El Padrino's Weekly Betting Column

I've decided that I will write a forward to each betting column from here on out. Something usually small but not limited and most of the time it will be about sports. All kind of sports. Even Pro Wrestling.

Whoa. A team that won 83 regular season games might win the show.
3-1--- not for nothing but now is not the time to play shoddy defense Detroit.
As far as Zumaya goes, the harder he throws the farther the ball will go.
I'm convinced if that was a 95 instead of 100, Monroe catches that ball.
Here's to hoping Detroit gets it back to Comerica for at least game 6.

It's not too early to talk NFL draft is it? What do you think?

IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU THINK!

This is my day dammit.

I think Marshawn Lynch will be the best back available. I've watched most of Cal's games and even though there are other backs who are better statistically, we all know that doesn't always transpire into being a good pro (see Ron Dayne). He has power and speed. Reminds me of Stephen Jackson.

NBA talk for a minute....If you think the Knicks are going to be terrible again, your half right. They may be, but they may be a surprise in the EAST and may even challenge for a 7 or 8 seed in the playoffs. That's if Zeke runs the team the way he should. Fast, up-tempo basketball similar to the way the Suns play. They have shooters, slashers, and passers. Only Eddy Curry and Jerome James slow them down. Think about it. Yes I'm a Knick fan but I'm being real here. That's all I got on the NBA cuz I know we got a guest spot coming up with a preview and I don't want to take anything away from it.

Does Ed Werder sleep?
Is it me or does John Clayton pop a boner everytime he talks football? I bet he's a virgin.

Holyfield fights Nov 11 against a big spanish dude. Why? And it's pay-per-view.
Is anyone ordering this?

Jobing.com? WTF? Way to go Arizona. Imagine the Coyotes have a real good year and make it to the NHL finals........
LIVE FROM JOBING.COM STADIUM!!!!
THE NHL FINALS ON ABC!!!! (cue John Mellencamp crapola).
What a disaster.
Jobing.Com Stadium

Ok I'm done for now, onto the picks.
========================================
COLLEGE

OREGON St. (+12) over Usc
Usc is abysmal against the spread this year. This means either one of two things. Either play in the Pac10 has improved or USC is overated. I choose the latter. They have not dominated lately. In fact, they are college football's New England Patriots. Just winning. Which is ironic cuz Pete Carroll coached NE years back (Hi Bill) ($25)

WISCONSIN (-21) over Illini
48-17 final. I have nothing else to add here. ($100)

Florida (-14) over Georgia
Two weeks to prepare for a not so good Georgia team and coming off a loss to Auburn....
Florida might whip up on these dawgs pretty bad. I expect to see alot of Timmy Tebow.

PROS

PANTHERS (-5) over The Romo's
Two words for you. Romo time! A short week of preperation for Julius Peppers and co. Granted they are not the best defense but they are pretty damn good at sacking the QB. and I don't think John Fox is going to get out-foxed by an undrafted shitstain from Eastern Carolina, Div II ball. ($50)

TITANS (-3) over Texans
Vince Young with two weeks of prep work. Texans happy that they won last week. This is like the first time in a long time that the Titans are home favorites. Let's see if they come through. ($25)

Colts (+2) over BRONCOS
Colts are getting points for the first time since 2003. Only other time they have gotten points have been when they have already clinched and Jim Sorgi was the 2nd half QB. You want to know what happen when they got points back in 03'? They won outright both times. Let's see how good that Bronco defense is. ($50)

Rams (+9) over CHARGERS
Rams, feisty, playing well under first year coach, two weeks to prepare a gameplan for Tomlinson and Bulger playing real well. 9 points is too much. I'll gladly be a sucker and take them. ($40)

Packers/Cardinals over 44 ($35)

Just Teasing

Rams +21
Jets +14
Colts +14
Bears +3

El Padrino's record is knotted at 34-34-1.

EP

Gators over the Dawgs by 14...I'm not sure.
It looks like it's going to be a rainy day in Jax on Saturday. Plus the underdog always seems to rise to the occasion in this rivalry game. I like Florida to win but I'm not sure about the 14 point cover.

I’m bailing out of work early to head up to Jacksonville. It’s about a 3 1/2 hour ride for me, but well worth it. "The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party" is everything it’s cracked up to be and then some.

Dear Detroit Tigers,

Spring training ended months and months ago. Please adjust your play accordingly.

Sincerely,

Everybody who would like to see a competitive World Series.

temwr said...

I feel bad for Tigers fans who watched their team do great all year and then make errors on plays that most American males could make in high school.

temwr said...

Oh and all Domincan males could make when they were 10.

Thanks to the Chevy Subete. It was there training pitchers on how to throw to places other than home plate.

anonymous said...

im telling you.. this is the Bizarro Tigers.

temwr said...

Maybe they are just making it interesting. Letting the Cards go up 3-1, just so they can storm back.

