Suicide Pool results and other business

First off, let's do what we gotta do.

WHO'S IN
Cam - Colts
ElP - Chiefs
Temwr87 - Falcons
Los - Cowboys
Spaceman - Cowboys
Bryan - Browns
Eric - Cowboys
Thejaywhite - Eagles

WHO'S OUT
Ebntx - Jaguars
Iam - Vikings

You know what's interesting, or not too interesting in this case... I would write the little categories below about Gutsiest Call of the Week, etc. However, I didn't really view any of these picks as overly gutsy. The Colts should be a good pick any week now. The Chiefs had a staggering SF team to play. The Falcons were handed an Arizona team with a QB controversy stewing. The Cowboys, who were the biggest bandwagon, had a bad Tennessee team. The Browns had the team everyone loves to pick against. And the Eagles were at home against a bad Green Bay team.

Even the ones who lost... the Vikings should have handled the Bills, and it was right to think Jacksonville would whip Washington. In fact, I would name Jacksonville the Killer of the Week probably because I'm sure Ebntx wasn't alone in thinking Jax would roll.

So I shortened the whole post suicide pool categories thing this week. It was too easy. Maybe next week it gets interesting.

By the way... if anyone wants to show some week 5 guts, pick any NFC East team this week. I dare you, especially this week where 7 of the games might be considered easy pickings.

Seriously, this week coming up has too many games where there is a clear favorite going in. True, it's the NFL and anything can happen any given Sunday. But I don't think anyone is going to have a tough time finding a game to ride this week.

Onto more current news...

- You know, I dislike the Yankees as much as anyone here. There's no question. But last night as I was watching some of the game, they showed the Yankee lineup and next to each name they showed how many all-star games they had been named to for each player. Perhaps you saw it. And it didn't fail to impress me. I mean, we all know what the Yankees have, but to see it in plain black and white just struck me as amazing. I actually found myself shaking my head in some disbelief that a lineup could be put together like that for October. It is awesome.

With that being said... please, let them lose game 2 tonight and give the Tiger fans a chance to see their team at home with a 1-1 split. Really, that would make my night if that happened.

- While we are at it, I saw the highlights in a clip on the WWL's website, and one of the Sportscenter knobs, don't know who it was, caled Giambi's homer last night a "Yankee Crankee".

I vote that anyone who ever uses the term "Yankee Crankee" again gets a ball dip.

- So, with the season getting under way tonight, how would you like to see my NHL Preview for 2006-2007?

No? You still don't care?

OK, moving on....

- This is all I will say on the game this coming weekend between the Eagles and the Cowboys, and this is all I will say about TO...

As an Eagles fan, I'm worried about this game. And it has nothing to do with TO's presence on the field.

No, I'm worried because the Eagles are too beat up right now. A healthy Eagles team steamrolls the Cowboys at home. I believe that.

An Eagles team with this many injuries... I don't know.

But for the record, while many of you despise the Yankees as your most hated team, and I see why, let it be known that I consider the Dallas Cowboys the most despicable franchise on the face of the Earth. Really, I despise them with every bone in my body. I even think their cheerleaders are ugly. Seeing the star on the side of the helmet makes me throw up in my mouth.

No offense to the real Cowboy fans on this board, but your team can go die for all I care.

- While we are at it, this is what I would blow $3500 on this weekend, if I could afford to blow $3500.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140035737681

And I would only do it just for the joy of kicking Jay Novacek and Tony Dorsett out of my house while letting Keith Byars and Seth Joyner stay for the game.

Well, OK. Dorsett can stay. He's at least a better autograph to have. Novacek would have to leave. Or at least go out and fetch pizza.

Enjoy your Hump Day.

this was from the last thread...

when they showed that old time Yankee pic last night, the guy sitting between Mantle and Bera looked EXACTLY like A-Rod. I though it was a photo-shop deal at first. Weird.

F the yankees on everything.. my hate is buuuuuurning this morning.

man law thing.. i would pay that if the players they were bringing were worth it...

200 million payroll.. kiss my ass. best team money can buy. and if they lose somebody after this year, theyll just get someone through bullshit trades or just buy them straight up.

Isiah Thomas said...

the Cowboys WR's will torch Philly's DB's healthy or not.

Even with all the injuries, Philly should be able to get some pressure on Bledsoe.

The Rev said...

There's a list of future games on the Man Law series on ebay. They have more players scheduled in future weeks.

And this week looks like the coolest week. Whether you hate the Cowboys or not, having Tony Dorsett show up at your house is a great thing. I can at least respect him. And for me, Seth Joyner and Keith Byars are way cool.

Novacek would be outside mowing the lawn.

The Rev said...

