Post #100... I promise it ain't political.

For the historic 100th post here at LOV, I sat down to think of what I could say.

I thought I might get a little sappy on you. You know, thank you all for your support and stuff like that. Get all mushy like it's an Academy Awards speech. But I didn't want to be accused of having no balls yet again.

I thought I would look back on previous posts and ask you what your favorite one was. But my last name isn't Shanoff, so that's out.

I even thought I would make fun of you-know-who about how his blog posts only get 8 comments on them now, and they're all about the Atlanta Hawks and lame stuff like that, but that's definitely getting old.

So how do we commemorate what this blog means to us?

I think the best way to sum up what this blog means to all of us is how we refer to our past events. I can tell you about certain things that have happened within our lawless society, and you all will go "Oh yeah, I remember that!"

It's how someone recently referred to a past comment about how Poindexter has a say in your national championship game, and we all knew what they were talking about and who originally said that comment.

It's remembering who it was that was punished for posting at you-know-who's blog by being referred to as "loving moose cock".

It's remembering who lost the bet at you-know-who's blog and had to write 25 times "I love donkey dick".

It's knowing what the term "ball dip" means, and who the man in charge is of administering said "punishment".

It's dismissing another person's gaming accomplishments by calling out "poop hands".

It's knowing the difference between a "WTH" and a "WTF".

It's knowing who is famous for leaving a woman in a 7-11 parking lot (or so they claim).

It's knowing what happens around here after 4pm ET on a Friday, and why we all suddenly start naming off rap songs.

It's waiting for the next day's postings to see if so-and-so will report in on whether or not they did anything with that office chick, or how it was going to the NLCS game the night before.

It's being OK with the fact that about 25 guys comment here regularly, and only two women do (and what lovely women they are).

It's how we can blast each other and argue about topics with each other, but if an outsider comes in and bashes us we suddenly unite and shoot back at that guy.

It's how one commenter can change the mood of many different guys simply by changing his profile pic.

It's knowing who the Bears fans are here, who the Falcons fans are, who likes the Colts or the Cowboys, etc.

I think you know what I mean by now.

We have a language and an attitude all our own. Many blogs never get that kind of identity. They may be bigger than us, or more visited, but I can guarantee that they don't have our unique identity. And that comes from all of you who comment regularly. I said it before, and I'll say it now... this blog is nothing without all of you.

For me personally, I think it means that whenever I am away from the blog, and I hear some sports news about the Mets, I start to wonder what ElP thinks. Or if I hear a Tigers tidbit, I wonder what Iam's take on it will be. Or if something happens with the Redskins, I wonder what Zeke will say. It's things like that. I am interested to hear what each and every one of you will say about the events in the sports world, and the world in general each and every time. And if an event happens, I am always anxious to see what all of you will say. Even if I don't agree with your take, I always want to read it.

And if any of you have ever thought to yourself after seeing a news tidbit about Philly sports "What does the Rev think about this," then I appreciate that thought.

And one of these days, maybe some of us will meet in person. Maybe we won't ever meet. Who knows? But if we do, I'm sure we will immediately get into a good beer discussion.

So to close this off, I think there really is one thing left to say...

Hi Bill.

I'm glad you all liked the post. I actually rewrote it yesterday.

Signing that Japanese pitcher for 40 million might be conservative.

I'm thinking he will want $60 million. That would put the total bill around $110 million.

LINEUP ADVICE:
going with a WR heavy roster this week. need help deciding on my 5th receiver between:

Randy Moss v. Chiefs
Drew Bennett v. Eagles
Jerricho Cotchery v. Bears

who would you take out of these three?

Isiah Thomas said...

this might be the begining of the end for Theo if it blows up in his face.

This is a panic move by the Sawx. The Yankees have them completely mind fucked.

The Rev said...

The Eagles are more susceptible to the run than the pass right now. So I don't think Bennett will have a great day.

However, given the other two choices you have, and since Randy Moss has practically admitted he has quit, I would go with Bennett.

The Rev said...

Big time panic move by the Sox.

I've talked to a couple of people up there, and they don't understand it. They wonder why they can't use that money to actually get another player.

whocares said...

Props to the Rev. Only a bleeding heart could write a post that gay. Well done.

OJ Simpson. Not a Jew...

El Padrino said...

i would also go with Bennett
it's a shame too cause moss could do damage in KC if he was mentally capable

temwr said...

