Everything else but...

This will be a Super Bowl free posting.

You got my thoughts last week. You will get more thoughts here in the next two days I am sure. And I am very sure ElPadrino will go into greater depth Friday.

I'll concentrate on news outside the Super Bowl. No, there ain't much.

- Barry Bonds can't even sign a new contract in baseball without a spectacle.

You know what? There's this little part of me that wants Bonds to break the record. I hate Barry Bonds. I despise him. Yet... having to acknowledge him as the all-time home run leader would serve baseball right for allowing the crap that has gone on to go on.

I feel like I have to take a shower for even thinking that.

- Apparently, Donovan McNabb will have a press conference today in Miami sponsored by Chunky Soup.

I expect him to say a whole lotta nothing. I guess we shall see.

However, he had a press conference like this a few years ago sponsored by Chunky Soup at the Super Bowl and talked about how the Eagles needed weapons. Shortly after that, they signed TO.

Oh crap!

- Just caught this item on the WWL...

" Owner Wayne Huizenga said Tuesday that he will not attempt to block the potential return of Ricky Williams to the Miami Dolphins in 2007, but emphasized the decision on the comeback by the erstwhile running back will rest with his football officials. "

Ummm... Ricky Williams was thinking of coming back? Who knew?

And if he does, what round do you think some desperate soul will take a chance on him in fantasy football?

That's all I got. Really, that's it. Slow day.

thejugwhite said...

We need a Meiz poop chart on the LOG page.

Beth82678 said...

Jug at 50% and me at 25% of the comments - this will never happen again.

thejugwhite said...

This is like early season batting averages.

whocares said...

There is absolutely nothing worthwhile to talk about today.

whocares said...

I wish I could play steroid pong at work. I think I can hit level 9 with some hard work and a few lucky breaks.

The Rev said...

I hear that. Slow day news wise.

Where the hell is Zeke?

whocares said...

Meiz, if you shit that much, how is it possible that you weigh more than 115 lbs.?

whocares said...

I think I'm heading home for lunch today. Got the White Rapper Show on TiVo and need to catch up on my lunch break. Good times.

thejugwhite said...

I think the poop chart needs to happen.

Tyler said...

The caption underneath the Berman pic made me spit out my coffee.

thejugwhite said...

I liked the quest to find the Manning face.

Tyler said...

The Manning Face was a nice one too. I gotta say, that was probably his best work in the last four months. But that's not saying a whole lot.

Tyler said...

Did anyone see the end of the third quarter of the Knicks/Lakers game last night? Starbury got a shot off before time ran out and he got blocked, but it went in. Not tipped, but blocked. And it was a three. They replayed it like four times and I still don't know how that happened. Crazy.

rev that package came in
i salvaged the butterscotch things and the choclate ones but the other thing was turned into tar

it's amazing what these things are made of

i literally had to wash my hands twice of this tar-like substance

real cool
thanks

I do the auction league FF stuff.

$500 fake money cap.

I'd pay about $3 for Ricky.

The Rev said...

Unfreakinbelievable!

I shipped a couple of small pies and wrapped them up. I didn't think it would take over a month to get there. The pies are what became tar I'm sure.

Luckily the butterscotch and chocolate are better wrapped. So no harm done.

And screw you Meiz. Tastykakes are awesome.

The Rev said...

Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed them. I'm amazed they found their way to Jersey City.

What caused the delay, I wonder? They were priority mailed. I thought that would be reliable.

temwr said...

NOISB = nation of islam sports blog

temwr said...

And you couldn't do it?

temwr said...

The Penguins goalie is amazingly overrated. I think he sucks. Everyone else thinks he will be real good some day and is good now.

They are probably right, but fuck them and fuck AXE.

thejaywhite said...

pens goalie..ur talking about MAF?

he will be awsome....he was good his first rookie year..considering the team was all offense..then thye didnt want to pay him fulltime pro money or him to become a FA early so they put him on the farm..hes gonna be real good..

as for not making the successful booze trip...i was trashed..no top on the cup..and to be honest i didnt try hard..i was more concerned about making it to the persons house before the cab got ther..cause it was already midnight

maybe instead of a big sign in front of your house that says "it's a boy" or "it's a girl", you can put out a sign that says "it's high def"

temwr said...

