The political discussions can definitely be interesting, amusing and pathetic all at the same time.

WADR to all involved, I'm not sure anyone is making their points the best they could be. (And I'd be no better, which is why I normally stay out of them.)

best quote

"There was a time whn the Braves were what almost every company aspires to be -- a hugely successful enterprise that maintained a mom-and-pop feel."

talks bout how it's no longer like that, how they seemed a bit desperate now to return to prominence (evidenced by signing Lowe to a 15MM per contract over 4 years) and how they were burned by Burnett and Furcal.

Beth said...

Yep, it used to be people took less to come to the Braves and now they're getting rejected for other teams left and right. Success only lasts so long in sports though.

Just be ready for when that happens to the Mets - oh wait, they need to be successful for more than a few months first for that to happen to them...

(Sorry, couldn't resist.)

"Kobe was Kobe Nash out there tonight."

blue said...

"Blue, is that a Mort-style rumor or an actual rumor?"

actual rumor going around here in Denver for the last few hours.

There was talk a few weeks ago that he really liked KC's defense, has a good relationship with the owner...blah blah. He's like best friends with Gunther Cunningham too, so i figured when gunther left, that meant no way shanny was going there.

From the ESPN rumor page:

"The latest name to be associated with taking over the reins in Kansas City is Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator Todd Haley, and NFL analyst Cris Collinsworth tells the Kansas City Star that Haley is the right man for the job."

If Collinsworth says it's Haley, then it's Haley.

Tyler said...

That comment was so nice, blue had to post it twice.

El Padrino said...

Tyler said...

If Shanny takes over, he'll immediately put LJ into a timeshare, or trade him for an aging Cornerback and some weight equipment.

El Padrino said...

t, it must be the system but duhon is good

Tyler said...

"jeff kent's stache is bitchin'"

That's why it signed it's own contract. It's still got a few more years left in the tank.

Tyler said...

Re: Duhon

Yeah, I think part of it is the system, but I also think that the Bulls didn't know what they had in him and he got stuck behind the logjam they had at guard. He showed flashes of greatness when he was at Chicago, but that backcourt was loaded (and it still is) so he didn't get any run.

It's too bad he's a Duke product, otherwise I'd be a bigger fan.

i know, damn shame

if i'm not mistaken he only signed a one year deal so if nash really is coming here i think he should re-sign too, would be a nice 1-2 and nash is versatile enough to score from the 2, just defending the opposite two will be hard

Tyler said...

I mean, who would you rather have right now if you're the Bulls? Hinrich or Duhon? Even a year ago, I'd take Duhon. Hinrich is just terrible.

Bottom line: the Bulls are a mess.

Keith S said...

I'm not gonna lie. I just read the headline

Duhon signed a two year deal for $12 mill.

JFreak said...

"Just remembered that I owe you a week name/pic for OSU not winning 11"

Admirable. I'd completely forgotten.

I'll have something by tomorrow.

Tyler said...

Suns have a team option on Nash for next year. So 2010, they could sign them both, Duhon might be a little pricey though, if he's putting up some huge numbers. I agree though, I think it would be a good 1-2, and Duhon is younger and better on D. And if he can get some tutoring by Nash, watch out.

El Padrino said...

then i was mistaken

El Padrino said...

Walsh has to re-sing Davd Lee, he's a walking double double.

Tyler said...

I would not be surprised if the Suns let Nash walk after this season. I think it would be a dumb move to let him leave and not get anything back, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happened. They'll try and shop him before the deadline, but he's obviously unhappy and Kerr is going in an entirely different direction. Not saying it's definitely going to happen, just saying I wouldn't be surprised.

Tyler said...

They've got a lot of money to spend in 2010, but they've got a lot of people to sign. I agree on Lee, I think he's fits Dantony's system like a glove.

El Padrino said...

I'm pumped

El Padrino said...

Keith S said...

Getting pumped for a 2nd round exit doesn't sound very NYC-like

Tyler said...

In 2010, they're on the hook for two contracts, and have team options for two others. If they take the team options, their payroll is $18 mill. Considering they've spent at least $100 mill the last couple of seasons, that's a lot of dough, but they've also gotta sign 11 guys.

Keith S said...

Alright. Let's talk politics!

Keith S said...

Tyler said...

Man, that Curry contract is killing them too. All those picks they gave up, they're paying him $10 mill and he hasn't played this year, he has two more years on the contract and they're both player options, and they pretty much can't trade the guy. Worst trade ever.