Cowboys WR might be better than Philly's DB's, but a healthy Lito Sheppard with Sheldon Brown at least gives them some fits and slows them down a bit. With Joselio Hanson starting, it's scary to me.

Pressure on Bledsoe is a must. If we don't get it, we are dead. Last year, we didn't get any pressure on him in the two games and he shredded the secondary. Bledsoe can be a good QB when things are perfect for him to operate.

Isiah Thomas said...

Lito Sheppard is overrated. Badly.

The Rev said...

This is what I love about NFC East fans...

The Eagles fans hate the Giants, and they hate the Skins. The Skins fans hate the Giants and hate the Eagles. The Giants fans hate the Eagles, and hate the Skins. But in some way, we respect each other.

Why do we respect each other? Because we all hate the Cowboys equally, and we don't respect them at all.

Really, if it comes down to the Giants or Skins playing the Cowboys, I find myself rooting a little bit for the Giants or Skins in those games, unless the game has playoff implications for the Eagles somehow.

Fuck the Cowboys!!! Fuck em long and hard with a splintery broomstick up their collective asses!

Isiah Thomas said...

I can't wait to see how this weeks NFC bEast games shake out.

Philly has beaten teams they were supposed to (ie. crappy teams) and gakked it up against their only good matchup.

Dallas has looked pretty solid so far.

NYG have also looked solid in spurts but shaky at other times.

Ditto for the Skins. If they protect like they did vs Jax and keep that O rolling and can get the D in line they will be right back in this thing.

The Rev said...

Ouch, Zeke!

Maybe Lito is slightly overrated. I like him ,but I won't dispute that. But I stil want him in the lineup as part of the overall D over Joselio Hanson right now. At least Lito can keep someone honest.

And don't forget... if any guys know how to play agaisnt TO, it would be the Eagles DB's, namely Sheppard and Brown. They practiced against him too many times. Joselio Hanson did not. He would be outmatched severely if he had to face TO.

Isiah Thomas said...

if you're a betting man put money on the Rangers to win a WS here shortly, Buck Showalter was fired.

Isiah Thomas said...

I was mainly going off of stats from KC Joyner, he analysis shows Sheppard isn't that good.

The Rev said...

"Dallas has looked pretty solid so far."

Really? You think that Jacksonville game was solid?

The Eagles need to be tested. I give you that. But I say that the Eagles outplayed the Giants for most of that game. I will always say that.

That loss was the Eagles fault, no question. The Eagles lost it more than the Giants won it.

The Rev said...

I know Sheldon Brown is the better of the two DB's than Lito Sheppard. Beleve me, I know.

Isiah Thomas said...

each team in the NFC East has had their crappy moments Rev. None worse than the Eagles vs the Giants though.

El Padrino said...

good point rev

The knife, about 10 to 12 inches long, punctured Borchert's lung, Blakely said. "At first, the victim didn't know he had been stabbed," the sheriff said. "He thought he had been hit. I wouldn't have bet a plugged nickel he would have lived. He went to the hospital with the knife still in his back."

Isiah Thomas said...

Dallas 31
Philly 17

TO 4 Catches 90 yds 1 TD

The Rev said...

ElP... I agree. I look forward to Giants and Skins games. The Cowboys I just despise and want to see beaten.

The GB game... The Birds sould have had three TD's in the first half. Again, it was more of the Eagles fucking up than GB outplaying. And I know better than anyone that woulda coulda shoulda doesn't matter. If the Queen had balls, she'd be King.

The two fumbles, the first one was charged to McNabb. He put the ball too high for Buckhalter. I agree the second one was a good D play.

If the Eagles don't beat themselves, which I am seeing them prone to do, they will be OK.

And yes, I do agree that the Eagles gacking it up to the Giants was the worst. I was demoralized for a week after that.

I didn't even talk about Rod Hood. His injury is the reason we have to lean so much on Joselio Hanson. So yes, it is very significant.

anonymous said...

what the hell does a 'plugged nickle' mean?

Don't do that to me Zeke.

I'd rather talk about the Republicans than discuss the Cowboys.

In fact, give me a choice between hanging out with a Republican or a Cowboys fan, I'm picking the Republican.

Isiah Thomas said...

thats a disturbing trend Rev, if your team is constantly fucking up like that....

against good teams that will keeeel you.

Isiah Thomas said...

how about a Republican Cowboy fan? YEEEE HAWWWWW

El Padrino said...

he should fake to pop pills than collapse as if he overdosed

Isiah Thomas said...

alright I'll jinx my squad:

Skins : 27
Giants : 24

The Rev said...

I'll have to tell this story sometime.

I'm not a violent man by nature. Really, I don't believe in fighting. I rarely if ever get into scuffles.

But the Dallas Cowboys once almost made me want to trash an entire bar.

