Don't Call It A Comeback...

Almost forgot to post. Tuesday nights are bad for me because I get home from bowling late. Speaking of bowling, My average is still hovering in the 180 range. Every time I do something good, I do something stupid and it's back to 180. Highly annoying.

So the Lakers won. This depresses me because now we begin the very painful and extremely long wait until the Football season begins. I like baseball and all, but their season is pretty much meaningless until August/September, and by then Football has started, so by that time I just really don't care. Yet another thing that is wrong with baseball.

In other basketball news, Hedo Turkoglu (thanks to his page on ESPN, I know that his name is pronounced "HEE-doe TUR-koe-loo") opts out and the Magic say they're going to go into the luxury tax to keep him. I think they've gotta keep him and I would be very surprised if anyone else opted out of their contract in the off-season. Hedo seems like he's the only one that could benefit from it. Everyone else is scared and for good reason.

Sammy Sosa tested positive for PEDs in 2003. Time to take the Sammy earmuffs off, Freak, he's dirty. If you're going to crucify Arod, then you've gotta do the same to Sammy, cuz he's on the same list that Arod was on. In fact, he also worked out with the same sketchy trainer, Angel Presinal. And Sammy's had a couple of other misadventures, like the corked bat episode. So, what the hell happens now? Baseball is a mess.

Stallworth buys his way out of a long jail sentence. The keys words in that article are: $5 million umbrella insurance policy. CA-CHING! He only has to serve 30 days. I'm not trying to defend Michael Vick here, because I think what he did was disgusting, but Michael Vick served a year and a half hard time. Stallworth KILT* A DUDE and is getting 30 days. That's our justice system, folks. Here's one interesting caveat to Stallworth's sentence: "lifetime driver's license suspension". So now he has to do what he should have done in the first place and hire a driver. More pro guys should look into this.

Stallworth is lucky the guy he hit wasn't holding a puppy.

Then he would have gotten 2 years hard time and fined millions.

Also today, at 5:45 pm ET, Obama signs a presidential memo granting same-sex benefits to federal workers. This move, however, seems mostly about placating gay-rights advocates who have been angered by 1) the administration’s hesitance in overturning “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”;
2) its brief defending the Defense of Marriage Act, which Obama has promised to repeal; and
3) Obama’s invitation of Rev. Rick Warren to deliver the prayer at the inauguration.

In fact, some wealthy gay supporters of Obama have become so mad that they’re taking their names off an upcoming Biden fundraiser. Of course, the Obama White House has been very reluctant to get involved in cultural issues, and it seems intent on avoiding all the early mistakes Bill Clinton made (like “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”). Yet today’s presidential memo is a reactive attempt to quell the anger coming from the gay community. But even the memo doesn’t seem to go far enough for gay-rights advocates. For one thing, as the New York Times notes, the benefits for same-sex couples won’t be extended to health care.

El Padrino said...

re: Osama

by now it's clear that America was sold a false bill of goods by Osama. He ran a perfect campaign and pulled the wool over everyone's eyes.

We, as a country, were ready for a new voice and hope (albeit, as it turns out, false hope).

Osama is no better than any other politician or POTUS. How bad he'll be is still yet to be determined. What is clear is that he never did have a plan and when he's called on this and other things he points fingers and gives more rhetoric (things he didn't do or promised not to do on the campaign trail).

After nearly 5 months of political speak and praying on people's fears and hopes, we still haven't seen the plan.

FYI people - there is no plan.

When its time for re-election his new message will be "we've almost dug ourselves out of the whole Bush left us in". Then after the end of his 2nd term we'll all be left scratching our heads wondering - what the fuck just happened - nothing has changed.

There's been enough time now to see that all of these magical cures he had aren't real or won't work. The nearest you can tell his "plan" and idea of "CHANGE!" was turning us into a socialist society.

re: Vick vs Stallworth

Probably the biggest reason Vick got a longer sentence is the special interest groups - PETA, Humane Society, etc, and the influence they exert.

Does an poor, immigrant (dood was an immigrant right) have anyone in his corner?

It's easy for PETA to rally around Vick, but who's rallying for that poor scrub?

Further evidence of how our society is fucked up.
