When the East is in the house, Omigod..DANGER!

Lousiville / Rutgers is now the focus after the Cards beat WVU last night. Steve Slaton withdrew his name from Heisman candidacy by putting the ball on the ground twice. One costing them an immediate 6 points. It'll be interesting to see if either team gets to play for a national title if they run the table. Locally this game is like the biggest game of the year. Even if Rutgers wins they have to go to Morgantown on Dec 2nd. I can't see them beating both teams. If they do, hell, they'll earn that national title spot (but will go down in flames against either O.State or UM).

BORAT. Today. Pre-order tix if you plan on going. Not me, I'll wait. I hate crowds.

Bunch of games tonight in the Nuba, my remote will be putting in some overtime.

News is a little slow this am so my WTF is this.
Fitty & DeNiro?

Ok, 39-38-1.... Let's see if I can shake that .500 shit.

College:

Pitt (-5) over S. FLORIDA
If this game were in Panther country I'd have to think the spread would be 10. S.Florida doesn't have a game-changing home crowd. Pitt is the better team. ($50)

NEBRASKA (-6) over Missouri
Misery stinks. Cornhuskers break out the wood-shed spanking. I feel it. ($50)

CAL (-16) over Ucla
I continue riding the Cal bandwagon. Love, love, love this team. ($75)

Pros:

Colts (+3) over PATS
C'mon, did they not prove themselves last week? I can't believe they are getting points again. I'm taking them on the money line. They are winning out-right. While your at it make this my over/under pick too. Over 48. ($100 for the game, $50 for the over)

Broncos (+2) over STEELERS
Another confusing line. I know Heinz Field is tough but damn. I might forfeit the line here too and go moneyline. I smell a nice parlay brewing. ($50)

JAGS (-9) over Titans
Jags crush Titans at home....this is money. Fred Taylor and Jones-Drew are a two headed monster. It don't matter who the QB is. ($150)

NINERS (+5) over Vikes
Niners always play well after getting raped the week before. This game will be scary close for the Vikes. Hence the bet on them +5. Alex Smith is not Tom Brady but it seems like that Vike D is suspect. ($50)

Just Teasing (I'm like 8-1 on these)

Broncos +14
Colts +15
Chargers @ pickem'
Cowboys +9
($200)

Commence.
Hi Bill.

Fucking 'eers.

The good news is that coach rodriguez gave me a call this morning and I can recruit any 4 of you guys to play in the secondary with me for them next week.

He said it can't possibly be worse than the way his defense played last night anyway.

Any takers?

I don't think the NCAA would ever, EVER allow the Scarlet Knights to be in the championship game, even if they DID deserve it, and in my opinion, IF they do beat Louisville AND WV, they would deserve it. It sucks, but that's just the way it is - not enough fan support for Rutgers, which would translate to lower viewership numbers AND lower ad-rates, which means less money for the NCAA.

Dikembe Meiztombo said...

Blade 3 was garbage. That movie never happened for me.

for rutgers to make the jump from 15 up to the top 2, they need to play amazingly the last few weeks. i think the Big E showed that they had a couple talented teams last night, but i remain highly suspicious on their quality. yeah, they were equal to each other.. but lets see them play a bigtime program before they get thrown into a NatChamp game.

how many fumbles did your heisman hopeful have? sorry that you got hurt.. but both those teams looked like sivs last night. (is that how u spell "siv"? i dont know). both defenses looked weak as hell.

im out for the day, sickness is my weakness. keep the hate alive people..

and price is right comes on in about 30.. you bet im watching it.

The Rev said...

Something tells me they would find a way to rig the BCS standings to make Rutgers third. I agree. No way in hell Rutgers finds a way to go to the big bowl. They'll "David Stern" it somehow.

I completely disagree with one pick. Foxboro is kryptonite to Peyton Manning. Pats pull off a shootout.

I hate the cock.

Isiah Thomas said...

I'm all for teams who rise up and do well for themselves when they don't have much tradition, etc.

But even if Rutgers ran the table I'd be hard pressed to put them in the title game.