I drive an Elantra for that reason.

JFreak said...

high def is so worth it mv.

Welcome to the club.

temwr said...

I know overrated folks. MAF is one, he let this crap get to his head. Of course he is only 12 or something so that is to be expected.

temwr said...

More SG out there. I don't know if I can keep pace with him.

This one is about radio shows or something.

Dikembe Meiztombo said...

I gots to get the HD Box by March.

Martin VanNostrand said...

"it's high def"

awesome tp, that's marketing genius! You need to get on the horn to Best Buy with that idea. I'm picturing commercials with a cautious drive home as if from the hospital and a crowd of family/neighbors waiting to welcome the new addition. The dad looking in the rearview mirror and saying "we've got your room all ready for you big guy" and junk like that. That's Gold I tell you, gold!

whocares said...

HDTV is my next big purchase.

I'm tired of watching the 1996 shitbox.

Martin VanNostrand said...

no doubt wc, with your pimp cable hook up you need this. Even regular analog has looked 100 times better on this television.

The Rev said...

TP...

I missed the Flyers game last night. I had some night time meetings to take care of. But I did see that it was 3-3 at one point.

Hatcher missing the open net does not shock me even a little. That guy is a waste.

Talking smack against the Flyers doesn't do much. I got nothing to fight back. It's the worst I've ever seen them. I haven't been watching much at all.

Between the Sixers and Flyers, Philly sports is very boring right now.

The Rev said...

I'm in the market for HDTV now.

We agreed on a new house last night. Now, I gotta furnish something in the basement.

I'm thinking not too big. A 28 inch will make me happy.

Just something I can see from my basement bar which I plan on getting.

The Rev said...

OK, maybe more like a 32 inch.

temwr said...

I am getting the finger wag on my kegerator now.

The original OK banked on my laziness, she thought I'd never go through with it. That shit backfired on her. I am holding her to the deal.

El Padrino said...

Dikembe Meiztombo said...

whocares said...

Yeah MV, I'm trying to work something out with the old lady. She's telling me there's no room for one where the current TV is so she's saying we need a new house before making that purchase.

I told her we could put the damn thing anywhere, but she didnt agree.

whocares said...

I almost had her sold on a smaller one in Best Buy the other day but she was like, if we buy one we may as well go big.

I couldnt agree more.

ToddPacker said...

32", rev....c'mon you gotta get into the 40s at least...

i like the commercial idea, mv

temwr said...

Excellent commercial idea. It is gold.

wc has a keeper there. Free cable hook up, wants the big TV. The girl loves the big TV. She gets pissed when she has to watch What About Brian on the small TV. That stupid show does not go on the big TV.

Dikembe Meiztombo said...

We're not all branch managers, Packer.

El Padrino said...

it's vagina!

Tyler said...

Hollinger just wrote an article on the Top 30 Player Without A Ring. I'm sure the first ten paragraphs will be about the mathmatic formula that he came up with and it will instantly turn my brain into mush trying to read it.

Tyler said...

Starting off nicely with Karl Malone and Barkley...

El Padrino said...

Tyler said...

I dunno, I think that the guys that are out the game should be ranked higher than some of the guys he listed that are still in it. KG's still only 31. And he only went deep into the playoffs once and doesn't have a big rival. Dominique Wilkins should be higher because he kept running into the Celtics and then got traded to the Clippers. That's like kicking a guy when he's down.

ToddPacker said...

didn't see the list, but Ewing has to be in the top 30

Tyler said...

Ewing's sixth. But KG's #2. Like I said, Garnett's still 31 and only had one deep playoff run. Ewing was in game sevens against the Bulls and in a close game seven in the finals against Houston. It doesn't get tighter than that.

Tyler said...

Here's the list. I think it's insider only.

Tyler said...

Top Ten are:
Karl Malone
Charles Barkley
Kevin Garnett
Elgin Baylor
John Stockton
Patrick Ewing
Allen Iverson
Steve Nash
George Gervin
Dominique Wilkins

Tyler said...

He brings up the reason I think Baylor should be higher: he retired and then the Lakers immediately went on their record 33 game winning streak and won a title. He also then became the GM for the Clippers shortly thereafter. Talk about a fall from grace.

Tyler said...

My first two Z's. Nice.

Tyler said...

