This is a clown post bro…

I bet if I didn’t mention it right at the beginning of this post EP would never realize that this isn’t a Jug post…

I think I’m going to use the married guy strategy with this post– make sure to not do it well enough to get asked to do it again.  Hey, if it works for you married guys with laundry, etc. I figure it should work for me with posting on LOV.  (Well except that hopefully your wives have more of an expectation of competence with housework than LOV does with posts...)  Consistent with that, I think the rest of this post is just going to be random shit.  In other words, like about 90% of LOV posts already.

Random Atlanta sports fact – The Braves this year are 0-10 on Mondays.  WTF?

Random pet peeve – All those damn 13.1 distance stickers showing up on cars all over Atlanta (and presumably across the country, well except for Wisconsin).  A half marathon is a nice accomplishment but wait 'til you run a full 26.2 to get a sticker.   Even worse are the people who run a half but refer to it as “a marathon”.
(Random side note on this - I saw a distance sticker the other day that Rev should have on his car – 0.0)

Random album that is way underrated – Peter Gabriel’s untitled 1980 album (unofficially known as “Melt” because of the melting face cover).  Most people probably only know "Games Without Frontiers" and "Biko" from it, but every song on there is either very good or great.

Random huge hit movie that I think everyone but me has seen – Top Gun

Random thought about vegetarians/Random rant – I hate how seemingly every vegetarian goes out of their way to tell you they are vegetarian.  If you don’t want to eat meat I respect that, but you don’t need to bring it up every damn chance you get.  Think about it, have you ever known a person for awhile yet were surprised when you found out they were a vegetarian cause they’d never mentioned it before?  I doubt it.

Random sex facts (cause I figure I have to talk about sex at least a little) – Based on a 2006 study, the average age for first intercourse is 16.9 for guys and 17.4 for girls.  (EP mentioning how he allegedly had sex at age 14 in 3…2…1...)  Yet even though women start a little later we not only catch up but pass you guys, because by age nineteen 69% of guys have had sex while 77% of women have.

OK, that’s enough for this post.  I have to try and save some ideas for next week too.  (Damn that lazy jug…)

i want to get one of those ultra marathon stickers. they are like 70.4 or something ridiculous.

i also want to get some of those stickers of kids and cats. i want me, 8 kids and 4 cats on the back of my car.

i keep threatening to get them and put cmtem and 10 cats on her car. she hates cats.

Beth said...

70.3 is actually a half Ironman triathlon (1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run) and not an ultra marathon, but yeah they can be just as bad, especially if they have one of those AND the full 140.6 sticker. Choose one dude.

A woman I work with is OBSESSED with those family and pet stickers on the backs of cars. Obsessed in that she takes pics to make fun of them. She's actually taken a pic of what you keep threatening cmtem with - 1 lady and a bunch of cats.

tem said...

how far is an ultra marathon?

needless to say i would be closer to rocking the 0.0 sticker than any other sticker.

Beth said...

I believe technically an ultra is any distance longer than a regular 26.2 marathon. There's no 1 set distance that's considered an ultra, although common ones are 50 and 100 miles.

depends on how much your loan is.

"more than likely it's not worth the closing costs they're going to tack onto the loan. It might lower your payment some, but remember you'll be paying 30 years again, as opposed to the progress you've currently made."

Tem knows.

I just refied and it was a pain in the ass. Whatever they promise they can get you, the rate will be higher and the closing costs will be more. I am saving about $100/month, but the interest is going to be lower, so I'll get less back when I file for taxes.

I could have paid a point to get 4.125% but we're just about to look for a house, so I didn't want to do that. Also, the paperwork was worse than when I originally bought it. I had to fax letters to the bank explaining every little detail.

Also, it got bought by a smaller bank and I have to see if I can pay it online. My old one was through Citi which was awesome because I could do everything online, the new one just sent me a payment book. Lame.

The benefits; you save a little money, you haven't been been paying your loan all that long so the reset isn't that big of a deal (you were probably right at 3 years, right?), you don't have to pay your mortgage for one month

Negatives: you pay less interest which means you claim less at tax time, if you roll the closing costs into the loan, you'll owe more than you currently do, you can't control who buys your loan, paperwork is a pain in the ass, you have to pay closing costs

Tyler said...

There are days where I honestly think I shouldn't have done it.

Tyler said...

