.......Like you was Poindexter

Its too early on a Monday after a week off to be witty, clever or attempt to be funny.

The biggest stories to me are:

1) CFB - Still haven't heard a valid argument to prevent a rematch. And I haven't heard one talking head point out the fact that SC lost to a 4 loss Oregon St. team. SC is a good team so crown their ass if you want to, they are who we thought they were.

2) Haven't watched a ton of CBB but there seems to be a shit load of upsets in the Top 25. I'm talking about shit like Old Dominion over Georgetown type upsets. Should make for a wild season.

3) Bryant Gumble should not be anywhere near a NFL telecast. Unless its a cut-a-way into the stands and some announcer goes "there's Bryant Gumble".

4) This is really coming across like SP's "things I think I think". I hate myself.

5) NFL - Vince Young. FUUUUCCKKKKKKK. I hate that guy. I am dumbfounded he's had success at such an early stage in his career. I'm hoping its just teams getting adjusted to his game. If he's like this for the next 10 years I'll be unhappy.

Along this same lines, what happened to rookie or young QB's taking their licks? There are a ton of young QB's doing well. Tony Rhomo (silent r)?

I'll admit this. I don't hate Peyton Manning. I hope he wins it all this year.

And I appear to have made it through a few flights and a week in cold weather without getting sick. This is after sitting around the cougher, the sneezer and a kid who had a farting problem. Good for me.

Hi Bill.

Mike Vick is done. Along with the rest of the Falcons team. Their owner is already talking about cleaning house. I've never heard a crowd boo so loud.

Way to give the finger to your fans there Mike! That should help your cause. Now go fumble again.

temwr said...

He gave the finger to his home fans? I didn't realize it was a home game until now. He is so gone. He will be QBing MIA next year.

RE: zeke link

The author seems to glaze over this point...which probably shouldn't be just glazed over:

"Strength of schedule? USC faced 10 teams that will play in bowls, Michigan seven."

I have no idea if that is true or not, but it is a quote from the article. Seemingly this doesn't support the whole OSU/UM rematch idea. I wonder why the author even put it in there. If I were writing that article, I'd have left that out.

temwr said...

There will be lots of CFB coaching openings this season.

NC State guy is out, Alabama guy is out, Michigan State guy is out, Miami guy is out....

temwr said...

Wha???

This is one heck of a story. At my first read it sounds like the legal end of the story will go down to a he-said-she-said between some police officers and a stripper.

temwr said...

And when the hell do CBB rankings come out? I want to know where Butler lands.

Like 12? 10? Or something like 18? I'd put them at 4 and tell everyone who disagreed to lick my scro.

Isiah Thomas said...

its smells like a dirty diaper in this building today.

ToddPacker said...

where is EP?...i'm not sure he has recovered from that Giants choke...that was horrible...24 points in the last 10 minutes...

Zeke Fucks My Mom said...

No duke pic, but I have to stare at that ugly ass blue and yell...oh wait, I forgot, I don't care about Michigan.

ACC took has taken a beat down, UNC...ass beatn`, Duke...ass beatn`, GA Tech...ass beatn`. The conference has even started yet, it's gonna be a long year.

Isiah Thomas said...

Eli is looking pret-tay pret-tay pret-tay bad these days. That last pick was awful.

ToddPacker said...

Anyone watch the Kansas/UF game Sat. night...pretty good early season BB game...A good loss (if there is such a thing) for Florida...it gets them out of the number 1 ranking and hopefully gets them ready for conference play

temwr said...

Eli is the anti-Peyton.

temwr said...

There are definitely good losses in CBB. You do not want your first loss to be in the conference tourney or in the big tourney.

I did not watch the game, but it sounded like a good game.

Zeke Fucks My Mom said...

Yea, I curious about the polls, there gonna look very different this week.

ToddPacker said...

Florida got lucky to force the game into OT...and then had a shot to win it on a last second three, but it didn't go down...

ToddPacker said...

I hope Pitt gets the number 1 ranking over OSU....those guys already have the number 1 in football....OSU plays UNC this week...should ba a good game

temwr said...

I think UNC wins that by at least 10. I have not been impressed with OSU at all in the games I have watched. They have only 1 big guy who is worth anything at all and he is just slightly above average. Well until Oden gets back, then they will have a quality big, but right now they have little inside. Unless they hit above 55% on their 3s UNC will cruise.

temwr said...

Mich State apparently hired Dantonio from Cinci to coach.

