Recap

A slow sports weekend.

I rocked the Suns on Friday and Sunday, both L's. Without MV3 they are a different team. I know there are a ton of interpretations of what a MVP is, but without Nash the Suns suck; That in and of itself gives Nash a checkmark in the MVP race to me.

Sugar Shane vs Collazo Sat night. Not a bad fight. Impressive that Sugar Shane can bounce around weight classes like that and still be dominant. Although he's getting up there so it will be interesting to see what's up next for him. He's fought a ton of big names in his last 10 or so bouts. If Oscar wins in May I don't think they'd fight again as they are in biz-ness together.

I also watched the Bud Shootout. Not a good start for #24. It was good to have some NASCAR back on. Eat it all non-NASCAR fans. The update will always have a NASCAR recap.

And that Brees injury looked pretty gruesome. Luckily its on his non-throwing arm.

Sunday I rocked the PBA in the morning. I've been watching that lately. Can't say I'm a big bowling fan nor do I bowl regularly but its a good hour and a half or two hour time waster. Didn't watch much of the two Niba games on ABC.

Also on Sunday I watched some of the Grammy's. My girl loves that red carpet garbage but I can't watch more than 5 mins of that nonsense. As a rule I don't like celeb award shows as if we needed another outlet to celebrate them. I guess my 8 bucks for a show or 15 for a CD isn't enough. At least the Grammy's had a ton of performances which makes it more palatable. And Shakira with them hips. Those is baby making hips....

That's all I got.

For those who live in a sheltered world, who ain't bringing much, I'll leave you with this:

Son, they shook...
'cause ain't no such things
as halfway crooks
scared to death, scared to look
they shook
'cause ain't no such things as halfway crooks
scared to death, scared to look
livin' the live that of diamonds and guns
there's numerous ways you can choose to earn funds...earn
funds
some of 'em get shot, locked down and turn
nuns
cowardly hearts end straight up shook ones...
shook ones

he ain't a crook son, he's just a shook
one...shook one

Hallelujah Holla Back.

and the Dixie Chicks? WTF. I can honestly say before tonight didn't know they had a new album out.

ebntx said...

im with you on those damn dixie chicks. cant the chili peppers get any more love than rock album? that is still good for them. scarlett had the puppies kind of locked up tonight. she needs to let them loose and come out to play.

ebntx said...

btw, no first comments z for you.

Isiah Thomas said...

blocked on the z, sloppy to not finish it off

Isiah Thomas said...

who votes on this shit? Does public opinion/record sales impact anything?

and aren't there cuntry music awards for groups like the Dixie Chicks, etc?

Pretty sure there aren't rock or rap awards at the Cuntry Music awards.

And the fat Dixie Chick acted like the awards were a validation of her running her mouth a few years ago.

Hey, am I the only one here who'd love to see a seperate section for bitchslap fights? That way the rest of us could ignore them if we wanted. It's tough catching up on 900+ comments when probably 25% of them are 2 regulars going after each other.

Hell, Zeke would need his own section, broken into various subsections, for all his pissing contests.

I swear, sometimes you guys just need to whip them out and see whose is bigger and get it over with.

I'm not doing any work this morning.

Isiah Thomas said...

keep an eye on this Nash injury.....something ain't right.

Ben said...

the lack of nash makes that team not so great, but losing to the bulls isn't an embarrasment.

Isiah Thomas said...

I get a section with subsections? I'll take that. Zeke Hall of Shame.

Isiah Thomas said...

the bulls were on the last game of a 7 game road trip.

Suns are in shambles right now without Nash, Diaw and Thomas.

ToddPacker said...

nice post zeke...

NASCAR... i can't get into it... i know there is more to it, but i can't get into watching guys go in circles for 3 hours

Grammys... didn't watch... really why would you...

brees injury... soon they will be playing 2 hand touch in the Pro-Bowl

temwr said...

THe grammys are stupid. Dixie Chicks win 5 grammys??

Huge WTF.

Ben said...

At least brees injury isn't at bad as Robert Edwards who got hurt in a beach football game, and never played again.

temwr said...

Please tell me that the Dixie Chicks did not win country album of the year.