At least that is what Tigers fans are hoping.

The Rev said...

The jobing.com thing reminds me of the original name of Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts.

At first, they were going to call it CMGI Field. A local software company named CMGI had bought the naming rights in 2000 for the opening in 2002.

Well, a few weeks before the home opener during the NFL preseason of 2002, CMGI ran into serious money trouble. They had to give back the naming rights. They scrambled for a new name, and Gilette then stepped up.

Thank God they did. I'd much rather call it Gillette Stadium than CMGI Field.

But at the time, they had to reprint everything in a hurry. I think a few CMGI Field soda cups got out into the public's hands.

That's what happens when you trust your stadium's name to technology. Go with a name you can trust. You'll never have to reprint anything.

If Scott Rolen wins a World series with the Cardinals, that will be it.

Phillies fans will go into mass hysteria. First we had to watch Curt Schilling win two without us, now this.

Please, Detroit! Pleeezzzzeee don't let this happen to us! We can't take it anymore.

You can win three in a row. Take game 5, and at least you have the luxury of having the remaining two in your house.

temwr said...

I don't even know what jobing.com is. It sounds like a porn site.

The Rev said...

It's a local job board, like Monster.com

Probably has the same crappy jobs that Monster has as well.

temwr said...

Does anyone know anyone who has gotten a job through one of those job board websites? I have never met anyone who has.

El Padrino said...

skunkpatch beleives in romo

um no shit sp- he is like 46

The Rev said...

I've tried them off and on for a year.

I've gotten interviews, but never a job.

The Rev said...

Actually, I recently got a contract position as backup PA announcer for the Philadelphia Kixx of the Major Indoor Soccer League. Which means if the regular PA announcer needs a game off, I get the first call to go to the Spectrum and fill in. I hope to get a couple of games.

I didn't get that job through a job board, but I did get the original contact through one. So maybe that counts. But it's only a twice a year job if that.

ToddPacker said...

Naming stadiums after crap like websites, banks, ketchup or cell phone companies is stupid. I wish somehow major league sports would stop being so greedy and put an end to it.

Keep it simple like Dodger Stadium, Yankee Stadium, Soldier Field or the Superdome.

Wrigley and Busch are OK because at one point I think those companies actually were owners of the team.

El Padrino said...

gone are the days of stadium names that mean something

The Rev said...

I knew a guy that owned porn website domains. I used to joke with him about that. I told him he should have paid to get one of his domain names on what is now Gillette Stadium.

We would have all been going to Fuckpost.com Field.

Martin VanNostrand said...

That had some LLLLL's in there that blogger deleted.

The Rev said...

I'm working on it MV.

I've got to go to a game soon on my own and get the timing of the announcing down. I'll be listening to how the regular guy does it. Maybe I'll add a touch of my own to it.

The Rev said...

I'm looking forward to the first time I get to yell on a power play (indoor soccer has power plays like hockey)...

"And the Kixx are going on the
PEEEEECOOOOOOO POWER PLAY!"

PECO sponsors all the power plays of the Flyers, the Phantoms, and apparently the Kixx.

whocares said...

Backup PA announcer for minor league indoor soccer?

Sooooomebody's hit the big time!!!

Isiah Thomas said...

there was a bit of an uproar about the U of Phx name on the stadium. Apparently the City of Glendale (PHX 'burb) was the only place to show the Cards some love when it was new stadium time. G'Dale was hyped that they'd get a little boost of exposure from having the NFL there....then they put PHX on the name.

Jobbing.com Stadium is just stupid. Dumb.

Isiah Thomas said...

so there is minor league indoor soccer, that means there is major league indoor soccer?

Isiah Thomas said...

Rev pull a Bob Eucker in Major League "ahh shit no one's listening anyway"

I encourage everyone to take a quick look at the WWL.com's main page and look at the headlines on the right.

"Gay in control at Chrysler"

ToddPacker said...

Rev, do you actually use a PA system for announcing at a MISL game or do you just walk around and talk to the other 6 people there.

The Rev said...

I start the game with...

"Good evening Bob, Joe, Mary, and Jenn... nice to see you again. Here are the starting lineups."

And it is the Major Indoor Soccer League.

ToddPacker said...

Is that article about Jeter test driving a new car?

Dikembe Meiztombo said...

MISL is major league. Milwaukee Wave representin'! League Champs 2 years ago, in the finals last year.

The Rev said...

Which is funnier?

The fact that a headline says "Gay in control at Chrysler"?

Or the fact that the headline directly next to it says "Barron goes shirtless"?

Isiah Thomas said...

I'm not a big South Park fan but this is funny.

They invited me to the team introduction party for season ticket holders this past Tuesday, and I did get a Kixx bobblehead out of the deal. I got free food and watched a scrimmage. Also got to meet the player-coach, Don D'Ambra, who happened to be the guy who's bobblehead I was given.