El Padrino said...

the only loss that was worse since i was 3 years old was the 49er playoff debacle in 2001-02

temwr said...

I do not understand how ND gets top 10 votes in the harris and coach's polls.

temwr said...

Even the computers have them as the 8th best team.

temwr said...

Quinn will love oakland.

temwr said...

And I guess coach's put ND at 12, which is probably about right.

I don't get the computers putting them at 8 though...

Martin VanNostrand said...

Zeke - did the East break your consecutive days in shorts streak?

Props to Miez for ending my FFL streak. If anyone told me Rivers would have -1 against Oak Town I would have said you're crazy.

temwr said...

And as far as UM/USC goes the computers put them almost dead even, it is the humans that are launching USC ahead.

Isiah Thomas said...

still rocked shorts everyday but mainly indoors.

Isiah Thomas said...

Musberger AND Davie couldn't get off ND's nuts, it was sickening.

Quinn, MD. will be a collosal failure in the NFL. He's great when his team is down 21 in big games though.

Los said...

I'm wondering how a two-loss Notre Dame can still be playing in a BCS title game. I understand that the only two losses came against 2 of the best 3 teams in the country, BUT, they haven't exactly been world-beaters, have they?

I don't want a Michigan vs. Notre Dame rematch, but I think we might be going that way.

I feel bad for the Wolverines, because I think they should be in the title game, BUT I'm not exactly disappointed in the prospects of a USC vs. Ohio State game, either.

El Padrino said...

funny, here in NY they are saying that Eli, depsite his bad decison making at time, is being overloaded by the coaches.

just because his brother is a football genius doesnt mean he is

El Padrino said...

what's even more disgusting was the defense that stopped them twice only to have a penalty (hit out of bounds, Frank Walker and the Kiwanuka sack that all but sealed the game)

El Padrino said...

Isiah Thomas said...

did Kiwanuka ever explain his play (non-play)? did he really think VY had thrown the ball?

THE CHAMP. said...

How can UM play ND in the Rose Bowl? Isn't it supposed to be a Pac-10 Big-10 game?

I'd like to see UM play Cal, Louisville or WV.

Shouldn't Boise State be at least 4 or 5?

anonymous said...

i will not watch a UM/ND matchup. any fan of CFB with a brain in their head would not want to see that game again.

(maybe thats why Herbstreit is predicting that though..)

ND has proved that they do not belong. accept it, golden domes. wonder what TJW's dad has to say about their season now.

anonymous said...

and the Steelers got routed, 27-0 by Baltimore.

just sayin, incase anyone missed that.

Los said...

It seems that ND can play in any bowl they want to, because they are Notre Dame.

Seriously, can anyone explain to me how a 2-loss team can still be playing in the BCS, especially considering that they didn't win a conference title game? Oh, wait, that's right, they did beat all of the military academies - so, maybe that's their "conference" championship.

temwr said...

1) All the Bowls can opt out of their traditional picks to choose ND if they want.

2) If USC goes to the big game then the Rose bowl will have to / get to choose a non pac 10 team anyway.

El Padrino said...

he thought VY had thrown the ball so he didnt want to draw the 15yd roughin the passer penalty

The Rev said...

"so this is what it's like to be a philly fan? ugh."

Wow!

I never thought I'd hear those words come out of a New Yorker's mouth, but yep... it's like that.

You know what the worst part of it was? I was actually sympathizing with the Giants fans at the end of that game.

I've always rooted against the Giants. I've never liked the Giants. But even I say that no group of real football fans deserves to see a loss like that.

The only reason the Giants may still get into the Wild Card is that the Eagles are worse off. But at least the Birds have somewhat of a built-in excuse with McNabb going down. Eli is flat out tanking.

Isiah Thomas said...

The Rev said...

I suggested it yesterday, and I am bringing it back today.

From here on out, I suggest we refer to "flipping the bird" from here on out as "flipping the Vick".

All in favor say aye!

ToddPacker said...

"Seriously, can anyone explain to me how a 2-loss team can still be playing in the BCS"

two loss teams play in BCS games all the time...especially if they upset another team in their conference championship game...Ark (2 losses) will be in BCS game if the beat UF...LSU looks like they could wind up in a BCS Game...the winner of the GT/WF ACC champ game will have two losses and go to a BCS...same for the Big 12 champ OK or Neb.

The Rev said...

Depends on how you look at it Zeke.