Here's their schedule. Not too daunting.

WVU and Louisville are good, not great teams. I think Louisville would get smoked by OSU or UM.

From Czaban:

I love all the “Peyton Manning vs. Tom Brady” arguments. There’s the classics, like…

If you had to win one game for your life, who would you choose, Peyton Manning, or Tom Brady?

If you were to start a franchise from scratch tomorrow, who would you choose, Peyton Manning or Tom Brady?

If you switched the quarterbacks and gave each other control of the other team, who would do better, Peyton Manning or Tom Brady?

Or some ones I would like to ask…

If you had to have somebody throw your baby out of the window of a burning 7th floor building, who would you choose, Peyton Manning or Tom Brady?

If you had to French kiss another man in public, who would it be, Peyton Manning or Tom Brady?

If you wanted somebody to out-duel the Levitra guy in the “throw it through the tire drill” ad, who would you want, Peyton Manning or Tom Brady?

The Rev said...

If you needed a blood transfusion to save your own life, who's blood would you choose? Peyton Manning's or Tom Brady's?

temwr said...

Didn't like Blade 3? You have to admit that Biel is nice to look at though. That can't be denied.

Isiah Thomas said...

I'd go Manning for the blood transfusion. He seems like a straight laced guy who would be clean.

Brady has that image but he's banged Tara Reid and who knows what other tjw level tramps. He might have the hiv or something.

temwr said...

I wouldn't really care who was throwing my baby out of a 7 story building, I would be much more concerned with who was going to catch it.

ToddPacker said...

Rutgers has no chance at getting the NCAA title game.

Most of the other top 10 team would have killed those two teams last night.....Nice "D"

I don't even think Louisville deserves to play in the NC game.....SEC bias at its best!!

If the Pats run the shit out of the ball they can limit Peyton to three or four drives then they have a shot. If they try that spread O shit they mangled the Vikes with last monday they have no shot. Hi Bill.

The Rev said...

SG was pretty good today. I had two laugh out loud moments during the column.

When he talked about wanting to yell "Lower, lower" at Bob Barker in an LA restaurant while he was haggling over the check, I damn near spit decaf coffee out my nose.

Isiah Thomas said...

he sounded a little whiny to me in the beginning part. The barker part was good.

Makes me want to root for the Colts after reading the first part.

Spaceman Spiff said...

sutton was found outside a "convenience" store, he was definitely getting his goose on. he is alert now tho, such a big deal about a passed out drunk. hes no diff than a wino you find in the street.

The Rev said...

A couple of laugh out loud moments is all I ask for from SG now.

Mayeb he is whiny about the Pats. But I agree with him. Peyton annoys me too.

Of course, I will send everyone mixed messages this weekend by wearing my throwback Patriots Adam Vinatieri jersey. It was a mistake letting him walk.

ToddPacker said...

Sutton has that textbook old drunk guy face

SG is dead to me, he is officially in the DB category.

Oh, Hi Bill

The Rev said...

SG may have lost his fastball, but he will never be in DB category to me.

At least Bill acknowledges the people who read his column instead of actively driving them away because he only wants it as a forum for his 6 closest friends and no one else.

ToddPacker said...

Rev

Good point, DB maybe a little too harsh for SG..

What’s the official number of jerseys you own...seems like you got one for every occasion.

Do you have a Hanson brothers Slapshot jersey...that's the pride of my collection

The Rev said...

There's still a part of me that wants to root for the Pats because I actively rooted for them in my time in Boston, even celebrated in the streets of Beantown when they won their first Super Bowl.

Of course, them beating the Eagles in SB XXXIX killed some of that for me.

El Padrino said...

nice spiff

real nice

Isiah Thomas said...

"even celebrated in the streets of Beantown when they won their first Super Bowl. "

I'm a little shocked to hear that from a supposed die hard Eagles fan. I would NEVER under any circumstance celebrate a Dallas SB victory if I lived in Dallas. Ever.

Ball Dip?

The Rev said...