RE: FF ?
Bennet is coming off a good game and Moss is coming off whining about not being happy, so he is isn't trying. The Crotch had a solid game, but is playing a tough Bears D.

I think I play Moss and hope for the best, he has the highest ceiling of the 3. Bennett is probably the smart play. He should be good for a guaranteed 75 yards. Moss might get 10 yards he might get 210.

temwr said...

RE: Simpson

I am a big fan of the whole double jeopardy system we have over here. But if someone gets tried for a crime, gets found not guilty, then basically comes out and says "umm yeah, I actually did do that." then maybe we can make an exception and just throw them in jail anyway. At the very least he needs a ball dip from some sumo wrestler.

temwr said...

RE: Jap Pitcher guy
Baseball has a luxury tax right? So the Sox bill for this guy could be $51M to talk $60M salary and another $60M tax?? $171M

Spaceman Spiff said...

what's a gyroball? can i eat it

Spaceman Spiff said...

if someone didnt commit the crime, why would they ever think of how they would do it.

Spaceman Spiff said...

the red sox have no closer

El Padrino said...

tem the 51 bid does not count agasint the cap, therefore no luxury tax

ToddPacker said...

what about papelbon?

temwr said...

Just the salary part would count against the tax.

So the initial 51, another 60 in salary and another 60 in tax to match his salary part = $171M??

temwr said...

Or if you just want to talk one years worth of salary it would be

51 fee + 15 salary = 15 tax = $81M

Wow.

temwr said...

One years = the first year

because that 51 doesn't repeat.

but damn, that is a lot of $$$ to throw out there for one year.

Spaceman Spiff said...

papelbon is starting from now on

ToddPacker said...

spiff

i missed that...i heard rumors but didn't know papelbon starting was a done deal..

Matsuzaka:
anyone look at this guys numbers from the japanese league....not that impressive...some good years and some average years...

Martin VanNostrand said...

Pap is probably going to start next year. There is also a roumor of a trade with the Pads for Peavy. They need a bat and the Sox might try to send them Manny. Add Peavy and Pap along with Schilling Beckett, Wake and the possibly new Japanese pitcher that could be a deep rotation. Clement is out until the All Star break from surgery. As said they do need a closer. They a smoking pitcher from UNC in the draft but I'm not sure if he will be ready.

As a New England sports fan I try to keep my discussion of the Sox, Celtics and Pats to a minimum here. I know most of you hate 2 of the 3 teams and get overkill from SG on all that anyway. That said if you need an opinion on any of those squads feel free to fire away.

Rev - Excellent post sir. Sports Century material fo sho.

Spaceman Spiff said...

martin, did you hear about the pats putting in artificial turf in time for the next home game

anonymous said...

let's just point out that 50 mill is a shitload of money for anything, and the fact that someone pays that (simply to TALK to someone) is ludicrous.

let's throw the bleeding vagina out there (cause im all sappy from Rev's post), but that 50 million would be better spent on hurricane victims or needy children.

seriously though, the fact that you can blow that much money and not really care.. kinda sad.

Spaceman Spiff said...

when you make your own money, you can do whatever you want with it.

Martin VanNostrand said...

I also think that is way too much for this pitcher. The sox could buy entire other teams for that kind of scrilla.

Martin VanNostrand said...

Wow, I had not heard that yet Spiff. That's funny as a crappy pitch has always been one of their weapons against a running team. I guess it's working against them now.

whocares said...

Has any jap player yet lived up to the hype? Maybe I'm missing one but arent they generally all just a fad. Most of them are serviceable, but never quite get to "legend" status like they were in japland. And 110 mil is a lot to drop on a maybe...

FOr the record, that entire section is here.

ToddPacker said...

The Rev said...

I'm one of the few here who does not mind discussing New England teams. So you've got me, MV.

I ws actually discussng the Patriots field situation last night with someone up there. I've heard that a new field was to be installed by the next game.

However I am also told that they are going to have to wait until the following season due to an obscure NFL rule that states you have to end the season with the same type of field you began it with. I'm not sure which to believe. But eventually a new synthetic field is coming there.

They used to have big problems with the grass in old Foxboro Stadium too. It just doesn't grow well up there with the colder months starting earlier. That problem has carried over to the new stadium.

Combine that with the MLS New England Revolution trampling all over the grass on their home games, and that field takes a beating.