RE: Cheesesteaks, Wiz sounds totally wrong, but I tried it the first time I had one and liked it.

Tyler said...

My bad KG's #3. Still too high.

temwr said...

A top notch car over house/electronics/etc is crazy crazy talk.

AXE is not getting the better of me. That is impossible.

I will have that kegerator. To do this I will couple it with knocking down the pointless wall between the kitchen and the living room. The girl wants this done to create more open space. She said we could put a breakfast bar on the one side. Well, a bar needs a keg. End of debate. I win. Spoils to the victor.

El Padrino said...

This same thinking has bitten my wife once or twice.

Martin VanNostrand said...

Martin VanNostrand said...

RE: Hollingers list

I don't think anyone still playing should be on there. As long as you are in the league you still have a chance no matter how remote.

Tyler said...

Kevin Johnson is #23 and Reggie Miller is #30. They should both be higher than Nash and A.I. They both went to the finals but were blocked for years by dominant teams in respective conferences (Lakers and the Bulls). And, there's really nothing those two can do about it because they're retired. Nash and A.I. are still playing. Suns could go to the finals this year.

El Padrino said...

tyler how do you think Oakley felt about being traded for (knicks acquired him from bulls for cartwright) when the bulls went on the 3 peat march and thru his knicks 2 out of 3 times.

that must have sucked.
i wonder if mj let him touch the ring. they hang out alot

El Padrino said...

and fuycking cartwright, the shit he stepped must have been a pile a mile high

Tyler said...

Xavier McDaniel was on that '92 team. Loved the X-Man.

El Padrino said...

i agree martin

El Padrino said...

xman was great too
i loved them all

cept for charles "bill buckner" smith

Martin VanNostrand said...

The X-man! I was hyped when the Celtics got him. Actually I would trade a couple of the current front court players for him right now no matter what condition he's in.

Tyler said...

I always wondered about Oakley, especially since him and MJ were tight when the trade went down, and they're still tight now. He played with Jordan on the Wiz at the end of both of their careers too. I guess the Bulls thought it was a better fit for them, I don't think Oakley could guard centers and they had a gaping hole at that position. And they had just drafted Ho Grant. But Oakley at that point in his career was a double-double, in the mid teens in both points and rebounds, I would have kept him, you never know what a rookie is going to develop into. Still gotta be rough to deal with not getting a ring and one of your best friends knocking you out each year and then going on to get rings.

Martin VanNostrand said...

He had a shoe deal with some lesser known company didn't he?

Martin VanNostrand said...

MacGregor maybe?

The Rev said...

I'm late on the cheesesteak question. So sorry.

Pat's over Geno's any day of the week. Geno's is an embarassment to the cheesesteak business in Philadelphia. I've been going to Pat's ever since I was a kid and mom used to take me there.

Whiz ain't too bad. I like whiz on the steak.

Tony Luke's is better than both because not only can you get a kick ass cheesesteak, but the other sandwiches there are just as good. Pat's and Geno's are both one trick ponies. Don't go to either one and ask for anything but a cheesesteak. But at Tony Luke's, you can get an awesome meatball grinder or a chicken parm sandwich.

Martin VanNostrand said...

Per Wiki it was British Knights.

Tyler said...

I still maintain that Pippen fouded Smith at least five consecutive times on that botched layup underneath the basket that lost them that game. Smith was on the Clippers before he came to the Knicks so I remember watching him a lot. He put up nice numbers for the Clips.

El Padrino said...

yea mvn
the X's were some shitty kicks
but still got love for him

he was on pros vs joes grabbin boards

Tyler said...

*fouled

Tyler said...

I might be in the Philly area in May and will try Tony Luke's. Probably go meatball.

And X was on Pros vs. Joes and I missed it? Was it the first season?

Martin VanNostrand said...

Miller, King and Pistol need to be alot higher on that list. I like how he has the inset window with Top 10 players under 30 w/o a ring. WTH? Why even make that list.

Martin VanNostrand said...

they need a tag at the bottom of the article

~ wait for Friday when John gives us his list of the best all-time 3rd quarter rebounders.

El Padrino said...

i caught it the other day
he was on there with clyde the glide, kevin greene, goldberg, rocker, darren daulton and misty "junk in the trunk" may

The Rev said...