Todd... I am jealous of that jersey. I would happily wear a Hanson Bros jersey.

I have over 25 jerseys now. I haven't counted in a while. I buy the cheap ones after they go on clearance that were once close to hundreds of dollars, but get knocked down to a more reasonable level after the player gets traded.

That Vinatieri jersey I got for $25 right after he signed with the Colts. It weas once $75, and I thought the red style throwback was a cool look. And I still got love for Adam after he made those kicks in the Super Bowls and the snow game against the Raiders.

Today... I have the NFL Throwback 1991 green Randall Cunningham jersey I just found on sale for $39. It's my new acquisition.

The Jack Clark 1982 Mitchell and Ness is my pride and joy, until I get the Vince Papale jersey for Xmas.

The Rev said...

I refuse to accept a ball dip for three reasons.

1. The Patriots are an AFC team where the Eagles are an NFC team, so no real rivalry ever existed. I agree on Dallas. No way I could celebrate that if I had the misfortune of having to live in Dallas.

2. I watched games on TV and went to games at Foxboro Stadium in the early 90's when the Pats were a doormat and I was in college. I know who Hart Lee Dykes, Hugh Millen, and Pat Harlow were. Not a bandwagon jumper here.

3. I celebrated the Pats victory for the same reasons that I celebrated the Red Sox in 2004. I love Boston, it is my second home, and I was really happy for the city. They deserved the title at the time.

Granted, Boston fans have now become insufferable. I know plenty of them, and I tell them to shut up on a regular basis now. But I still have love for them.

El Padrino said...

rev, replica jerseys or real deal?

ToddPacker said...

half a balldip

El Padrino said...

cuz i have at least 50 replica jerseys and about another 30 or so nba replica jerseys...

real jerseys (sewn on, identical to what the players wear) I only have like 10 of those combined.

And i'm the total opposite of you.
I never wear a traded jersey.
It's considered "retired" once they switch teams.

The Rev said...

ElP... both.

I have several real deal jerseys for the Phillies, Eagles, and Sixers. But I'll wear a replica too. The Cunningham today is a replica, but a well made one.

The Rev said...

To me, if you have the guts to wear a traded jersey, that makes you a real fan.

Anyone can wear the current star of a team. But I still take pride in wearing a Jim Thome Phillies real deal because Thome is still a class act.

But I still can't bring myself to wear the TO black replica Eagles jersey. Someone gave it to me for free after he left the Eagles. It's brand new, never worn by anyone. I haven't worn it once.

ToddPacker said...

My son has started getting into sports jerseys over the past couple of years. It sucks dropping mad cash on mini-jerseys only to have them not fit after a year.

House rule: only replicas while your still growing

Isiah Thomas said...

seeing that the Pats aren't Philly's rival I can see the Dallas/Was analogy doesn't fit.

But I'd never root for another team to win the SB unless its the Skins, that's just me.

And can you refuse a ball dip?

The Rev said...

I think you can at least challenge a ball dip if you feel it to be unwarranted.

In essence, I'm throwing the red flag.

Isiah Thomas said...

the only jersey I have is a replica Skins jersey for Deion Sanders. I ball dip myself for that.

Isiah Thomas said...

yeah you can red flag a ball dip.

ToddPacker said...

Self enforced ball dip....very noble

Isiah Thomas said...

steve change that pic immediately. Every time I hit refresh that stupid pic pops up. It makes me want to hurt people.

El Padrino said...

notice bill wrote a Q-Rich correction after he read here at LOV that I ripped him for sayin he was fat!!?

The Rev said...

Definitely, Todd. You have to go replica while they are young.

I have a few NBA jerseys myself. I bought some of those D'Funkd jerseys on a clearance rack a while ago just for kicks. My favorite is the Elton Brand jersey in the style of the old Buffalo Braves. I'm not even that much of an Elton Brand fan, but I loved the jersey look and it was only 12 bucks with sewn on lettering.

ToddPacker said...

i agree with Zeke, that picture has to go steve

The Rev said...

A self enforced ball dip? You could break your own neck doing that.