Isiah Thomas said...

if the Skins get that D right they can reel off 5 or 6 in a row....

The Rev said...

Republican Cowboy fan... oh, there's a lot of them, for sure!

Isn't GW a Cowboy fan? He owned the Texas Rangers. I would think he probably has some rooting interest in the Boys too.

Wait a minute... GW ain't even a real Texan.

The Rev said...

"thats a disturbing trend Rev, if your team is constantly fucking up like that"

And no one agrees with that more than me.

I've been disturbed many times.

anonymous said...

my buddy has to a halloween competition that awards money for first prize.

i told him to go as TO, with a big pillowcase full of pills.

yay or nay?

EP.. the Lions best chance to win is against GB, and they blew that.. the next chances are SF, AZ, Miami, and GB again.

if they win those first 3 in a row, they will go apeshit around here as if they beat someone worthwhile. i wish i was a journalist around here so i could just continually write hate stories about the lions.

los, you just listed the Prides of America, yet the world would be MUCH better without...

By the way... our cheerleaders are way hotter than yours.

http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/cheerleaders/home.jsp?id=30770

And if you don't believe that the Eagles cheerleaders are hotter than Dallas, I have two words for you... lingerie calendar!

Our cheerleaders take the calendars to the next level. Not only are our cheerleaders hotter, they dress in sluttier outfits. It's a win all around.

Next year, I fully expect the Eagles cheerleader calendar to include soft porn girl on girl action.

Dallas cheerleaders are so 1979.

El Padrino said...

bears/colts/jags = lock

Isiah Thomas said...

This is what I've got locked up so far:

Det +17/Bucs +16.5/Jets +17

Ravens +4

Jags -1/Chiefs +2.5

Pats (pick)/Bears -1/Panthers+1.5

Vikes -7/Chiefs -3.5/Chargers -3.5

I got these in when the lines first came out. The last is a parlay for low money but a big payout, the rest are teasers and Balt straight up.

anonymous said...

and EP, i feel your pain in regards to this... we both had hot teams that fumbled here at the end of the year. you just dont get to see them fulfill their full potential, after all this time.

i know we're not mean to win it this year by any stetch, but i just hope they at least get to show a little of the sparkle that they've had. just put your best foot forward instead of being stomped out (which everyone in the world is waiting for).

watching the Tigs vs that lineup is like feeding your young to wild animals and all you can do is watch. just painful..

Isiah Thomas said...

Rev I had the exact opposite thought when they zoomed in on the Philly cheerleaders on MNF. Some real St. Bernards on that squad.

Granted most NFL cheerleaders are hot to a degree, its just different degrees. Its not like HS Cheerleaders where there are always one or two on the squad who have great "personalities" but don't know when to say when at the buffet.

ebntx said...

yes, we all know about the calendar...i'll admit it is a good thing.

ebntx said...

yet i have to admit, that dallas girls dont have to dress less to have someone look.

The Rev said...

Philly is -1 against the Boys I see.

Might as well be a pick em.

Isiah Thomas said...

Rev I heard McNabb broke his ankle last night playing at home with his dog - have you heard this?

The Rev said...

Dallas girls are too snotty to dress less.

Really, from what I hear, Dallas is the Beverly Hills of Texas. Am I right?

It ain't even really a Texas city. It's like they built it in California and moved it piece by piece.

Then again, I've never been there. Just going on what I heard.

The Rev said...

Um, no.

I have not heard this.

anonymous said...

i think the DC cheerleaders may have a couple girls that have a "peak hotness" which is higher than any girl on the PE squad, but overall, i gotta say Philly has the more consistent hotness.

they are the more evenly balanced team, i would say.

and good pitching beats good hitting, and Dallas has a couple of dudes too. take that analogy how you will...

ebntx said...

I'll be looking into that possiblilty next year for mine. I want Eagles cheerleaders making out with each other all over my party bus.

anonymous said...

i want an invite to that Bach party if it goes down. i will pay a cover to get in.

Isiah Thomas said...

Rev does Philly have any press conferences scheduled for today. This McNabb story has some legs from what I've heard.

The Rev said...

Wait a minute here...

I am currently listening to Philly sports radio. If this McNabb story were true, they would be all over it like a fat kid eats cake.

I've heard nothing about it.

Isiah Thomas said...

thats what I thought but Peter King-guy here is reporting this....

Isiah Thomas said...

use your pull and call the Eagles and find out for me.

The Rev said...

I'm feeling like my leg is being pulled here.

Cam said...

I hate the Cowboys (die hard 9ers fan), and I just moved to Texas, 30 miles east of Dallas. It's like hell down here. Cowboys players in commercials for lasik surgery. Cowboys merchandise all over every store. Cowboy talk everywhere. People talking about the Cowboys and saying stuff like "Bledsoe is a qb that can take US to the superbowl". The Rev said...