This marks the first time I have ever talked to an athlete while holding his bobblehead. That's a first in my life.

And one of the babes on the dance team threw me a t-shirt, but it was a Youth Medium. I can't even get that around my arm.

They are letting me have tickets to a game in a few weeks so I can get a feel for the announcing and what needs to be said when.

Gear. I got set of second hand mizuno irons from a tag sale. Re-gripped them and they're great. Not sure of the model. Bought a Wilson driver from Walmart with a head the size of the death star on it. Have no idea what kind of putter is in my bag.

It will be interesting to see how the Washington coaches handle the quarterback situation when the club resumes play on Nov. 5 after this weekend's bye. Word is that second-year quarterback Jason Campbell, a first-round pick in 2005 who is still waiting to throw his first pass in a regular-season game, took virtually all the first-unit snaps this week. But that might have been because starter Mark Brunell, who continues to look old and used-up, is ailing and needed some time off.

There's going to come a time, unless Brunell and the offense promulgates a miraculous turnaround, and quickly, when the Redskins' staff is going to have to get Campbell some playing time. At the behest of coach Joe Gibbs, who fell in love with Campbell before the '05 draft, owner Dan Snyder traded away three draft choices to Denver to acquire the extra first-round pick he needed to snatch the former Auburn star. If, indeed, Campbell is the franchise's quarterback of the future, the Redskins can't continue to let him rot from idleness. Especially not with Brunell playing as poorly as he has. Despite the increased workload this week, no one has even suggested to Campbell that he will be the starter when the Redskins get back onto the field for their Nov. 5 home game against the Dallas Cowboys. Still, there is a sense that a change is coming sooner rather than later.

I am so cool.

They should rename this shit The Worst Series. this shit was awwwwful. who wants to see a team as shitty as the Cards win? and only win because a team handed it to em? the tigers ruined 2 teams' perfectly good seasons. they shouldve lost to the yanks or a's instead of show up like this. i apologize to those teams which mightve actually wanted to PLAY in the series. they shouldve never been there.

if you total up earned runs vs unearned runs, would the cards have even been in it? did they score ANY of their own runs?

and when you start touting jeff weaver as an mvp candidate, then its probably time to close up shop.

that shit makes me want to stop rooting for teams and stop watching sports altogether. i should never invest myself in a team again.. just dont ever care. thank you tigers, you have taken away hope when hope was needed.

I'm convinced someone upstairs has it in for me. As if it wasn't bad enough I had to see the White Sox win the WS last year, now the Cards win it. WTF??

I feel bad for my Pops who is a MI native and lifelong Tigers fan. He said he hadn't watch much of the playoffs bc he didn't want to jinx them. I bought him a new Tigers lid and ALCS winning shirt. I wish they woulda won for him.

Isiah Thomas said...

sorry but every time I hear Peter Gammons talk its sad. He's not as bad as Dick Clark but you can hear how different he is from what he was.

Its great he came back and is healthy but damn he doesn't sound good.

Isiah Thomas said...

after watching the highlights on SC.....

who knew Preston Wilson talked like Carlton Banks?

What are the chances that the Colts or Bears finisht out the season with a perfect 16-0 record?

I want to see this happen in my lifetime. I wasn't around when Miami did it.

Stiggy said...

That's true, it must be someone downstairs.

Please don't jinx the Colts.

The end of last year it was the only thing talked about and people kept saying, "I think they can do it." Screwed 'em over.

This is like going to a pitcher before the 9th inning and saying, "I see you have a perfect game going. It would really suck to lose it now."

Stupid Sean Salisbury.

Isiah Thomas said...

and enough ESPN with using the winning team name in your headline.

"In-Card-Ible" - wtf? That's retarded.

Isiah Thomas said...

Lee Corso needs a beady eye-ectomy. Pull those puppies out a little bit.

Isiah Thomas said...

why don't they let announcers who are calling a game make a pregame pick - case in point Herbstreit. WTF.

The guy can't pick a game he's announcings because it would show he's biased or rooting for one team over another? But they'll let him give BJ's to OSU every weekend? That doesn't show bias? WTF.

Indiana's one win away from a bowl.

Shocking!

Dikembe Meiztombo said...

No autodraft for me! Yeah, I'm a loser.

JFreak said...

USC lost.

Knew it was coming one of these weeks, they were living very dangerously. But it's still a little surprising.

Beth82678 said...

Ok jugdish,it's on. Expect a new high score on copter from me next week. :-)

And let me just say, today was probably Vick's best game I've seen him play. I think they said that's like 7 TD passes over the last 2 games. Who knew he could actually pass? I guess it took SG totally writing Vick off in his last column for Vick to show up.

Giants won today, so Bryan is safe in the suicide pool.

And currently Oakland leads Pittsburgh 7-0.

All I will say about the Eagles is that after today, I am convinced that the Eagles are mediocre. 4-4 is richly deserved for them now.

Sickening performance at home!