Either that, or you could have a great porn career.

If I could do that to myself, I'd never leave the house.

ToddPacker said...

Guy in Steve’s picture looks like he is in the process of enjoying a ball-dip

The Rev said...

I disagree. Steve does not have to do anything.

And I hate Duke with a passion! Really, I wish bad things for that team.

But Steve is creating hatred and angst with that pic. And isn't that part of what makes this here lawless society great?

Of course, we all have the right to bash him for having the pic.

Isiah Thomas said...

someone has to call out SG for going hollywood.

Granted I only lived in LA for about 2 years but when there found there to be a few "buckets" of people types.

1) Celebs and people associated with Hollywood and/or entertainment.

2) People who wanted to act like they were in #1 but weren't.

3) People who tried a little to hard to be cool.

4) People who didn't give a fuck and weren't from LA and stayed true to themselves.

5) Mexicans.

Alright #5 is a joke (kinda).

I've never been to Boston, and don't know anyone from Boston, but from what I've seen on tv and lets face it tv teaches you everything, SG isn't acting like a guy who grew up in New England.

To me he's in bucket 1 and a half. He's kinda in the entertainment field but he's kinda in the ball sniffing I think I'm in Hollywood bucket.

People from Boston need to rebel against him and call him out on this.

The Rev said...

You know, Mitchell and Ness would consider that Sanders jersey a throwback. That's the way I look at it.

They sell a bunch of Sanders jerseys with different teams. I think they might even have a Skins one for sale.

I was looking at their website, and salivating over the 1980 Phillies Mike Schmidt jersey that was just slashed to half price. I'm sweating over that one.

ToddPacker said...

Zeke excellent SG points.....hopefully even his own boston people turn on him

The Rev said...

As an adopted Bostonian for many years, I've called SG out here before.

I ranted against him when he treated his meeting with Tiger Woods like not as much of a big deal. At that point, he went too Hollywood on us.

If I got to play video golf with Tiger Woods for 10 minutes, I'd be telling that story forever as if it were one of the greatest moments of my life.

Since you consider a jersey retired after a player leaves a team, I now will bring this up to you.

When SG is good, I'll give him props for being good. I still think his recent Lambeau trip column was one of his best. I am still a fan.

But I'll call it as I see it if he goes wrong. I am far from a blind fan of his. When he sucks, I'll say he sucks.

Isiah Thomas said...

I'm going to slit my wrists if Steve doesn't change the pic soon.

Maybe he can keep it if he wants just don't be the first comment of the day so we see it first every time we refresh.

I am really about to claw my eyeballs out.

If the guy didn't have a Duke jersey out I would swear it was a pic for a Special Olympics guy.

hartford whalers and quebec nordiques! those are two of the best NHL jersey's ever.

El Padrino said...

iam , i agree sen on is the way to go

THE CHAMP. said...

IAM, with you we probably need to go with what jerseys you DON'T have. it would be a shorter list

El Padrino said...

The Rev said...

Home and away on the Whale... damn!

I saw a game in Hartford once. They kicked the Penguins ass that night in the old Civic Center 7-2, with Mario Lemieux on the ice. And the scoreboard kept conking out on us. We spent half the game with the time being kept on the ice cause the scoreboard went dark. What a cheap ass building they had.

But that song is forever stuck in my head... the Brass Bonanza!

The Rev said...

By the way Bryan... did you get your package?

The Rev said...

Which players are represented on the Whale jerseys?

The Rev said...

And do you own Flyers jerseys?

The Rev said...

Funny thing is if you buy an authentic throwback Eagles jerseys from the early 90's, you are forced to get screen printed. The Eagles didn't sew on their numbers in those years. They wore screen printed jerseys on the field.

Norman Braman was such a cheap ass.

anonymous said...

rev, whalers = blanks.

flyers.. i def. have the orange one, no name.

i think i might have some weird alternate version too, from the old days (with different shoulder striping or something)... but i'd have to check "The Closet", as im honestly fuzzy to whether i ended up buying that one or not.

sad but true.