They don't play country anymore. They don't get any air time on country stations. Country fans all hate them.

If they won a grammy for anything country I will have to go kill some grammy voters.

temwr said...

Awesome pic on cnn.com front page of some kid who is 10 or so with a machine gun bigger than him.

The Rev said...

If I remember correctly, Carrie underwood took the actual country Grammy.

I thought it was gonna be the Mary J Blige show for a while, but the Chicks stole the thunder.

The Rev said...

I stand corrected.

The Chicks did win country album.

Though Carrie did pick up a grammy in one of those country categories.

Ben said...

I think the dixie chicks only win because it's a big "fuck you" to the republicans and country fans that hate them. Grammy voters love doing stuff like that.

whocares said...

That "Im not ready to make nice" song is fucking horrible. Not for it's political viewpoint, but really it's just a shitty song.

whocares said...

And I think Underwood won for Country Newcomer of the year, or something like that.

The Rev said...

Speaking of the Grammys, for a long time I wondered what happened to a favorite artist of mine, Jonny Lang, who seemed to disappear from the scene after having a couple hits.

He won a Grammy last night for best rock gospel album.

Did I miss something?

The Rev said...

Underwood got new artist of the year, and country song of the year.

Ben said...

Just goes to show, the grammys love those american idol winners.

Isiah Thomas said...

"Jonny Lang" ?

*blank stare*

The Rev said...

I thought he was more well known.

He had a hit in the late 90's called Lie To Me. You might know it if you heard it.

Ben said...

Is Johnny Lang, KD Lang's man persona?

Isiah Thomas said...

But would it give me Lang-Chills?

Mills said...

From SG: "Anyway, Mary J. Blige wins for "The Breakthrough" and thanks Jesus Christ AND God. Let's hope they're watching together."

Great line.

Isiah Thomas said...

I like SG Diaries, let's hope this one doesn't disappoint.

Tem - running diar of the running diary?

And he can but out this article about the Grammy's that fast but takes a week to bust out a SB column?

The Rev said...

It's Monday morning, and SG already has a good line?

Wow! That's early for him.

Mills said...

Another good one:

"As Quentin Tarantino and Tony Bennett announce the nominees for "Record of the Year," we see a shot of a smiling Paris Hilton in the crowd. Good God, can that girl do anything to end her own career? Sex tapes, racial slurs, drugs, hateful personality, no discernable talents at all ... and she's still chugging along. Are we sure she's not Satan? Let's chop her head off and see if it grows back."

Seriously though. Paris is unstoppable. And not just in a FH kind of way. For real.

Isiah Thomas said...

WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA....WHOA.

A "plowing" reference from the SG.

WTF Bill? HIGHEST LEVEL WTF.

Come on Bill - give Tem at least a shout-out.

Ben said...

"and thanks to my good friend Temwr, for bringing the term plowing back into the sports vernacular"

How SG should have credited tem

Ben said...

O/U on how many workdays SG keeps this running "blog" going without missing a day?

Mills said...

ben --

the line should be 3 working days, starting from friday.

so through tues.

i will take the under.

The Rev said...

From SG... "Justin Timberlake is performing right now, although he made the tragic decision not to sing "D*** in a Box." Hey, it's OK to think he's talented, right? Two hit albums AND he's one of the best SNL hosts ever AND he sold at the highest point possible on Britney's stock AND he wrote the best revenge song ever (the "Cry Me A River" song that pretty much murdered Britney's soul) AND he's plowing through every hot female in Hollywood right now. He's a hero, I say."

We need an LOV ruling on this.

Justin Timberlake... hero to all men? I don't know.

But nice use of the term plowing. Hi Bill!

Isiah Thomas said...

eventually SG will throw out a token 1 paragraph blog "column" about how he's busy, can't keep up, etc. That is the begining of the end.

Isiah Thomas said...

Mandy Moore - looked horrendous last night. She looked like Doris the lunch lady in that dress. I've got a jones for her but after last night I'm not sure.

I watched way too much of that show last night.

Mills said...

jt is pullin some major a. he has a decent jump shot for a musician. i don't know - i bet lots of dudes would trade places with him...

Isiah Thomas said...