Isiah Thomas said...

anyone else heard that the Sawx have been in negotiations with Jack Roush for minority ownership in his race team. I heard they were looking to in for upwards of 49% of Rousch Racing. Sawx n NASCAR.

The Rev said...

Sawx in Nascar? That's odd.

There is a solid NASCAR contingency in Boston. It's not a big contingency though. But they do get a big turn out for the race that happens every year in New Hampshire.

Isiah Thomas said...

I'd love to be Mooosina. You take a paycut of $6 mil per year but will still bank $11.

If I was a ball player on the level of A-Rod, Manny, etc I'd get stupid with the money. Use $100 for post-it notes, etc.

Isiah Thomas said...

the story isn't new, I think its pretty much a done deal.

anonymous said...

shameless promotion: if you like feeling better than people, read my blog.

The Rev said...

Reading more news, it looks more like the Pats will get to install that new field this year and for the next home game.

anonymous said...

hideo nomo!!!

temwr said...

With the new team rules coming into effect soon in NASCAR (owners can only run 4 teams max, currently Roush has 5), I would not be suprised to see this Sawx deal turn into something where they outright own or at least own a majority of 1 or 2 of the teams, but Roush still runs them. That way Roush can field his 5 or so teams and skirt the rules limiting you to 4 per owner.

Isiah Thomas said...

good call Tem. I think teams with 5 will be grandfathered into the law though, not 100% sure.

The Rev said...

Richard Seymour of the Patriots gave out his cell number over a Boston radio station... and it is listed here.

Who wants to call an all-pro defensive lineman?

temwr said...

Nah, they are going to force Jack to cut a team by 2008 or 2009, unless something changes and he can skirt the rule.

temwr said...

Richard Seymour is awesome. All famous people should have a cell that people can call and every once in awhile the celeb will actually answer it. The rest of the time your voice message gets deleted instantly.

so far he's been pretty smart with the ball evidenced by him taking a lot of 3rd down sacks. He's played well this year, you can see improvement. I don't think he'll monkey fuck the football away this weekend. Get sacked and cough it up maybe but not INT the game away.

well i guess i don't have to watch the game saturday since ESPN played it on NCAA 07. thanks for sparing me the time ESPN.

Beth you need to get the poop hands out and retake your copter score.

Isiah Thomas said...

I don't see Henne screwing the game up, he's a Jr. This isn't his first rodeo (I hate that analogy but it fits here).

Hart can run the ball, if he goes down we got 3 game tested backs who can pick up the load.

Manningham and Arrington, you can't double both.

The TE might be a sleeper here. UM has been starting their 3rd string TE who is pret-tay pret-tay pret-tay dang good. The TE drag might be a HUGE play on Sat.

On D.

The front 4 can get pressure themselves. Leaving the LB's to drop into coverage, stuff the run or spy Smith. Pass coverage may be a weakness but I'd put Hall on Gonzo. Also I've heard our 2nd corner ran track against Ginn in HS and was 2nd to him in the 100 and 1st against him in the 200.

I don't see UM getting blown out.

theyre not even remotely on the radar. they are bottom dwellers. let it go. in a few years when they have some good prospects and such.. then we'll listen to the bitching (it will be hype by then though). until then, it's gonna take time.. so quit'cha!

temwr running diary of SG column:

1:09 - SG has an interesting premise write the column before something actually happens. maybe i will write my OSU clinches spot in BCS title game article now

1:10 - Does doc really suck this bad or does the SG taint my view? SG is throwing out damning facts, Doc must go.

1:11 - SG wants Danny Ainge to coach the team. I do like Danny Ainge and remember spending time in France with his daughter. Of course that was just by chance that she was on the same student trip as me, but it was cool.

1:13 - Writing the running diary makes the reading go really slow.

1:14 - SG has hit his quadfecta 6 paragraphs in. Already mentioned the dad, a friend, a NE sports team, and the Godfather. The only thing left is the Sports Gal, the Duece, Swinger, gambling, and his daughter.

1:16 - Mark off Swingers

1:17 - SG bitches because Doc put in short people to get the rebound off the free throw. TFB buddy, your team should box out. A 6'7" guy should be able to box out and get the free throw rebound.

1:20 - The realization is setting in that this column is really for a Boston only audience, yet I am still reading it. I don't even know the skill sets of half of these players he is talking about. Gerald Green at PF? OK, who is he? Why can't he play PF?