ToddPacker said...

How about the old school Vancover jerseys...the burger king lookin ones...those were great

Beth82678 said...

Ok, question for the masses - if you get a jersey, is it bad form not to have a player name/number on it? I have a Thrashers jersey (eat your heart out Iam :-)) and it is just a generic one, although it is signed by their young hotshot goalie Kari Lehtonen.

THE CHAMP. said...

rev- got the package. if i had a camera here i'd take a picture and post it. i'll get it done over the weekend.

El Padrino said...

i say it's ok
espeacially for hockey
other than baseball most other jerseys come with a name on the back

anonymous said...

the "one of every kind" collection are all not-named jerseys.

should i start listing hockey sweaters WITH names? i dont think we want to go there... although speaking of the Canucks, i hate the classic throwbacks, but i have 3 or 4 Pavel Bure jerseys.

white and black #10's, and the red #96 that he wore for one year. Bure was my boi.

rev, flyers, orange, plain. just checked, thats the only one.

the thing about nashville and ATL is that those jerseys are like that shiny mesh stuff, which i despise. however, the white ATL jersey is real solid looking.. just cant take the crappy quality mesh.

The Rev said...

Glad you got it, Bryan.

Question on the Thrashers jersey. No, I do not believe it is bad form to have a blank one. Though all my jerseys except one have a player featured.

The Rev said...

Iam...

if the Flyers jersey has a single white armband on each arm and a white band around the waist, you have an old school one from the 70's. If the white stripe runs down the arm lengthwise, it's more recent from the 80's and 90's.

But the third Flyers jersey today is also orange with a slightly different logo.

Dikembe Meiztombo said...

Man, you guys have blown some solid dollars on jerseys. I wish I was rich, too.

Beth82678 said...

Thanks for the feedback guys, some things a chick just needs a "man ruling" on. :-)

And I've been tempted to get a name on it, but I don't want to be one of the sheep and get Kovalchuk (sp?). I swear it seems like 80% of the jerseys at a game have his name on it. Since I got mine signed by Lehtonen I've been thinking more and more of getting his info on it. If you listen to all the so-called experts he's a can't miss superstar (although one who just got benched temporarily).

Dikembe Meiztombo said...

I have Keith Van Horn's address.

Spaceman Spiff said...

holy shit, liriano is out for the whole 07 season. hes gonna have tommy john. wow, the twins really handled him well last year, when he first got hurt they coulda got the ball rolling and had him for some games next year. nope, out for the fucking season. i love it.

Isiah Thomas said...

do you have those things insured iam? God forbid someone fire bombs your house in a victory celebration and those puppies go up in flames.

temwr said...

I have a couple personalized Jerseys, but I never ever ever wear them (except one time for each of them). They were both gifts from the future in-laws so I had to wear them both out with the future in-laws once.

El Padrino said...

tony larussa movie?
wtf

temwr said...

My other jerseys (all 3 of them) have a real player on them. 1 throwback, 1 authentic and 1 replica.

Spaceman Spiff said...

deniro as larussa, fifty cent as pujols?

ToddPacker said...

"tony larussa movie?"

Is that karate kid related...maybe danielson perv uncle

temwr said...

I call BS on Simmons comparing Peyton to ARod. ARod chokes in any clutch situation during the regular season, during the playoffs, during a father son game. Manning only chokes in the playoffs. He is basically money on a regular season 4th Qtr drive.

Comparing those two is like comparing the porn careers of Jenna Jamison and Denise Richards. Yeah Denise did some soft core stuff in Wild Things, but come on, there is no comparing her and Jenna, they are totally different.

Dikembe Meiztombo said...

Drunk DJ Friday fires up at 4:30. Get your thinking caps on.

ToddPacker said...

I think SG just likes writing about ARod any chance he gets. Imagine if the purple-lipped one went to the Sox (when the deal fell though) instead of the yanks...he'd be defending the hell out of ARod all the time.

SG is a one trick pony...retire the column

Oh, Hi Bill
