El Padrino's 2007 Footyball Preview (NFC)

Ahhhh Football. Everything in life is good now.

NFC East - When the East is in the House OH MY GOD! DANGER!

Eagles (12-4) - Scary stat : He's played 16 games just once in the past five seasons. Discomforting, yes. Odds he'll be healthy, not good. But you know what. Even when he's gone down the Iggles find a way to win games. Now, if he's healthy and I think he will be then I think the Eagles have a legitimate shot to represent the NFC in the Bowl. As much as it pains me to say that I believe it's true. The combo of Westbrook and Buckhalter, the secondary, and the pass rush = a nice season for the birds. Also they play NFC North opponents as every NFC EAST team does. Packers, Lions, Vikes = 3 automatic wins.

Cowboys (9-7) - Well the D will be barking, that's for sure. As much as a dumbass Wade Phillips is he knows how to run a 3-4. And with the talent Dallas has I know it's going to be good. I just hope he can disguise the Secondary issues. Roy Williams is only interested is breaking collar bones, Newman has to battle a season long foot injury and I'm not sold on Anthony Henry as "shutdown" yet. Jason Garrett running the O perplexes me but he is a fucking nerd so who knows. Could be a diamond in the rough. I would pencil them in for 10 wins but in the NFC east you always assume a split with each team is fair.
Player to watch : RB Brian Westbrook

NY Giants (8-8) - This agonizes me but I could only play spin doctor for so long. They already have injury issues, they have a lame duck coach, new GM, third year first round (QB) pick that has all the pressure on this side of Japan on his shoulders and, and a brutal december schedule. And no matter what anyone says, you do not replace a Tiki Barber. Yes I'm sad but here's to hoping for a win @ Dallas this Sunday night.
(and as a sidenote, I really hope Eli has a good year because the media will be so brutal if he doesnt and he'll end up on a ranch somewhere as Ryan Leaf's farmhand)
Player to watch : QB Eli Manning

Redskins (8-8) - Aren't the Redskins always 8-8? Do they ever have to change the record books since the Snyder era? Campbell is still a bit raw but learning on the job is the only way to improve. The defense looks better on paper but when is that not the case in our nations capital. You know what, looking at thier schedule I have to say I might be short changing them. Home against Detroit, Miami, Arizona, and Buffalo. If Campbell stays away from turnovers I could be wrong.
Player to watch : FS LaRon Landry

NFC North - Ditka!

Da Bears (10-6) - By default. This division is still shitty but the Packers are better, the Vikes have a nice 1-2 punch at RB that will keep them in games and Detroit is somewhat of a Wild Card. Opening in San Diego is no picnic, traveling back out west (later in the season) to play in Oakland then Seattle only to come home and have Denver waiting for you is not a tea party either. But the defense still growls like a hungry wolf and despite what everyone thinks-- IT'S NOT EASY BEING AN NFL QUARTERBACK. I know Grossman stinks at times but with that defense he is more than serviceable.
Player to watch : TE Greg Olson

Packers (9-7) - Pack finished 4-0 in the last four games in last year's campaign and had a very good off-season. They have some young talent on defense and offense, Farve is looking to go out on top somehow and Brandon Jackson might be this season's big surprise. I do worry about thier schedule. If they can get to bye week at 3-3 or 4-2......watch out now.
Player to watch : RB Brandon Jackson

Vikings (8-8) - Like I mentioned earlier the combo of Chester the Molester and A.D (All day Adrian Peterson) will keep them in plenty of games this year. Couple that with a nasty front four and that equals the years El Pad's Cover Dog Team of 2007. I also think we are all underestimating QB Tavarias Jackson. Quote from coach Childress : "He's ahead, systemwise, of where Donovan was after one year". Bet against them if you please.
Player to watch : RB Adrian Peterson

Lions (4-12) - I ain't pickin them to finish better until they actually finish better. Prove me wrong.
Player to watch : WR Calvin Johnson

NFC South - The Bad Newz Kennelz Division

Saints (11-5) - Clearly the best team in this division the Saints will try and get back to the NFC championship game and this time, move on to the show. I can argue that Sean Payton is the best in game play caller alive today. True, the fact he has Bush for finesse and McCallister for thump at his disposal helps not to mention one of the most accurate passers in the game but I worry about the defense. They tend to give up the big plays and that can hurt them. When you start to look at who they might be facing in the playoffs (Westbrook, S. Jackson, Seattle's offense, or the improved Bears offense)it can really, really hurt them. Either way they will be exciting again and should be a playoff team.
Player to watch : RB Reggie Bush (duh)

Panthers (10-6) - Hardest team to evaluate. Tons of talent, good coach, formidable defense and solid two punch running game. Jake Delhomme? I don't know, gremlins were calling for his head late last year. They did get a new offensive coordinator so if he calls the right plays and puts the QB in situations where he can suceed this team could, could tap that potential they are expected to.
Player to watch : RB Deangelo Williams

Buccaneers (7-9) - I like Garcia for this team, I think it buys them 2 or 3 wins that they wouldn't have had with any of the other scrubs they got on that depth chart (I am a Simms fan though). But the fact remains you can't win games in the NFL if your old and they are old. Again, Garcia helps but only staves off the firing of Gruden, nothing more.
Player to watch : DE Gaines Adams

Falcons (5-11) - My what a twisted web we weave. I could buy into the idea that after a 0-4 start Bobby Petrino will silently be pumping his fist. Why? Well his boy Brian Brohm could be the #1 pick in next years draft and he will definetely want that pick after seeing Harrington float a pass into Ronde Barber's hands for a TD. The defense will have to keep them in games this year and I can't expect that of them for all 16 games.
Player to watch : RB Jerious Norwood

NFC West - They were who we thought they were!