1:22 - SG calls Bob Cousy the Cooz, that is close enough to the Dooz or whatever his dog is named. So check that off the list.

1:23 - SG rips on Bob Ryan. I don't think anyone likes Bob Ryan, ripping on him seems safe

1:24 - SG is clearly jaded that Bob Ryan and company did not accept him into their club. Quit whining Bill. You need ball dipped for that whining

1:27 - SG is trying to take the credit for starting the fire Doc revolution. At this point I would like to take credit for the Brit K-Fed divorce. I wrote in an email once that they should break up and now they did.

1:28 - SG says he didn't attack Doc personally, just said he was a shitty coach. That's like me telling Iam that he is a shitty lawyer, but that's nothing personal...or Rev sucks at traffic reports, but nothing personal man. At this point I am adding SG to the list of people I would punch in the face if I ever met them.

1:30 - SG says Peirce morphed into Teen wolf and now throws up shots and turns the ball over...wasn't Teen Wolf good? Didn't he make his shots? Teen Wolf should be pissed.

1:31 - SG makes more blog references. I think he must read 8hrs a day of blogs. His wife must be happy as can be. I hope she has a job so she doesn't have to sit at home taking care of the baby while her husband read blogs all day and calls it "work."

1:33 - Column abruptly ends with some hairbrained trades to help the Celtics get Oden.

1:35 - Well there was no gambling reference, SG, or daughter reference, but he talked about an old crazy gf.

i was just about to say that the 100th post wasn't even going to make it to 200 comments.

sad

Isiah Thomas said...

did anyone hear Sean Salisbury on Dan Patrick's radio show a little bit ago?

Dude sounded like he snorted an 8 ball.

Isiah Thomas said...

I'm going on vaca in two days, Friday can't get here quick enough.

200 comments, that's easy. Watch and learn boys:

- The Democrats caused 9/11, if the republicans would have been in office, they would have caught ben laden first.

- Anybody who has an abortion is going to hell, it's a sin and should be outlawed.

- Gay people should not be allowed to get married, a marriage is a union between man and woman

- Stem cell research is a joke, it doesn't work. Science is wrong and evil.

- There is nothing wrong with torturing a few people if it keeps are country safe.

There that should do it ;)

where ya goin zeke?

Isiah Thomas said...

Anyone see the Simpson's movie trailer? Wasn't sure what to make of it.

Zeke Fucks My Mom said...

oh wait i forget

Jessica Alba is not hot, she's ugly, and Kevin Cott's blog is the greatest blog of all time.

There, we should be up to 500 in no time.

The Rev said...

I ain't biting on those comments.

Sorry.

ToddPacker said...

steve

was that really necessary?

Isiah Thomas said...

shouldn't call it vaca as much is it my dumb ass won't be at work next week.

Going back home to good ol' VA. Visit my peoples.

Isiah Thomas said...

steve broke a rule, FH get the nuts ready, just the nuts.

The Rev said...

A week without Zeke?

Are you going to check in while on vaca, or are we going to miss you too?

Isiah Thomas said...

I bought a portable dvd player on ebay for the flights, paid for it last monday....dood took me for a ride I think. Fuck that.

Zeke Fucks My Mom said...

LOL, i think to celebrate the 100 posts, we should remove the DB comment by the administrator

Isiah Thomas said...

zeke-light.

I'll check in, win or lose on Monday fo sho.

Isiah Thomas said...

I wanted to copy/paste Crafty Vets comment in our comments today....

went to find it at DB's place...he deleted all of those posts.

what a fag.

The Rev said...

Portable DVD player's are overrated.

I just play them on my laptop. It came with a DVD program. It's pretty much the same thing, and I don't have to buy an extra unit.

NNNiiiicccceeee

Isiah Thomas said...

even though I'll be back east I'm not going to stop wearing shorts, can't break the streak.

ToddPacker said...

"zeke-light"

funny

Isiah Thomas said...

I hear ya Rev, this one was only $50 and is said to be in perfect condition. Plus I didn't want to drag my laptop all over the place. And my laptop battery only works for 2 hours or so.

temwr said...

I think running diary only works on non mag, non pick columns. It will get played out too quickly otherwise...especially considering it is a rip off of what he already does.

ToddPacker said...

"even though I'll be back east I'm not going to stop wearing shorts, can't break the streak."

pants are overrated...

The Rev said...

I remember early comments by DB along the lines of "this is what I had in mind for the comments section".