El Padrino said...

"Getting pumped for a 2nd round exit doesn't sound very NYC-like"

suite deal on the camera

cheap

El Padrino said...

did it have a recording feature?

Keith S said...

It says movie mode. Doesn't give specs, though

spaceman spiff said...

"Is this a decent deal?"

appears so, but those canon cameras with that straight box design, where the cam looks like someone drew a rectangle are the shittier ones. when you hold it, it just feels like a piece of shit, very empty feeling. if you care about that sort of thing

Tyler said...

I would jump on that camera El P. That's a damn good price. I bought the SD770 for my girlfriend and it's pretty awesome.

Tyler said...

Agree with Spiff on the taking picture thing. It's smaller than the older Canon's too, so it takes a little getting used to. It has a movie mode. You can record up to 2 hours if you have a big enough memory card.

El Padrino said...

wow like 8 months ago 7MP was a big deal

Tyler said...

I looked on Canon's site, it shoots movies at 640 x 480 and at 30 frames per second, you can put an hour on a 4 gig card.

Tyler said...

"wow like 8 months ago 7MP was a big deal"

Yeah, it's not an SLR, but for the price you're still getting 10mp, and it's not bad for a tiny point-and-shoot camera. It will be more than what you need, my girlfriend loves hers, her old camera was a POS.

Tyler said...

I gotta get some work done. Piece.

El Padrino said...

A deal that would send Jermaine O'Neal to Miami and Shawn Marion to Toronto is progressing. According to a league sources, the two teams have exchanged medical records, usually a precursor to a deal.

spaceman spiff said...

"OK suite. Thanks. Gotta get a camera for Hawaii next month"

blue said...

"can you answer IRS related questions, like why would IRS audit me if I did this or that?"

I know very little about audits.

I do know that if you own your own business you have about a 70% chance of being audited on your personal return becuase everyone fucks that up.

I've been told that as long as you stay within reasonable limits for deductions given your income, you won't set off any redflags and get audited.

blue said...

and there is shit you can't fake, like mortgage interest and w-2 info, basically anything that a company submits to the IRS, they do a cross check.

El Padrino said...

what about hardship withdrawals

blue said...

from your 401k?

blue said...

they will catch that typically, because the 401k management has to report those types of things to the IRS.

blue said...

it would also depend on the amount. if it's really immaterial when compared to your total income, it might slide past them for a while, but eventually they'd catch it.

El Padrino said...

"it would also depend on the amount. if it's really immaterial when compared to your total income, it might slide past them for a while, but eventually they'd catch it."

well, i would pay taxes on it but there are rules surronding it, like intention of use

for instance if your using it for medical reasons and you get audited you have to provide copies of medical bills and whatnot

if you dont, I dont know what happens

blue said...

if you don't have the bills to back it up, then you'd have to pay tax on it, plus penalties and interest...and it might not be 2 years until they get to it, so the penalties and interest can be the killer part

Steve said...

The French are funny.

El Padrino said...

i guess, in essence, my question is two fold.

1) if I pay taxes on the w/d why would I get audited

2) what happens if I said it was for educational fees and I dont have any

seems silly, like would they take the w/d back, like i would owe them
that seems unfair to me, it's my money

Meiz said...

good morning, all

El Padrino said...

"if you don't have the bills to back it up, then you'd have to pay tax on it, plus penalties and interest...and it might not be 2 years until they get to it, so the penalties and interest can be the killer part"

but i'm paying the taxes on it upfront, at least 10% on the entire amount which in reality is not that big

blue said...

"1) if I pay taxes on the w/d why would I get audited

2) what happens if I said it was for educational fees and I dont have any"

if you pay the taxes on the withdrawal, you won't get audited.

the reasoning behind why you withdrew the money is of no concern to the IRS, i think. That would be between you and your 401k company. They may come back and say you have to pay an early withdrawal penalty if they found out you weren't using it for what you said. But that's highly unlikely.

El Padrino said...

apologies but my plan admistrator cant answer these simple questions for me

El Padrino said...

and thanks for your tax knowledge

El Padrino said...

how ya doin meiz

blue said...

"seems silly, like would they take the w/d back, like i would owe them
that seems unfair to me, it's my money"

nope, IRS won't care. the 401K company might charge you a early withdrawal penalty if they found out you bamboozled them so you didn't have to pay that fee.

Meiz said...

"how ya doin meiz"
