What the hell is going on out there?

I have no clue. I'm not sure there are any sports going on right now.

So the Celtics finally won. Shocking. I wonder how many Boston fans actually thought they would end the streak. Less than 5%?

The Colts are your Super Bowl Champions.

Mariano Rivera joins Big Z saying that if he isn't signed before the season, he's gone. As much as I hate anything Yankees, Rivera is a damn good closer.

Michael Waltrip got a huge penalty handed down. He's -100 points going into the season. He lost his crew chief and vice president for a long time. Things get better for the crew chief...he's getting fired as well. I have to assume that means he was responsible. I kept hearing different sources saying the "mystery substance" that was found was jet fuel. Yes, jet fuel. Where do you get the idea that jet fuel would help the performance of the car? Does that really work?

I spent all of yesterday being snowed in. So I decided to make a snow ramp off of my deck. It's about six feet high and totally sweet.

The Yahoo site is doing matainance, so the Fantasy Baseball League doesn't open until tomorrow. I'm suggesting using ESPN instead, because ESPN's live-scoring updater is free, as opposed to 10 bucks for Yahoo. We'll put it to a vote.

Last, but most importantly, the video of the week. It's long, but certainly worth it.

PETA sucks.

ToddPacker said...

ep, what's the NY media doing with the Rivera thing? I would think they are backing rivera.

ToddPacker said...

h, LOV can be slow in the AM, but it usually more than makes up for it in the afternoon

ToddPacker said...

for you guys complaining about snow and ice, it's a chilly 50° here in tampa and it's supposed to get down to the upper 30's on friday... i might actually have to throw on a jacket

the morning LOV zoo is a dead show. Things don't ramp up until 9:30ish at the earliest.

temwr said...

I vote ESPN because it is free. Even though I like yahoo's set up and user interface better.

temwr said...

jet fuel in an engine, what a crazy idea.

the best part is that they found the stuff in prequalifying inspection and told him to go change his manifold and get it out of there. then the crew chief had the balls to leave it in there and he got busted for the same thing post qualifying.

and mikey qualified like 30th so it didn't do a lick of good.

temwr said...

I haven't looked yet, but there is a 100% chance DS starts with the Tim Hardaway stuff.

H said...

RE: Waltrip.

Actually, the manifold was confiscated in during the pre-qualifying inspection I believe.

And from SI: "Adding the substance, described by NASCAR as an oxygenate, would boost the octane in the fuel, thus making the engine run better at higher horsepower. It was believed by NASCAR that the substance worked its way through the fuel system." So that answers your question, Freak.

H said...

And I needed hot water to even get into my car this morning. The boors were frozen shut. I hate winter.

rome will be all over hardaway today. he really gets on the homophobe guys... i wonder if it hits too close to home?

El Padrino said...

how do you think toyota feels about this?

it was thier debut

hahahahahaha

fuck you japs

temwr said...

yes they took the first manifold during pre qualifying inspection and he had to put another manifold in. and then the post qualifying manifold (a new one) had the same shit in it.

i guess if he put the shit in his fuel that explains how it got in both manifolds.

temwr said...

rome definitely has done a few guys. without a doubt.

H said...

you guys not fans of Rome?

H said...

you know what's funny Tem, I was watching a bit of the qualifying on Sunday, and they were intervieing Harvick who was right in front of Waltrip in line. Harvick talked about his car for a bit, then pointed out Waltrips, saying how it had shiny chrome rims and then saying that Michael was the most nervous guy on Pit Road. I guess now we know why.

temwr said...

Harvick is a funny guy. I am a fan of his.

I am not a fan of Rome. I dislike any host that uses raising their voice as their main means of emphasizing a point. He is not near as bad as SAS, but he yells too much. It is annoying. Also he just seems to be a dickhead.

I also hate Dan Patrick because he seems like a dickhead.

ToddPacker said...

h, actually i listen to rome at work (he's better than local clowns on the other sports stations)... sometimes it's funny to me other times i have to turn off the radio...

whocares said...

Just caught up on last night's comments.

H, I know you dont want to hear it, but props to you on the roommate situation. Any chick that walks around topless is looking to get laid by her roomie. That's just a fact of life.