Donovan McNabb had a press conference today. I just heard clips of it on the radio. Most normal press conference ever. First thing he said was... "No TO questions today".

All is well.

Believe me... ESPN is camped outside the Eagles training complex all week. There's a blog on the official website with everything going on today, and I mean everything. Every press conference today is getting max coverage. Any potential news would be all over the place in seconds. The media is that entrenched in South Philly over this game.

It's a circus around here.

Plugged nickel:

Back in the day (1800s) coins were made of actual silver and people would take out the valuable center and plug it with lead. So, a plugged nickel would be such a nickel and it would be worthless because all of the valuable metal would be gone and replaced with lead or something. So not betting a plugged nickel means you wouldn't have even bet something that was worthless.

I have a friend who used to work at Field of Dreams in the mall, and through him I got a Pete Rose autographed hat and bat, plus a Marcus Allen autographed Raiders mini helmet.

JFreak said...

Oh, that soccer game story reminds me of another one. I was a referee for this kids game, and Chris Thomas (former point guard for Notre Dame) came on the field and messed around during halftime. Oh, and he also went to my high school. Along with Robert Vaden. And Greg Oden went to my rival high school.

JFreak said...

Real stupid play by Torii Hunter.

Dove for a ball that he couldn't have caught. Ball rolled all the way to the wall, inside the park home run.

4-2 A's

Ahmad Brooks, LB UVA and now of the Cincy Bengals is prob the highest profile athlete to come out of my HS. Though its only been around for 15 yrs or so.

weird
it's been awhile since they've been here, first time for the kids

temwr said...

Eddie Drummond and Willie Clay are from my HS. Not too bad for a HS that has graduating classes of about 55.

temwr said...

I played ball with Eddie. Great kid. He was a freshman when I was a senior. He was mad fast.

jugdish said...

Drummond...wasn't he on Different Strokes??

Are you going to be posting comments, running diary style?

I have no problem with anyone saying Vegas is better than AC. I've never done Vegas. But I want to. I imagine it is amazing.

AC is getting better. The Borgata is amazing. And I've been to the Tropicana many times. They did the Trop up nice. And they are remodeling some of AC to get out the urban blight.

They had to upgrade AC all around. Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun were taking their business. I think AC will improve.

But it will never be Vegas.

As far as the celebrity stuff... I have my moments. I'm just an autograph collector who's been lucky. But my friend is living a dream. I just talked to him and he was in another Sopranos scene in AC today. And he got to talk today with the big man, James Gandolfini. That's a big DAMN worthy thing right there.

As Zeke said, my story is on my blog.

Drummond is the kick returner for the Lions.

I went to Vegas when I was 14. I don't think that counts.

Re: rev's comment...
"And they are remodeling some of AC to get out the urban blight."

that is a great way to put that... detroit also has alot of urban blight that needs to be erased.

temwr said...

I've been to Vegas once, but never with anyone near my age. I need to go again, I could tell I missed out on so much.

I hear ya, ElP.

I don't think I will make it to Vegas before I get married though. I'm in hoarding all the money you can mode before the wedding now. I can't spend much until next year.

I will surrender my nuts now.

ToddPacker said...

My two brothers and a bunch of our friends have been going for the first weekend of march madness the last 4 years. I still haven't made the trip with them. Something always seems to come up.

El Padrino said...

temwr said...

You can't spend much again...ever.

Vegas pays for itself, just make sure to bet on black. That's what Wesley Snipes always says and I believe him.

Spaceman Spiff said...

thats also why we got pummelled, whites and mexicans on a bball team aint gonna stop shit like tyson chandler

anonymous said...

how about the worst celebrity sighting?

Dane Fife is from Clarkston, MI and we used to go to his high school games. Fife was a starting guard at Indiana around Bobby's kickout. he coaches somewhere now.

the best part of his games is when all the "urban blight" rolled into town with their And1 show, and thought they were gonna show "country boy" how to REALLY hoop.

then he would hang his nuts on them after a dunk, and everybody in the homies section would put the hand to the mouth and go "ooooooooooh". then, a small shoving match would ensue in the stands, and game over.

white boy could actually hoop. and play mad D, which would piss off the flashy "stars" from the city schools.

Spaceman Spiff said...

but we did dominate football a couple years, and the QB of the team (CB at oregon) in my year got drafted by the Bucs last draft, then was cut on last day of cuts

jugdish said...

Beltran walks...there goes Lowes perfect game!

temwr said...

I went to IU when Fife was there. He stepped on my foot at a soccer game. He said he was sorry.

I didn't know Fife counted as a celeb though.

El Padrino said...
