LOL, OMG, J/K, BRB, LMAO, K, :)

Ranking the mob movies.

#1- The Godfather
I feel like I'd be shot, without ever see it coming, if I didn't have this movie as number 1.

#2- Goodfellas
Awesome movie. Based on truth, tremendous cast. What more could you want. the rewatchability is off the charts.

#3- Donnie Brasco
Another movie based on truth, prefect sad sack acting from Pacino and Johnny Depp before he went gay was awesome. The fuggedetaboutit scene is one of my favorites movie scenes of all time ever, legendary.

#4- The Godfather II
Rare a sequel is this good. Happen to win an Oscar too. This may be Robert DeNiro's best performance as a young Vito Corleone.

#5- Casino
The story about the Mob taking over Vegas. I'm not sure if you heard of a guy named Joe Pesci but he rocks the shit out of this move as the lil tough guy Nicky Santoro.

#6- A Bronx Tale
Don't waste ya talent C.

#7- The Departed
Scorcese does it again. Does he know Mob movies or what.

#8- Mean Streets
An older movie also directed by Scorcese. De Niro and Keitel were great, good story and nice violence. Also a good time piece. Really makes you feel like you are actually in Little Italy.

#9- The Untouchables
It wouldn't be a list without the story of Elliot Ness and Al Capone.

#10- Eastern Promises
Man the Russian mob is rough.

There can only be 10.

Any chance Cheryl Miller gets laid? None right? No way another human beds that alien. Kobe shitted on Jesus Shuttlesworth moment last night. He's a mamba. Yo St. John's is back on the scene and couple with the Knicks being somewhat back that makes MSG the mecca again. Wait? Is this why you guys hate New Yorkers? Comments like that? Shit. I'm sorry.

Sorry that NYC is awesome!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....

That was fun. First post in a minute not talking football. And seriously if they strike, I'll be back when they come back. I don't care if they strike half the season or even the full season. I'll be tight but I won't boycott NFL after. It's too awesome. If pussy went on strike would you not have some when it came back? No. Unless your name is Andy.

It amazes me how people have forgotten about how good the Untouchables is. It was huge when it came out, won a shitload of awards....but for some reason it hasn't had the legs of Casino, Goodfellas, or Godfather

not sure why that is; I watched it again last year and it holds up fine IMO

kill all the gophers said...

actually I suspect that it's because Kevin Costner is in it; he does a really great job....but people really soured on him after Waterworld

I haven't liked anything dude has done since the mid-90s (I have heard Tin Cup is good though) but Field of Dreams and Untouchables are both in my all time top 20 movies (and Bull Durham might be top 50). "Withstood a constitutional attack on the grounds of self-incrimination in Sisson v. Triplett, 428 NW 2d 565."

I just looked up the case because it baffled me how they get around the self-incrimination protections....turns out:

"(2) Act, which includes confidentiality provision, which explicitly provides that dealers are not required to give name, address, or other identifying information, and which permits stamps to be mailed to any address or picked up by one other than the dealer, does not violate state and federal privileges against self-incrimination."

-hilarity, I wonder how many of those stamps have been submitted; I'm gonna guess 0

smrt; you'd think with his line of work he'd realize it's still federally illegal to grow weed without a gov't waiver (which they only grant for scientific study)

tax stamps? They affix those to every pack of cigs sold in the US; I guess they figure in theory they can regulate and tax weed that way too

kill all the gophers said...

Whatever party is in control when they legalize and tax it is going to get a huuuge political windfall, in that it is going to cut a ginormous chunk out of our deficit. And I suspect the results will not be that bad for public safety, kids, etc. (shit, it's already almost as easy for kids to buy pot underage as it is cigs)

the cynic in me says most Republicans won't support it though because they want high deficits, at least for the time being, to justify cutting programs they don't like (i.e. programs aimed at helping the poor)...which is why I also believe Bush racked up the deficit (under Rove's direction) and how some can rail against our deficit and then just as passionately support the Bush tax cuts for the top 2% (which accounts for 25% of our deficit)

but again, cynic.

ok, but one last CoL thing to add about legalization

The one thing that gives me pause is the lack of a quick test for people driving under the influence of mj.

It's dangerous, and if people use visine, the eye test is too subjective...field sobriety tests are imperfect as well, and easily exploited by accomplished attorneys.

so...not sure about legalization just yet