You won't be disappointed Tyler.

Let me know. I can hook you up with more recommendations.

Tyler said...

How's Jim's Steaks? That place looks weird but always has a line out the door.

temwr said...

Definitely not a load bearing wall.

We have a little ranch and the only load bearing walls are the 4 outer ones. The inner ones are pointless.

The Rev said...

I like Jim's Steaks. You can't go wrong there.

I'd go to Jim's over Geno's. But I'd go to Pat's over Jim's.

El Padrino said...

funny mvn

The Rev said...

Barkley was better than Mailman.

I'll go to my grave saying that.

Dikembe Meiztombo said...

Your hallway walls are load bearing.

Tyler said...

"best all-time 3rd quarter rebounders"

That killed me.

Like most people here, I think Hollinger is a tool and he's way off but this list is REALLY way off. Has anyone checked out his rankings? When the first came out he had Rapters #8. What? And the explaination page for his rankings is three scroller that will make your brain melt out of your ears if you try and read it.

Dikembe Meiztombo said...

Charles was definitely better.

The Rev said...

Jim's also has a better location. You can't go wrong with being right on South St. All the drunks stumble right out of the bars and get in line.

El Padrino said...

so rev dont like t.luke's ?

Tyler said...

Schilling - he still got gas in the tank or is that a trainwreck waiting to happen? He says he doesn't want a raise, just an extra year. He's making $13 mill right now.

The Rev said...

ElP...

read my comment a few back. I freakin love T Luke's.

The Rev said...

My rankings are as such...

1. Tony Luke's
2. Pat's
3. Jim's
4. Geno's

Tyler said...

To recap, I think the Rev's rankings were:
Pat's
Jim's
Geno's

Tony Luke if you're in the mood for something other than a cheesesteak.

But I think we might need the Rev to explain his ranking system with a complex mathmatical equation.

temwr said...

Hmm, I don't think even they are, but they might be. Maybe I will test that theory by knocking one down. I still think we basically just have a box with a roof on it and the outer walls are the only ones that support the roof.

In any case the wall I would be taking out definitely isn't.

El Padrino said...

good job rev

tony luke's cheessteak with broclli rabe blows every other cheesteak away

The Rev said...

"There are four players in NBA history that have compiled 20,000 points, 10,000 rebounds and 4,000 assists: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain, Karl Malone and Charles Barkley." -From NBA.com

The thing that sets Barkley apart was that he was listed at 6'6", but no one believes he was actually taller than 6'4".

You're not supposed to get 11.7 rebounds per game when you're 6'4".

Martin VanNostrand said...

When you think rebounding, in recent years, the names Barkley, Rodman and Wallace come to mind. Well not when it's the 3rd quarter of a game. This twelve minute universe is owned by names like Jack Sikma, Mark Eaton, and Sam Bouie.

The Rev said...

No, I would rank Tony Luke's cheesesteak right with Pat's. But they do get a higher ranking based on their other selections which you can't even get at Pat's.

One downside to Tony Luke's... they're not open all night. So if you want a 2 am cheesesteak, you don't go there.

I'd rank Geno's lower if I could, but I only ranked 4 places. Words can't express my disdain for them.

The Rev said...

ElP... did you ever try Tony Luke's Manhattan shop? I wonder if they are just as good.

The Rev said...

One clarification...

Pat's actually has other sandwiches on their menu. But don't ask them to make them. They make a shitload of cheesesteaks and slap them together in front of your eyes. No one ever orders anything but a cheesesteak. If you do order something like a hot dog (like I did once for kicks), you will have to wait 15 minutes while they go in back and get it, then grill it. And it will suck too. But if you order a cheesesteak, it's ready in 10 seconds right off the grill.

temwr said...

I'm hungry now.

The Rev said...

Cheesesteak Z...

that's a beautiful thing!

El Padrino said...

yes, it was good but not as good as the philly shop
still the best cheessteak in nyc though

although this place in brooklyn called the philly cheessteak factory is quite a tasty treat and L&B makes a mean one too, but still Luke's is King

The Rev said...

Tem finger wagged my cheesesteak Z.

Tyler said...

I see, Tony Luke's #1. Interesting.

Mark Eaton. If you're 7'4"+ you should be doing what he did and averaging 3.50 block per game for your career. Yao's average is 1.8bpg. Someone needs to remind him that he's 7-freakin-6 and to go block some shots.