You can always put the extra you're saving to the principal for about a year and then you'd be right back where you were before the refi (to basically cover the closing costs), but then you'd have a lower rate. That's what I plan on doing.

Keef said...

Tem knows.

Tyler said...

If you're an employee, they might go easier on you. My brother-in-law and his wife both work for BofA and they are refinancing, and they are getting sub 4% and getting points BACK. But he is a finance guy and works the system to death.

Blue said...

Re: online transactions

our old house we had a loan through BofA. They automatically withdrew the monthly payment on like the 6th or something.

We buy our new house..the loan gets bought by BofA. They won't do an autodraft unless you have a BofA checking account...there isn't a BofA location in Colorado.

So, while I can pay it online, i still have to make sure and remember every month to go in and manually pay it.

Tyler said...

It doesn't really cost anything until you get the appraisal done. So if you don't like it (I was on the fence about it but decided to do it anyway), I'm pretty sure you can walk away. At that point, they should have the rate locked in, so you can see what the scenario is. Once you pay for the appraisal and it's done that's where all of the money for paperwork and notaries and closing costs starts to kick in.

Votto's sack on my chin said...

BofA has changed a lot of their fees over the last three years. Since you were already in the system it probably wasn't a big deal. Now they charge for everything.

The bank that handles my new mortgage can do a monthly draw from my checking for no fee, but we're changing from monthly to bi-monthly paychecks at work, so I have to re-figure everything out before I decide to do that.

Spaceman Spiff said...

Get your checks direct deposited and you shouldn't have to worry about fees

Tyler said...

Get your checks direct deposited and you shouldn't have to worry about fees

I do this for Chase, but my wife works for a 5-person law firm that can't do direct deposit. So I got her in a credit union that doesn't charge for anything. When we set up her account, the guy said they were super busy setting up new accounts because BofA and Wells Fargo are charging fees unless you direct deposit.

Tyler said...

And if I remember correctly, I think that even if you have your check directly deposited, you still get charged to talk to a teller at BofA, unless you pay a monthly fee for it.

Which is completely lame.

Yes, credit unions are awesome. They usually have better rates than the bigger banks on everything. Also, usually higher rates on savings. I have accounts with two different credit unions. But I have most of my savings in an ING online account. But even they are below 1% on their savings accounts.

tem said...

i dont think she can go to a chase ATM and depoit a check to her wells account, although we've never tried it.

"There don't need to be. I used to deposit my paychecks at a US Bank ATM."

maybe i will write her a $2 check and we will try to deposit it into her account using a wrong bank ATM.

Tyler said...

"i dont think she can go to a chase ATM and depoit a check to her wells account, although we've never tried it."

You can, but you definitely have to pay the fee because Chase owns the ATM. But I think it also depends on what network they use. If you can find an ATM that uses the same network that Wells does, then they usually waive the fee.

I just found a website that says Chase was charging $5 for non-customers in 2011, but they've rolled that back to $3.

Tyler said...

So your $2 check would cost her $1 to deposit.

tem said...

"So your $2 check would cost her $1 to deposit."

hilarious.

that reminds me of when BB&T boat* out my small town WV bank. I had $4 in my account and BB&T sent me a welcome letter saying they bought the bank and were excited to have me as a customer...and that I owed them $6 because accounts like mine needed to pay a $10 per month fee.

i called and bitched and got the fee waived under the condition that i close my account immediately.

tem said...

"cheap calzone"

tem said...

APR takes into account compounding.

Blue said...

apr includes fees and other junk

interest rate is what the actual rate you'll pay on the money you borrow

APR is meant to be a measure of what the loan will cost you annually

Blue said...

this is a decent explanation

Blue said...

basically what they mean is taking the fees you pay up front and spreading that over the life of the loan to increase your interest rate.

tem said...

APR sometimes will take into account onlgoing fees the lender charges, but i don't think that is common.

tem said...

i sit corrected apparently it is the norm.

Blue said...

i always thought APR was just the daily rate compounded, i was very rudely corrected by a finance guy

tem said...

i thought it was the stated rate compounded plus the effect of ongoing fees.

i didn't know they put the upfront fees into the calculations.

tem said...

needless to say i don't think it matters unless it is vastly different than the interest rate.

if you had an interest rate of 3.875% and then an APR of 6% something is wrong.

Tyler said...

Oh ok, I think I understand. Is that why if you pay a point, your rate goes down? Because you're paying more fees up front?

my answer is yes.
