NBA Lockout is over!!!!

EteO. Kind of funny that Jordan made a comment during the last lockout that if Abe Pollin couldn't get the wizards to make money he should sell the team (honest Abe was one of the people pushing for reform in the last cba). Now Jordan is basically saying the same thing. I think the deal gets done and it ends up being 51/49 split.

I also hate that they use the term BRI. They should use Basketball related revenue, or BRR. BRI implies that there can be some sort of offset to the gross revenues, but whatever, it's a bunch of highschool educated people running the player side.

Have you ever seen an old man who caused a car accident and the dumbfounded look on his face, like "what the hell just happened" and the family is all thinking "we should have taken the keys away from him years ago"...and there is a dead kid because of the accident. Or after the accident, the passenger in the car with the old man goes and sexually assaults the other car's passengers...yeah it's kind of like that.

I hope the Broncos claim Albert Haynesworth off waivers.

I hope Arkansas or Georgia beats LSU

I hope tem is happy and still married

I hope

the law falls short in this scenario, and i haven't heard anyone call for him to be charged, but being fired is certainly called for in this case. Trusting people or not, one of his assitant coaches was in the shower with a ten year old boy. Do something about that.

You don't need to do anything illegal to get fired. Tressel got fired and didn't do anything illegal. Like jug said, Paterno failed in his moral obligation here.

easy, because he reported it timely to the AD, just as the policies stated he was supposed to do.

This quote is from Andy Staples article calling for the firing of JoePa:

"Paterno didn't break any law. Officially speaking, he did exactly what was required when a graduate assistant told him in 2002 that he had witnessed Sandusky sexually abusing a boy (estimated age: 10) in a shower at the Penn State football complex. Paterno told his boss, athletic director Tim Curley. Paterno followed proper procedure."

He sums up perfectly why JoePa shouldn't be fired....and then makes the claim he should be fired anyway.

-In any case, Paterno did the right thing by reporting it to the AD, he had no other duty, and if he had gone directly to the police, he would have made national news for fucking up recruiting for his program, and causing distractions by NOT following procedures and reporting to his AD
-He was placed in a total lose/lose situation; either way he was going to be the bad guy to some. What was the dude supposed to do? I mean, really. If he hadn't told the AD, it would be TOTALLY different...but he DID tell the AD right away.

That should be sufficient; and it's a damn shame that Paterno will be remembered for this...and I don't even really like him or Penn State all that much.

Keef said...

That's bullshit. He wouldn't have been scrutinized if he went to the police and reported sexual abuse against a child

You SHOULD READ THE COMMENTS HERE. Noone said that legally he had to go to the police. In fact it's been mentioned numerous times that we recognize that he had no legal responsibility. The issue here is, morally, doing what is needed. You don't have to do something illegal to be fired. In this case, doing what's morally right is just as important, considering what happened. It's not like Sanduaky robbed a house and JP didn't tell the police. He did probably the most despicable thing any person could ever do, and JP could have done something to put an end to it and he didn't.

Keef said...

Just like the AD could have done something and he didn't. I'm not pitting it all on JP, but he didn't do the "right thing" in this particular case

Keef said...

And kod, I completely understand your view as to why he shouldn't be fired. He "followed the rules". But I think in a crime this severe, he knows that he could go beyond those "rules". I mean, for crissakes, he runs that university, not the presient.

I know that legally he cannot be charged with any crime, but it is morally reprehensible what he did or more accurately failed to do. With the level of control and influence that he has at that university, I find it hard to believe that he had no knowledge of what was going on. Furthermore I find it very hard to believe that he played no role in any coverup. Sandusky had already been investigated in 99 and was allowed to retire without those allegations ever surfacing.

Don't you wonder why a guy was involved in national championship teams and who produced so many nfl linebackers was never mentioned were even rumored to be considered for another collegiate coaching job?

And knowing that there were allegations in the past and allowing Sandusky To continue to have full access to his facilities makes Paterno complicit in any future acts that Sandusky perpetrated in my opinion.

NFL's First Lesbian QB said...

Maybe my comments towards Kod are a little harsh. I guess I am just really surprised by your stance on this. I guess I thought someone who is bound professionally by a moral code such as yourself would expect more morally from a person in a position of power.

I can't argue legalities with you, because obviously I am not knowledgeable about matters of law. Honestly, though, I just can't imagine knowing what JoePa knew, and just running it up the chain and washing my hands of the situation.

So many people failed here, from the assistant who witnessed the 2002 incident, the Ad, all the way up the chain. They should all be punished, to varying degrees, for any role they played in any coverup or for simply looking the other way. They were all cowards who were more concerned with their program and personal career aspirations than with the safety and well being of some already disadvantaged children.

Keef said...

The way I look at it is like this...if someone in the program breaks an NCAA violation, the coach should go through the chain of command to take care of it. If someone in the program commits a heinous crime like this and the coach is aware, you can go though the chain of command but you also better get the authorities involved or else you failed in maintaining institutional control

NFL's First Lesbian QB said...

So let me understand something. NS.

He was contractually bound to go the AD and not the police. I'm seriously asking. Because if there is an institutional policy that forbids an employee from reporting a crime, then that is the most fucked thing of all, short of the actually criminal acts.

So what was your comment about? Do you think there should be sanctions?

Do you think the AD or president should be fired?

Ok.

IMO legally speaking, they couldn't fire him without losing a wrongful termination suite, unless more information comes out that he didn't report more mandated information.

I think there is a lot of grey area on whether what he did and didn't do was ethical, or right, or just. But calling for his resignation or firing at this point is misdirected anger to me. It's common in sex abuse cases.

No, I find it very Uncle Joey that the all mighty, all powerful NCAA has zero control over this situation. That's all.

Ok, That makes sense

If the AD reported it to the president, and he didn't go to police, then the president should be fired and possibly jailed.

If the AD didn't report it to the president, then the above goes for the AD, but not the president.

Why are they legally obligated to report to the police but Paterno isn't?

yeah, I was speculating there is either a policy that the president report it to the police, or a law. Otherwise, I don't see the point of being forced to pass it up the chain of command

to say with any degree of certainty about the AD and President's duty, I'd have to review Federal and PA state laws and Penn State employment policies for the AD and President.