Shocking developments in the office today. They're painting someone's office and everyone is high off the fumes. My boss' boss flies in from Phoenix and his rental car for this week is a convertible Mazda Miata. I have already given him a bunch of crap for that one.

The Rev said...

Getting a cheesesteak in NYC is like getting a bagel in Philly.

You can get a good one, but it will never compare.

Tyler said...

We have South Street out here. It's ok, but nothing even remotely close to the real thing. They do have a booth at Dodger Stadium, which is nice, but I always go with a Dodger Dog when I'm there. South Street's commercials are horrible too. They prominently feature Ben Franklin eating a cheesesteak. Horrible.

All this cheesesteak talk is making me hungry too. We got a place called Lenny's Sub shop that has an ok cheesesteak for a chain. They boast "authentic Philly Cheesesteak". Like I said they're ok but authentic my ass. In the words of Tommy Boy "I can take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed". They are, however, also the only place around that sells tastykakes. Looks like I'm heading over there after work.

First of all, it ain't authentic unless you get a real Amoroso roll, or a roll from an equivalent bakery in Philly baked that day. Let's make that abundantly clear. You can't just slap steak on any roll and call it Philly.

Secondly, the minute I saw that the Philly Pizza Steaks at that LA knockoff did not even include mozzarella cheese and had american cheese instead, I wanted to slap them. I now fart in their general direction. Fuuurrrrpppttt!

Pizza steaks must have both provolone and mozzarella, or just provolone, or just mozzarella. American cheese does not belong on a pizza steak. Damn it all!

Great thing about Florida is that with so many retired Philadelphians there, they import the Tastykakes down there. I'm sure in Clearwater where the Phillies train and I know there's a strong Philly contingent, they must sell them everywhere there.

I know a Lenny's in Clearwater, but they're a breakfast joint, not a sub shop. I'm guessing it's two different things.

In my opinion, Dodgers Dogs aren't that great anymore. I am convinced they used to be way, way, way, better. You definately have to get the All-Beef dog because the Pork ones taste like ass. I think there are a lot of other ballparks with better/cheaper food now. Dodger Stadium does have Gordon Biersch there and you can get Garlic Fries, but normally there's a huge line. I usually go to one of the smaller booths and get a Dodger Dog and a Sierra Nevada.

i'd still like to try one
nathans to me is still the best sog in the world, grilled of course

Lennys attempt at cheese steak

And they definitely aren't good for you as El P listed the nutritional facts. Also add to that whatever condiments you're going to put on it, because that's just for the dog and a bun.

Holy crap!

I just looked up this Lenny's Sub shop, and I can't believe how many of them there are out there. I never knew.

Apparently the guy who started it is from Wildwood, NJ. That tells me something.

And this also tells me something. The closest Lenny's Sub shop to Philly is in Virginia. I'm guessing there's a reason for that.

And the reason is, with so many local hoagie shops here that are so good, we would laugh at them silly if they tried to set up shop here.

You don't get a cheesesteak at Subway, people.

that website is pretty douchesque actually

Who likes/has tried Fat Tire? I've had it off the tap before, but I bought a twelver last week and it's pretty good in the bottle. You'd gotta keep it ice cold though, once it starts to warm up the taste goes downhill.

The Rev said...

I will say this.

If I visited your state, and you tried to impress me by taking me to a Lenny's Sub shop, I would mock you openly in the store.

El Padrino said...

Fat Tire, i will try
is it dark or an ale or what

"hot-a-meat-a-ball-a" is pretty bad marketing. Maybe it works here south of the Mason Dixon where many folks do not know any better.

The Rev said...

Hot-a-meat-a-ball-a???

That's douche-tastic!

Dikembe Meiztombo said...

We don't have any imitation Philadelphia shit here. What's the point?

The Rev said...

I am actually laughing out loud at this Lenny's place.

I mock them. I really do.

The Rev said...

Exactly Meiz.

Just like why we don't try to imitate good bratwurst or butter burgers. We know better.

It's a pale. Try and get it at bar that has it on tap. It's interesting, in a good way I guess. I never see it on sale though, the only reason I bought it was because nothing was on sale, so it was a nice surprise.