I'm not sure about hero but I'd smell his fingers after a night out.

Ben said...

I don't know if he's a hero to me, but you gotta give JT his props. Although his music sucks.

ebntx said...

if sg starts using the "unspeakable things" line, i think tem has a legitimate case against him.

Ben said...

I like to use JT lines as a joke. Like when i crashed pretty hard skiing the other day I told one of the kids who skiied up behind me "that's not how to bring sexy back"

The Rev said...

Dudes trading places with him, of course. I think 99% of men would trade places with him.

But even though I don't mind his current music, I can't get over that boy band era of his.

ToddPacker said...

give credit to Tem, bill.
You hack

ToddPacker said...

3 words....boy band afro

Mills said...

"that's not how to bring sexy back"

nice.

Mills said...

your forgot -- boy band cornrows...

ebntx said...

speaking of jt. do u think the others from the boy band hate him now?

ebntx said...

maybe not the gay one

Mills said...

also -- to get my take on last nights topic re: beatles.

beatles were the best band that ever lived. period.

also -- somebody said they had only 2 writers (john and paul). george harrison wrote great songs as well. i believe one of his songs is the most covered song of all-time. somebody do some research and back me up.

Ben said...

while he was in the boy band stage though, he was plowing britney and had already plowed christina

ToddPacker said...

i do like the "barry gibb talk show" deal he does on SNL... that's funny

Mills said...

After the band's breakup it was Harrison who achieved the first #1 single (My Sweet Lord) and #1 album (All Things Must Pass) by any ex-Beatle. - Wiki.

3 hall of famers out of 4. salty.

Isiah Thomas said...

I haven't watched SNL, well forever.

ToddPacker said...

"I haven't watched SNL, well forever."

i hear ya zeke... it's good tivo'd. you can knock out a 90 minute episode in like 20 minutes.... ffwd button gets a work out

The Rev said...

And like SG said, he sold Britney off when her stock was highest, then got to make a video mocking her afterward.

Having the juice to plow one of the hottest celebrities at the time, then make a major music video after the fact to ridicule her, then go on to get better women after the fact? OK, for that alone, I might give JT major props for being a genius.

Mills said...

The album included "Something" and "Here Comes the Sun", probably Harrison's two best-known Beatles songs. "Something" is considered to be one of his best works and was even covered by Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra, who famously deemed it "the greatest love song of the last 50 years." (However, Sinatra credited the song as "(his) favorite Lennon/McCartney composition", rather than Harrison when making the compliment; the joke being that Lennon/McCartney did not write the song at all).

Ben said...

The problem with SNL is the skits are about 4 minutes too long. The first minute or 2 are decent jokes, then it gets weak, and there's no big finish to the skit.

Mills said...

"Harrison was only 26 years old at the time of the Beatles' last recording session on 4 January 1970 (Lennon, who had left the group the previous September, did not attend the session)."

Sorry to be "that guy." -- but this stuff is crazy. Harrison was 26 when they broke up? That is crazy young! It makes me feel like I missed my prime.

The Rev said...

That's not uncommon for SNL. Some of their greatest skits of all time had weak finishes.

Even More Cowbell didn't finish all that strong. But the first minutes of it were an all-time classic.

Isiah Thomas said...

dvr'ing SNL...not a bad idea...

didn't Britney dump Timberlake (refuse to call him JT)? Britney was dogging the guy out right?

As for the Beatles convo I'm not into music enough to know who's best or care. Although I remember smoking weed for the first time while watching Yellow Submarine. THE BLUE MEANIES!

Isiah Thomas said...

Rut Ro Rev

Ben said...

I can't remember who dumped who, but i'm pretty sure britney was cheating on timberlake, and that's how the whole thing ended.

Mills said...

i think ben is right. he is our designated celebrity informant.

britney is fugly anymore. awful.

Mills said...

i honestly would not even want to see her playboy spread.

ebntx said...

i was surprised to see a sg article today. i figured he would have offed himself after that, what was it 100th straight celtics loss?

Mills said...

i would still look, but i wouldn't want to...

Mills said...

eb -- don't you know he is rooting against the C's? He is in a jovial mood.

Dikembe Meiztombo said...

