Tuesday stuff

I won the two league I don't care about in Fantasy, but lost the one I do. Also, I picked NO for my suicide pick. I hate suicide pools though so I am glad. Cmtem still has two teams in that pool. She is a big fan of them. In any case, rough week for the $$$ things.

I still think the replacement officials are making roughly the same number of mistakes that the regular ones do. They need some procedural tuneups, especially the main guy who talks to the crowd, but penalty calling wise it seemed about the same.

Pirates won't finish above .500. Bastards. I am going to sell my hat.

What the hell is going on with the Texas Tech basketball coach? His players don't want him back? That's going to be awkward if he comes back.

I had no idea that every thursday would have an NFL game. I don't get the stupid NFL network though and I am not going to a bar on Thursday night to do anything other than play volleyball. That only takes an hour and it is a terrible workout. I don't even sweat. Meiz might get more action at horseshoes.

Upset alert for CFB, Florida State, Alabama and Michigan State. If they happen I am a genius. If not then upset alert is akin to thunderstorm warning. Or watch. Whichever means there won't be a thunderstorm.

Weathermen are never right. That still pisses me off.

Traffic guys are never right. That still pissed me off.

I need to go to work. I sleep too much.

You should get Christopher Nolan to direct instead of M Night, because that is some Inception-level type stuff right there.

ToddPacker said...

" I have no issue with the coverage"

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

tem said...

i have no issue either really. although i do wonder why 9-11 gets tons of coverage and pearl harbor gets none.

it was a serious question about when would it fade. i know pearl harbor was 70ish years ago and 9-11 was 11 years ago. so somewhere in that gap is when we forget.

tem said...

and pearl harbor seems to be a very comparable event.

more comparable than the OK city bombing for instance.

Jugdish said...

Pearl harbor gets plenty of coverage. Facebook and twitter skew it some because most people who were alive for pearl harbor probably dont have an account let alone post about it.

"Fact: Everybody was in, going to, or leaving New York on September 11, 2001."

That is not a fact at all. You should check your facts.

Tyler said...

But who knows because he is probably a zombie now.

Aitch said...

"so i wonder how long until we stop celebrating 9-11 every year.

eventually it will fall to the wayside just like pearl harbor day did."

This is why I don't think there should ever be a holiday/day of mourning or whatever. People look at it as a holiday and an excuse to party and bbq instead of what it is intended for. See: Memorial Day, Veterans Day.

Tyler said...

Also See: St. Patrick's Day, Cinco de Mayo, Arbor Day.

Aitch said...

"and pearl harbor seems to be a very comparable event."

More comparable in scope, absolutely. I think the difference, right or wrong, is PH was an attack on a Naval Base and mostly military personnel (I believe), as opposed to an attack on a civilian structure like the WTC.

"more comparable than the OK city bombing for instance."

Again, definitely was not on the same scale as far as number of people kille,d but more similar in as much as there were many civilians involved (even though it was a federal building).

Aitch said...

*killed, but

Tyler said...

Maybe in 200 years 9/11 becomes the U.S. Cinco de Mayo and foreign countries celebrate it by getting drunk on Budweiser, Miller, and Jack Daniels.

Aitch said...

"Pearl harbor gets plenty of coverage. Facebook and twitter skew it some because most people who were alive for pearl harbor probably dont have an account let alone post about it."

Probably a lot of truth to this. Facebook definitely does not remember, as I have pointed out here before.

Keef said...

Aitch said...

"civilian casualties"

Keef said...

Jesus

Tyler said...

But if you're going to rule out Pearl Harbor for being against a military attack, you have to do the same for OKC because that was a domestic terrorist attack. I would say that Pearl Harbor is the better comparison because that was a foreign attack on domestic (barely) soil.

Jugdish said...

I don't know anyone who thinks that Veterans Day is a day to party

Memorial day yes, veterans day no

Aitch said...

"especially considering we rarely talk about the pentagon getting hit and/or the PA field folks."

I know you're probably trying to goad EP, but I'd say the real reason for this is sheer numbers. Tragic as it was, the people killed in PA were the passengers and crew of UA93. What's the like 150? 100 were killed at the Pentagon. 3,000+ at the WTC, so obviously that is the place most associated with 9/11

Tyler said...

First part of that last comment was poorly constructed but you get the point. Neither are apples to apples but Pearl Harbor is closer because it's a foreign attack on domestic soil.

Aitch said...

"I don't know anyone who thinks that Veterans Day is a day to party"

Maybe not party, but they look at is as just another paid holiday off from work, as opposed to a day of remembrance and respect like it is supposed to be.

"Also See: St. Patrick's Day, Cinco de Mayo, Arbor Day."