So, what he had in mind all along is something where his childhood lackey friends were the only ones commenting, and all he wrote about was Atlanta sports.

Way to raise your game there, guy!

temwr said...

My laptop battery went from working for 2 hours to working for like 10 minutes overnight. One day it was all good, the next day, BAM, suck city.

Zeke Fucks My Mom said...

I don't know what part of the east your going to, but shorts in NC is gonna be kinda chilly.

Isiah Thomas said...

what I don't get is that its still 80 during the day here and I see assholes out in long pants and sweaters. WTH?

The Rev said...

Yeah, I see what you are saying. Sometimes you need something more compact.

50 bucks and you think he took you for a ride? How so?

ToddPacker said...

DB...who's that?....i thought he was off the LOV radar.

temwr said...

Zeke will be wearing the shorts either solely inside, or underneath 3 layers of pants. Once you get used to 100 degree weather, 30 degree weather has to seem ball freezing cold.

Isiah Thomas said...

what a fag for deleting the posts where we staged our revolution.

The Rev said...

I still get a couple of hours out of my laptop.

Though I only really use it to play music during DJ gigs, and I usually get to plug in during those gigs. So the battery usually doesn't come into play for me.

El Padrino said...

boycott pants

Isiah Thomas said...

dude played the "I'll ship it tomorrow" then then "worked late I'll ship it asap today" shit. Won't get back to me with the tracking #, etc.

Yeah I'm a petty bitch for fitty $. But I wanted to bust that bitch out on the plane.

jugdish said...

All good points Steve!

Isiah Thomas said...

shit, 50 degrees feels like -10 degrees to me now.

anonymous said...

Zeke, on keeping it really real...

"Count on San Antonio's Bruce Bowen to bring the Bad Boy out of Knicks coach Isiah Thomas.

According to Bowen, Thomas told his players to break Bowen's neck after Knicks guard Steve Francis suffered an ankle injury from landing on the Spur's foot Saturday. Bowen has been accused of purposely sticking his foot under jump shooters.

Thomas told Newsday he didn't order his players to injure Bowen -- at least not his neck. "I said, 'The next time he goes up, stick your foot underneath his like he sticks his under yours. See how he feels if his foot is broken.' "

ToddPacker said...

Zeke

you got to see some of the clowns from miami...last week at the gator game (5 hours north of miami), some of these peeps from south florida broke out hats and gloves after the game...the temp was like 45°...these people are weak.

Isiah Thomas said...

I haven't worn pants on a regular basis, except to nice restaurants, for at least 7 or 8 months.

temwr said...

hey jfreak, what did you think of the hoosiers choking away that 12 point lead in like 3 minutes of play?

And what is with the fouls, they get like 30 a game?

The Rev said...

I think we can have a small DB discussion. Because that revelation is important to me.

He was so intimidated by us, that he couldn't even bear to have the posting where the revolution was born stay on his blog.

But at the same time... what a tribute for our 100th post, eh?

We really got to him, didn't we?

Isiah Thomas said...

what fags. Wearing sweaters in 80 degree weather is beyond me.

jugdish said...

What happened with dB? I missed it.

Isiah Thomas said...

tem that one little guard was pulling shots out his assssssss, that last 3 was straight ball dipping.

temwr said...

And leon washington apparently has a topps card out there where he is flipping off the camera...i remember when i collected cards..they were worth at least 100 times more 10 years ago than they are now...this topic pisses me off, why did i bring it up.

The Rev said...

It ain't petty Zeke. If he doesn't ship when he says he will, then that ain't good.

If he doesn't ship by the time you get on the plane, wait until you get it, then zing his ass with feedback.

anonymous said...

and zeke, fitty bones it still fitty bones.

we'll posse up the LOV locals in his region and send some peeps to stomp him out.

temwr said...

Hoosiers are going to have a long year if they keep getting 30 team fouls a game.

The Rev said...

Jug...

he deleted the posting where we all abandoned him and started this blog.

Pretty lame, eh?

The Rev said...

I would get very petty over fitty bones.

Isiah Thomas said...

thats another thing rev, I pay for ebay shit right after the auction ends. Dood won't hook me with my feedback. He's scurred.

FH - he has an indiana address, he might need'a dippin.

temwr said...

and i missed this db thing too, did he do something recently, or are you all just reminiscing about the "good old days." reminiscing on 100th post day might get a pass, but any other day and you need to go straight to ball dips.