Just catching up...

I said quite a while ago that Timberlake is one of my personal heros.

The Rev said...

I don't remember who dumped who there.

But I think we can agree JT got Britney's best time period. And he wound up being much better off without her.

The Rev said...

Yeah, Andy Reid is taking a month leave of absence.

Can't say I am surprised.

Ben said...

anybody see Sean Taylor's hit on Brian Moorman in the pro-bowl. Pretty good hit, even though it's on the punter.

Isiah Thomas said...

Timberlake got the best of her no doubt.

Although if they were still together would she have regressed back to her trailer park roots?

Isiah Thomas said...

The Grim Reaper laid that dood out fo sho.

The Rev said...

"Although if they were still together would she have regressed back to her trailer park roots?"

Possibly not the way she has, but she would have regressed in a different way.

Her regression was destiny I believe.

Ben said...

Yeah it wasn't until after they broke up that she started drinking and smoking excessively, and being a party girl.

He was probably a good influence on her and kept her out of trouble.

Isiah Thomas said...

yeah once the clock struck midnight britney's life came completely apart at the seams.

your paternal parent said...

"killers - when you were young" was nominated for best rock song (lost to the chili's).

ok this is a freakin reach. the killer's song is decent, but is very weak. one of their weaker moments, fo sho. i actually couldnt believe that song was the first single, cause it was so generic and seemed like they wrote it in 5 minutes... but this is what "they" pick.

but picking apart the grammys is about as useful as trying to argue about govt and i realize this.

Isiah Thomas said...

further to Ben's comment...

Timberlake era = no back door entry for Britney

Post Timberlake/K-Fed/Fed-Ex era - back door entry accepted and encouraged.

Just guessing.

your paternal parent said...

ben, "the hit".

i applaud the punter for hopping right up and giving him a pat immediately after.

but he got laid T.F. out...

The Rev said...

No question K-Fed speeded up her regression.

With JT, her regression would have come much later, but it would have come.

You just can't hold back the trailer trash in some people.

your paternal parent said...

rev, have u landed a copy of peter frampton covering Black Hole Sun? wtf1.

Isiah Thomas said...

the best part is that she hasn't reached rock bottom yet....

The Rev said...

Haven't heard the Frampton cover.

Let me go research it.

Isiah Thomas said...

let's hope she makes a "Showgirls" type movie in attempt to get her career back on track.

your paternal parent said...

and apparently it's instrumental. hmm.

The Rev said...

It's actually an instrumental version of BHS, and it features Matt Cameron and Mike McCready.

Actually, that makes it more feasible and less of a WTF to me.

Ben said...

Gotta give credit to Moorman, he laid there for a second but then hopped right up.

He ran half way across the field to congratulate Sean Taylor, but then again, he may have not have remembered which sideline he was supposed to be on.

The Rev said...

Britney in a Showgirls type movie is a problem to me.

I mean, Jessie from Saved by the Bell was perfect because she was at a peak level of hotness at the time. Britney would not be at that peak level.

Then again, I guess Britney at 80% is still pretty good. Kinda like MJ with the Wizards. You knew he wasn't winning any titles there, but he was still better than most of the players on the floor.

The Rev said...

I heard a snipet of the BHS cover. It's all guitar solo.

Not too bad.

Isiah Thomas said...

hopefully her handlers would clean her up and get her back to full fledged hotness before the movie.

I'd say she still has one more 2-5 year run/rebirth of hotness before she is back in a double wide.

your paternal parent said...

wasnt she supposedly on the re-track to hotness a little while back? like when she said she would clean up her act, then she went on Letterman..

we've all been let down by the beav.

you tease.

The Rev said...

But Britney has to start training like Rocky in Rocky III to get her eye of the tiger back for that run. And it better start soon.

Ben said...

we can always hope for her little sister to try and live up to the hotness? can't we? is that wrong?

Isiah Thomas said...

its because she hasn't hit rock bottom yet. Once that happens the reboud will occur.

She has to go through the drunken/high 8 day bender that culminates with her banging mini-me to hit rock bottom.

She's just not there yet, give her time.

The Rev said...

She definitely showed a flash of brilliance on the Letterman appearance.