End of story.

ToddPacker said...

good point, wc

whocares said...

Rome tends to beat a dead horse on most issues, just saying the same line like five times in a row with five second pauses in beteween. His callers are great though.

whocares said...

But he did rip off Auburn with his "War" everything.

H said...

It's all good WC, new opinions are always welcome. And I'm throwing in a much hated "lol" for good measure.

Mills said...

I used to listen to Rome everyday. Loved it.

Then 3 things happened:

1) He wanted Kirk Ferentz to come on his show, but Kirk didn't want to do it. So instead of manning up, Rome decided to call out Ferentz and say that there were 50 coaches in Iowa high schools that were just as good as Ferentz, and that Ferentz was an awful coach (we were No. 3 in the country at the time).

2) I realized that after about 2-3 years, it was the same crap over and over. Nothing original.

3) His hours at our local "monkey" got jacked around making it harder to listen to him.

H said...

WC, he fully admits where that comes from. He explains it from time to time that he was talking about Auburn's war cry or whatever, and then a couple callers called in and used their own war "something". And then it stuck. He's never claimed it as his own. And I still think the whole thing with Chris, I mean Jim Everett was awesome.

ToddPacker said...

more good points, wc.... beating an issue to death is rome's specialty... some callers are great, but the ones reading from a script and just regurgitating rome's takes suck... I like when he breaks down 911 calls... that’s funny stuff

ToddPacker said...

"But he did rip off Auburn with his "War" everything."

true, but he gives auburn credit

H said...

The best 911 call was the one where the operator asked the frantic mother of a misbehaving teen if she wanted the police to come over and shoot the daughter. That was priceless.

whocares said...

H, I know he didnt try to steal the "war" thing as his own, but it sounds a little hackey when he does it.

I set my league on ESPN and I like the controls and setting better then what Yahoo offers and having living scoring without paying for it is a plus.

yahoo fantasy sports is far superior to espn (live scoring or not).

ToddPacker said...

i agree with mills... even though i hate the cardinals

whocares said...

I listen to Farrel a pretty good bit as well. That dude is funny as hell when he starts freestyling.

I used to listen to Rome alot until he got cut off here about two years ago for some local dudes. Of course, they suck.

Mills said...

thanks for making the decision for us cmfost. i am sure we will be rocking yahoo now that you are on espn! :)

CMFost said...

Rome is the most overrated hack on sports radio. The only people that are worse are 2 shows here in Boston on WEEI. Dennis and Callahan and the BIG Show with the BIG O, there crap is getting very boring and it is pretty much the same everyday much like Rome.

Mills said...

better not draft pujols then TP.

CMFost said...

Mills - FU
I was just offering an educated thought on something but that is right you can not do that here.

Mills said...

SG? New Vegas Story? Haven't read it yet, but definitely has potential based on the title.

ToddPacker said...

Farrel's sports show is unlike any other... very funny... i think the freedom of satellite radio has something to do with that though...

Mills said...

it was a joke CM. I even gave you a freaking smile so as to not hurt your feelings. but at least you aren't sensative...

ToddPacker said...

"better not draft pujols then TP"

never... i would not have that cheater on my team... of course that might be why i have not won any fbbl leagues recently

H said...

CM, totally agree on the Big O. All they do is scream at each other or over the callers trying to make a point. I like Planet Mikey afterwards, because he actually makes intelligent arguments and engages with the callers, rather than letting them say one sentence and jumping down their throats. Only good thing about the Big Show is the Whiner Line. That shit can be hilarious.

Mills said...

H - he said he would not cheat on his team. He won't draft a cardinal, as he hates them.

ToddPacker said...

"How is Pujols a cheater?"

just kidding....he's so good that he must be cheating.... not very funny

temwr said...

and yes, i actually believe that the helmet sticker is important to cum fast. i think it made his/her day and put a smile on his/her face. and i think the loss of said helmet sticker would be devastating.

CMFost said...

H - I agree on the whinner line but even that is starting to get old. the show I listen to now on my drive home is Felger on 890. One he is not 90% red sox talk even when the Patriots are playing, two he gets good guests and three you don't have to listen to the hosts trying to talk over each other and the callers.