Rams (11-5) - Am I the only guy who thinks the greatest show on turf is back? Bulger getting his money (sometimes a bad thing but not here), Stephen Jackson is a man, 2nd year coach, 2nd year under a very good defensive coordinator (Haslett), Holt and Bruce still doing work, throw in McMicheal and Bennett and to me you got a division winner. P.S - They lost to Seattle last year by a combined 4 points.
Player to watch : DE Adam Carriker

Seahawks (10-6) - Right there behind St. Loo the Hawks have just about the same talent as they did two years ago, the year they went to the Super Bowl. A healthy and determined Alexander will be music to coach Holmgren's ears and Hasselback will start exploring the possibilites of his young receiving corp. The defense should be alot better as well. Let's not forget one of the best home field advantages in the game today.
Player to watch : WR D.J. Hackett

Niners (6-10) - I ain't going to go crazy and put them in the playoffs like some yahoo's are doing. Do I think they will be better than last year? Yeah I do. But the record won't reflect that. Teams have enough tape on Gore now, they are starting two rookie LB's and Alex Smith is still a bit wet behind the ears. If they split with Seattle and St. Loo then maybe just maybe they will prove me wrong but I'm pencling in at least 3 losses just to those two teams.
Player to watch : LB Patrick Willis

Cardinals (4-12) - I don't pick teams just cause it's the sexy pick or because they are due. If I did we'd have a Lions/Cardinals NFC championship game. Then what?
Player to watch : SS Adrian Wilson

Playoff teams: Eagles, Saints (Byes)
Panthers, Seahawks, Rams, Bears

Wild Card:
Seahawks over Rams
Panthers over Bears

Divisional:
Eagles over Seahawks
Saints over Panthers

NFC Championship
Eagles over Saints

AFC preview tomorrow, this is long enough.

As far as tonights game I'll take the points (Saints +6.5) as both offenses will be gunz blazin'.
Indy wins by a FG though, also take the over (52.5).

Stay tuned........

Damn, I can't believed I missed fmtem on LovAD last night, but I'm glad she gave me a few shout-outs. :-)

Tem, she clearly needs her own account (or you can just refer her to my email...)

did you see the phillies/braves highlights?

Why not us?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHa

told you guys they swept the mets only to tease their fans, they like the heartbreak to be massive

and i am not DTM fools

Beth said...

That was a very weird win for the Braves, most of their runs were off of fluke bloop hits.

One interesting stat for the Braves though. Diaz, who got the game-winning double w/ 2 outs to score 3 runs, is now hitting over .500 with the bases loaded.

Beth said...

And while I don't really believe that EP = DTM, I like the idea. :-)

Beth said...

More likely than EP = DTM is that in LovAD yesterday Tem = fmtem.

Weazy is a fucking douche....so is AD Afro...they picked up all the guys that MVN dropped because freak was a fucking idiot with how he dealt with the waived players.

Nice little bump for the playoffs huh?

Weazy picked up Schilling, Glaus, Okajima, and Juan Pierre...

FREAK better fix this

AD Afro I could care less about because he's in the consolation bracket, but he picked up Dice-K and Kazmir.

You know, I've never been in a fantasy sports league (and have zero desire to be) but it seems to me that they cause more aggravation than enjoyment, or at least the LOV one does.

it's what you get when guys (blue, weazy, freak) just take it way to seriously. you have to play with guys that have a life outside of fantasy.

taking it seriously?...like calling themselves champ?

I get a kick out of some of these CFB teams who had a great opening weekend, so now they expect to be in a BCS bowl or something...case in point Georgia Tech and Washington...

Get a fucking life. Like I am going to not put in a waiver claim and let others pick them up.

Glaus, by the way, dropped all the way FA status. Nobody, including me put in a claim.

Complain to your commish (worst ever btw), not to me.

I told you beforehand what I was doing.

yes, i agree. Freak and Mantooth ruined the league. Agreed.

Rosters should have been locked for Mantooth, and players should have been put back in the lineup.

Freak sucks. I know.

JFreak said...

"Like I am going to let players go to you guys and not put in a claim?"

Given the volume of players you picked up, if someone else had put in a claim, they would have gotten at least a few of those players.

You were the only person in the playoff race to do so.

And really, no one else was going to do anything, so I didn't think I would have to mess with the rosters.

It wasn't a problem until you made it a problem.

By integrity, do you mean forewarning you of what I am goign to do, and then following through with it?

Dikembe Meiztombo said...

TP, go with NyQuil, and play video games while under it's influence. You will be in the zone, guaranteed.

I used to do it if I had a big Madden matchup or If I couldn't beat a particular level on something.

It's especially effective with the Tony Hawk games.

keef how'd you know so much jets trivia? did you look that shit up?

isiah thomas said...

In the event that a playoff game ends in a tie, the deadlock will be broken using the following system:

(See below if your league does not use one or more of the following categories.)

Lowest team ERA.
Highest team AVG.
Lowest team WHIP.
Most team HR.
Most team wins.
Most team RBI.
Most team saves.
Most team runs.
Most team SO.
Most team SB.
Random "coin flip."