Again, like MJ used to occasionally hit a shot with the Wizards that reminded you he was still MJ. But in the end, he wasn't getting them through the playoffs on a regular basis.

The Rev said...

Banging Mini-Me?

I almost spit my coffee out on that one.

I have this picture in my head, and it is disturbing. I need to make it go away.

The Rev said...

Britney: "Oh baby, hit me one more time!"

Mini-Me: "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"

your paternal parent said...

zeke, wassup with your pic. that needs to come through when u post, but we're being let down.

please advise.

your paternal parent said...

well she might bang mini-me for his piano/singing/rappping skills as shown in that one austin powers.

hell, it worked for k-fed.

The Rev said...

Britney's sis...

She won't be 16 until April, so I don't think you're allowed to hope for anything yet.

But, I would classify that as TUP.

Ben said...

I think i'm turning into a dirty old man.

your paternal parent said...

turning = turned

Isiah Thomas said...

as long as mini-me hits it while he's on his mini-bike/scooter that's alright by me. And then raises the roof with those little sausage-like arms in the middle of it.

Isiah Thomas said...

and I don't know wtf is wrong with my pic, its posted on my blog, in my profile but won't show up here....

Dikembe Meiztombo said...

This is a pretty lenghty stretch without actual sports discussion. I'm not entirely sure why I'm pointing that out.

Maybe because I just like to hear myself talk.

mills,

Just catching up after lunch, but it was me who said that Lennon/McCartney was the best songwriting duo of all time. I didnt say that the other two werent song writers, but they arent even close to Paul/John. Yes, Harrison had some later success but the majority of the Beatles hit songs were written by Lennon and McCartney.

your paternal parent said...

im with WC, lennon/Mc was by far the best songwriting duo. truth.

look at their catalog and you cant really compare...

Just for the record, I know they did alot for the future of music supposedly but for the most part I HATE THE BEATLES. Their first few albums were ok but from there it was all down hill in my book. I have nothing to back this up other than my personal musical tastes but thats all I need. In my mind the best things we got from the Beatles were the Jay Z Grey album and the Beastles mash ups. The cyber nazi's had the tracks pulled down I guess but not before I ripped them. Quality junk if you can find it.

ok, I finally caught up to the almost 1k comments from the last post and all of these. couple things...

Maurice Jones-Drew was raised by his grandfather who passed away his senior year of college. He added his Grandfather's last name to his as a show of respect for the man who sacrificed so much to raise him.

@ Kod, I totally agree with you that the supression of civil rights post 9/11 has gone too far. I also hear the other side of the argument, but detaining all of those people with out due process at gitmo is simply not right and needs to be correct ASAP.

about the grammy awards, they are voted on by about 11,000 people who work in the music industry in different capacities. The votes are tallied by an independent accounting firm. (they gave that info at the very end of the show).

in regards to JT, I am not a big fan of his music, though I do have to recognize his talent. And I would trade places with him in a second. He gets a lot of hot a$$.

In regards to Fergie, totally what my crew and I refer to as a "lighting girl", which means she looks good in certain lights and horrible in others.

Rev, are you a DJ?

I realize probably most if not all artists i dig would credit the Beatles on their list of influences but I just don't dig them. Like cows for instance. Cows eat grass and like grass. I eat cows and like burgers and steaks and meatballs but I'm not eating straight up grass. If Jurassic 5 is influenced by the Beatles I'll dig J-5 but I'm not eating the grass if that makes sense.

wow H -- bringing home friday's issues. good research yo.

Beatles were one of the most influential bands ever, whether you like them or hate them. They set the groundwork for a lot of music today, moreso than most people realize. "Yesterday" is the single most covered song in recorded music history, or at least it was as of a couple years ago. It may have changed. If someone wants to do that research, that'd be cool.

solid deep thinking there mv. wrong, but solid.

i am curious as to what people think of DMB on here?

we seem to have a lot of rap people here. if it isn't outkast (rosa parks what?) or eminem then i am probably not hip to it.

I personally love DMB, but am not into the newer stuff they have been putting out in the last couple of years. But their overall longevity and body of work is A+ material.

ben folds? anyone? bueller?