ToddPacker said...

take that helmet sticker away, tem

if you just sacked up, dealt with comments like they were nothing, and stopped ripping people's intellegence being inferior to DS (personally, Harvard Business School can suck an egg - much like Duke basketball this year -- OVERRATED), then people might begin to take your "takes" a little more seriously.

watching the Suns shit the bed the last 4 games, its pretty telling how valuable Nash is.

With him they are almost unstoppable.

Stan White holds a bunch of passing records at Auburn i guess. I'd never heard of him and he played there in the 90's so it's not like he's some old dude. He's also their color guy on the radio I think.

whocares said...

I wouldnt call Stan White a "big deal". He played QB at Auburn in the early 90's and now sells insurance and hosts a weekend radio show. He's your run of the mill local celeb still living off of his gridiron glory days.

Ben said...

but the anchorman reference, i think totally fits

whocares said...

Oh yeah, and he's the color guy for the football games.

whocares said...

And the Anchorman quote totally works for this guy. When I was in school at Auburn, we would always see Stan prowling the bar scene, picking up random college girls basically because he used to be the QB.

And I was in college about seven years after he left. So he was prally 30 or so still trolling the college bars. A poor man's TJW if you will.

I got respect for your buddy. That's tough to do.

I tried writing stand up material for a while. I gave up. It's a bitch.

"It shouldn't be in the world or in the United States."

Ummmmm... last time I checked, the US was part of the world.

Kinda redundant, no?

front page.. "Josh McRoberts (18 points) helped Duke improve to 6-6 in the ACC."

key word: "improve".

Interesting excerpt.

And I think the thing I learned the most from it is...

Jerry Sloan is a horse's ass!

Yahoo's NASCAR league is pure crap. I'll have to look to see if ESPN's is any better.

It looks like the ESPN/Yahoo debate is half and half. The only real difference that I can see is that ESPN doesn't distinguish between RP and SP. And I don't think it's that big of a deal.

Please Advise.

Off to shovel snow so I can get out of my driveway.

rev, thats exactly what i got out of it..

also that i have more respect for Kirilenko (can u have MORE respect for a guy that already has the 'free pass'?)

read the Amaechi excerpt. Interesting stuff. Kind of funny how he was being discrete, but not really.

I totally see Sloan as an ass, and always figured him to be a homophobe. Phil Jackson on the other hand always struck me as very gay friendly, I don't know why...maybe it was his love of Pippen.

Ben said...

re Kirilenko:

Doesn't that make it kind of obvious that outside of the US, there isn't as much fear and hatred of "gayness"

I'd have to think that distinguishing between Starters and Releivers is pretty big.

re: yahoo/espn. i have other yahoo leagues, it is easier to have all your leagues in one place.

i hate espn and won't do it if it is on there. not making a threat, jus sayin...

Former atheletes that it would not surprise me to find out they were gay:

Jerry Rice
Scottie Pippen

why do they keep calling the Medicine Woman "1 of the 2 elite quarterbacks in this draft"?

please advise.

Ben said...

mills-
you sold me, ESPN is the way to go.

Ben said...

YPP-

Quinn and Jamarcus Russel are the 2 elite guys

I'm of the belief that places like Europe laugh at the US because we make a big deal out of things that shouldn't be a big deal.

*cue Zeke with the "love it or leave it" comment.

i thought AK47 looked like a good dude too.

And yes...Sloan came off as a horse's ass.

Though, I wondered if he was down on Amechi just because he was 1) gay or 2) not good *cuz i don't remember Amechi being good).

So i went and looked at Amechi's stats. He average 8-10 pts per game, and a little over 3 boards in 20 mins a game before he signed with the Jazz. Then his minutes and production went down.

It wasn't like he was a stud and jerry just sat him.

I think a lot of it had to do with Amechi not fitting in the system (and Amechi alludes to the fact he struggled filling Malone's role as they are different players). I think that was the biggest problem for Sloan re: Amechi.

Heck, Zeke throws slurs all over the place on here, that doesn't mean I think he is a homophob.

love it or leave it works on so many levels for this conversation.
