he only avg 3 sacks/season and about 1 int per season

Not counting the season he got hurt in the first game, he had 4 other seasons where he didn't even have a sack

BLUE said...

maybe if he played in a larger market

tem said...

chris carter only got in after espn loved him.

tem said...

"Not counting the season he got hurt in the first game, he had 4 other seasons where he didn't even have a sack"

jerry rice didn't have any sacks and he is in the hall of fame.

Keef said...

Karlos Dansby has numbers through 9 seasons that aren't that far off from what Urlacher had.
I'm not comparing the two, but I'm comparing the two

tem said...

ray guy will get in as soon as espn decides he should be in.

Keef said...

maybe if he played in a larger market

Going back to tem's comment, if Urlacher was a Jaguar for his whole career, we aren't having this discussion

BLUE said...

"Not counting the season he got hurt in the first game, he had 4 other seasons where he didn't even have a sack"

I noticed this too

BLUE said...

the interview I heard yesterday was with the guy from the Denver Post who actually is a HOF voter...he basically said it's not a slam dunk

BLUE said...

but I bet if urlacher goes to work for ESPN or Fox or somebody and works in the studio on gameday, he chances increase

BLUE said...

"chris carter only got in after espn loved him."

well all he did was catch Touchdowns

How is he ahead of Ray Ray?

Keef said...

How does Singletary not have his # retired in Chicago?

Ron Is My Co-Pilot said...

"How is he ahead of Ray Ray?"

There is probably more than 1 LB on that list

Keef said...

There is probably more than 1 LB on that list

I get that. But normally it would be 1 MLB and 2 OLB, no?

Ron Is My Co-Pilot said...

"what else does the man need to do to get in???!?!?!?"

36th most dominant player on Madden ever

Ron Is My Co-Pilot said...

"I get that. But normally it would be 1 MLB and 2 OLB, no?"

Just like the All-NBA teams have PG, SG, SF, PF, C? Nah, they don't care about that.

tem said...

Derrick Brooks (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) Ray Lewis (Baltimore Ravens)
Brian Urlacher (Chicago Bears

tem said...

derrick brooks is eligible for HOF next year...i hope he gets in 1st ballot.

Keef said...

Just like the All-NBA teams have PG, SG, SF, PF, C? Nah, they don't care about that.

Fair enough. Although I would say that's apple to apples. You have NBA guys who play more than 1 position all the time. You don't typically have guys in the NFL play more than 1 position

BLUE said...

he will

he won a superbowl

BLUE said...

the no sacks thing is hard to comprehend for urlacher

tem said...

i don't know if espn likes him enough.

i think he (brooks) has the stats to be 1st ballot, but i guess it depends on who else is up for the nod in 2014. looks like a light 1st ballot class....marvin harrison is eligible. not sure if anyone else good is.

Can't Catch A Break said...

since when are linebackers supposed to have sacks? - as a measureable for HOF

what is this NCAA where keef blitzes every down?

Can't Catch A Break said...

i mean sure sacks are great but that isn't what i need my MLB to do per se

Keef said...

since when are linebackers supposed to have sacks?

Not saying he should have 20 a year. But having 4 years w/o a sack is laughable

Can't Catch A Break said...

Can't Catch A Break said...

the 40 sacks/20 picks stat says all i need to know about The Lacher

even if 4 of those seasons he hung a donut in the sack dept.

Keef said...

just a difference of opinion

yep

Can't Catch A Break said...

what was Vogel's logic on leaving Hibbert on bench?

Jugdish said...

i can't give an unbiased opinion on urlacher. ive heard a lot of sports talk say he is first ballot. His first time on the ballot will be the same ballot with ray lewis, so who knows. first ballot or not, he'll be in the hall eventually

Keef said...

He wanted to guard the perimeter

BLUE said...

name another MLB that went 4 seasons without a sack.

my point is, ok if he doesn't blitz, then he should have more INTs

Can't Catch A Break said...

the he should have gotten a guard dog

BLUE said...

"what was Vogel's logic on leaving Hibbert on bench?"

no need for rebounding...he's slow...he didn't have a matchup (what's he gonna guard bosh)

all that being said. Hibbert should have been standing right in front of the basket...and let the other 4 guys guard the perimeter

Keef said...

the he should have gotten a guard dog

This is the NBA, not Air Bud

Can't Catch A Break said...

my point is, ok if he doesn't blitz, then he should have more INTs

other side of that is he had great coverage, always played his assignment in the defense what years were those 4 where he didnt get any sacks? - my guess is Tampa 2 not kind to MLB in the sack dept.

he was the best player on the field most Sundays for that team

His competition was Rex Grossman & Tank Johnson

Can't Catch A Break said...

"yes, that team that never won anything"

what'd they have 14 QB's during his tenure?

and their best shot, with him playing out of his mind, their qb was riding an excercise bike in the championship game

his other best shot
Peyton vs. Rex

Can't Catch A Break said...

now they don't, thought if they grabbed Game One they had a punchers chance (i figured about 14%) now it's 0%

BLUE said...

the tackling machine thing is funny.

you know who played MLB and was a tackling machine...Zach Thomas.

Do you think Zach Thomas will be in the HOF? He averaged 25% more tackles per game than Urlacher. Played 13 years...has similar INT and sack stats

Can't Catch A Break said...

"Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer"

stop with this nonsense you are king of circumstantial evidence on this blog (which I admire btw)

the Bucs knew the entire Raider playbook

Dilfer's 00 Ravens had the 2nd best defense in NFL history, Sanchez would be a champ if he threw for that team

Can't Catch A Break said...

zach thomas was a tackling clinic

but no not a hof'er

nobody feard that little ankle tackler
