-well, I would have beat him to the spot, except the entrance ramp was pure ice. I wanted to beat him because getting stuck behind a highway plow on a snowy day is the worse. It was a split second decision I immediately realized I fucked up on, and it was going to be bad.
-I was right, just as I hit the highway, I got about 1-1.5 feet of snow instantly dumped on my vehicle. Too much for the wiper blades to do anything about it; literally was driving down the highway with 0 visibility outside the car.
-so, I pulled over to what I thought might be the shoulder. The problem is right off the shoulder is about a 50 feet drop (no rail or other protection), so if I went too far, my car would plummet. I of course erred on the side of parking on the highway.
-rolled the window down, poked my head out....almost got decapitated on that move, but was able to see that I had parked right in the middle of the highway and nowhere near the shoulder.
-so then, I shimmied my way half out of the car (standing near the petals with my body angled halfway outside the car); jumped up, did a quasi rotating pull-up, everything looked ok, but no-way to tell with absolute certainty. Definitely couldn't stay where I was at though, so I held my breath, said a quick prayer, and jumped back into the seat and gunned it pulling hard right.
Jumped out of the car, onto my hood and started clearing snow off as fast as possible. Luckily my second guess was right and I was parked on the shoulder. I'm sure it was pretty funny to those driving by

I jumped on the hood because there was so much snow on my vehicle, it was the only way I could clear it off. If there was less snow, I had longer arms or a smaller car that might not have been necessary

I never climbed out the window completely; once I hit the shoulder I opened the door and walked out.
I half crawled out the window when I was parked on the highway; I did this because cars were zooming past me on icy roads and it was the only way I could see where I was and whether I could possibly make it over to the shoulder w/out smashing into anyone (again, due to the foot + of snow completely covering my vehicle).