Somehow, the schedule makers decided to give the Eagles three straight weeks on the road against division opponents in December. Apparently, that hasn't happened to an NFL team since they aligned the divisions in 1970. That's what they pointed out last night.

Maybe the records aren't as high as the Giants have to face, but going on the road to Washington, Dallas, and NYC is going to suck major ass.

Isiah Thomas said...

Rev let me rephrase:

NYG have the toughest remaining schedule in the NFC lEast. * of teams who have a shot at the playoffs.

So between NYG and Dallas, NY has the tougher schedule.

I'm already chalking up Philly @ Was as a W for the Skins.

El Padrino said...

who knows, if giants beat Dallas next week they are 4-0 and would have beaten them twice.

So in fact, the division crown is still their's to lose.

temwr said...

bah reading SP and he says M. Irvin was the most important locker room presence in Dallas.

Seriously? Is this true? Didn't he used to do cocaine during his playing years and get busted for all sorts of shit? Aikman, Smith, they weren't bigger locker room guys than Irvin?

Am I missing something about Irvin here? How is he getting his knob slobbed by these national writers for being such a great locker room guy? Am I getting the things Nate Newton did and the things Irvin did mixed up?

temwr said...

There are 2 0 loss teams.
There are 6 1 loss teams.

And some of those 1 loss teams still might lose again. And one of them, Wisconsin, can't be in a BCS game because the BCS rules say at most 2 teams from one conference. That is why Wisc is in the Capital One Bowl.

Afar as ND as a 2 loss team in a BCS bowl which other 2 loss team would you choose ahead of them? The following is the bowl projections from cbssportsline. Which remaining 2 loss team would you choose over ND?

Title: OSU - USC
Sugar: FL - ND
Rose: UM - LSU
Orange: WF - UL
Fiesta: OU - BSU

Possible 2 loss replacements for ND (assumes FL beats Ark and Ark is a 3 loss team):
WVU (assuming they beat Rutgers)
Rutgers (assuming WVU loss)
Auburn
Virginia Tech
BYU
TCU
Hawaii

I'd have to say that the argument for ND is at least as strong as if not stronger than all of those teams. Now if Rutgers beats WVU then maybe Rutgers takes NDs spot. As much as it pains me to say, ND wins the spot by default.

I'd take any 2 loss team above ND. If logic such as "I don't wanna see em play" is used for the title game then it should be applied to ND as well. You guys can whine about it all you want, but Notre Dame has a lot of fans that are willing to travel. And that's all the BCS Bowls are about, getting people to spend money on tickets. So, no matter what you say, some BCS bowl is gonna pick up Notre Dame so they can make a buttload of money.

Tommy Johns surgery does save careers. It makes the ligament or tendon whatever they operate on tighter than it naturally is. This allows for more of a snap and harder throw. It really is a career extender.

The point is that it doesn't really matter if ND is good or not. The fans spend money, and that's all that matters to the BCS.

Isiah Thomas said...

freak no one debates that about ND's fan base.

But that then becomes the basis for ND fans belief in their team "we're a BCS team year in year out".

ND will always start the year ranked high. Throw in 8-10 wins vs spotty comp with a few decent losses and they get into the BCS top 10. Then they get ball dipped by whoever they play in the BCS.

FL and UL will make it in even if ND gets in. So you aren't choosing ND over either of those two. Taking Auburn or Rutgers over ND is a decent argument. Although I would have to say that Auburn didn't really play anyone good at all (ND at least played a good team, and got ball dipped twice). Rutgers has that win over Louisville, so that is nice...But in the end neither is a slam dunk choice over ND.

Still ND gets in by default. Sad but true.

i just told my boss (massive ND fan/alum) that he could come over and root for a winning team after their blowouts..

im not kidding you, this dude got super red faced and i thought he was gonna take a swing.

he was on fire. "well i didnt say anything when you guys lost". (yeah, except like ALLLL last year, and then up until we beat them, he talked shit).

i responded "20 points and 26 points are blowouts. we lost by 3. you guys got blown out, again."

"oh well there was garbage points at the end"..

keep it in denial buddy! (but seriously, i thought this 60yr old man was gonna cry and/or choke me. i could see the hate in his eyes.

i dont think i helped it by printing the box scores of the UM and USC games and sticking them to the outside of his cube.

I can't knock the cube thing, I know some people rolling in the $$$ that have cubes at Chase. So if iam works at a big company the cube doesn't suprise me.
