Isiah Thomas - Dolphins

GUTSIEST CALL OF THE WEEK
I'll give it to Zeke. He waited until all the other picks were in. He could have gone with any one of the easy games. There were more than one shoo-in picks this week. But he stood on the island and took the Dolphins at home against a Bills team that had played New England tough the week before. It takes brass ones to make that call. It wasn't a dumb call either. You would expect the Dolphins to man up at home against a division rival.

But the call led to the...

KILLER OF THE WEEK
Being that Zeke is the only man who was eliminated this week, the Dolphins killed him and probably a few more people across America. However, I'm guessing that with a lot of easy games on the board in week 2, this was not the week across America where a lot of people got knocked out.

BANDWAGON OF THE WEEK
4 people picked the Ravens this week. 4 people picked the Colts. It was the perfect week to pick either team. But I give this title to the folks like me who picked the Ravens for two reasons. First off, I don't think the Ravens will be this solid a pick for the rest of the season, so I think you use a team like that now. Secondly, I can save the Colts for a pick later this year if I need. I think the Colts have another week in them where they will be a gimmie. In fact, week 5 for them looks like a gimmie now.

On top of all of that, the bandwagon is forming where you pick every team the Raiders are playing for as long as you can. They do have a fighting chance to go 0-16. But you can't do it in week 3 since it is their bye. No one will have the Raiders' opponent to fall back on this week. This week might weed a few people out.

And looking ahead at week 3... I don't see a clear cut gimmie this week. I don't even think picking against the Texans is a gimmie since they get to host a reeling Washington team.

Yep, I have a feeling week 3 is going to be the week where we get some knockouts. With a lucky number of 13 players left... it's on!

I loathe myself.

well i know one thing, Eagles should be pissed off enough not to lose to the 49ers....

that's my early favorite

Isiah Thomas said...

before week 1 I mapped out the first 5 weeks of teams I liked, I had the Ravens penciled in for week 2.

Like the dipshit I am I changed at the last minute and took MIA.

temwr said...

3 teams look good enough to me next week. Iggles, Ravens, Falcons.

All are on the road though.

I think the rev is right, we will have some people fall out this week.

El Padrino said...

dipshit

ravens for week 3 too....i havent used them yet

there's a guy in my office who thinks he's Peter King, both of the real NFL and Fantasy. I've avoided him all day bc he's the type of guy to say something smart and not in a smart ass type way but a "I'm better than you" type way.

If he mentions the Skins and my pick I might mail him an anthrax letter.

El Padrino said...

i hate guys like that
send him one anyway

Spaceman Spiff said...

anybody who is anything like petey king deserves nothing less than that

The Rev said...

I can't take the Eagles this week. They were my week 1.

I'm leaning Patriots, just because I think they are on a roll and don't lose in Foxboro.

The Rev said...

Also, I think the Pats owe Denver big time after the playoffs last year, and they are catching Denver in the midst of a QB controversy.

Hey, I have a question to throw out for opinions. I only occasionally listen to talk radio cause they always over-react positively and negatively (btw, if you listen to it around here you might think the Falcons are going 16-0), but this question is stolen from local talk radio.

Who is the best 2-0 team and who's the worst 0-2 team? The 2 local guys chose Ravens and Chargers as the best and Bucs and Raiders as the worst. Personally, I'd go with Chargers and Raiders.

And I gotta give a mention to the Falcons after this weekend, although having to settle for 4 field goals and then missing all 4 isn't a great sign. Say goodbye to the combined punter/kicker duties as I'm sure they'll get a real kicker this week or next. But Vick is making me eat my words - he's playing to his strengths and doesn't seem to care that his passing yards look anemic as long as they're winning. Good for him.

Oh, and just to fit in here - ND SUCKS! :-)

Isiah Thomas said...

NE has struggled with the supposed 2 lesser rans of its division, I think they are in trouble, maybe not this week though.

Isiah Thomas said...

Top 2: Indy and ATL

Bottom 2 : Oak and Houston

Top 2:
Indy is still rolling, their lack of D will get them, but as of right now they are on cruise control and its only week 2.

ATL has 2 impressive wins against good teams.

Chi/SD/Balt - beat decent teams and they'll be in the mix.

Bottom 2
Oakland - if you don't know you betta ax someone. My GF has NO clue who the SG is and doesn't watch much football, but they showed the Balt/Oak game out here and when they showed Art Shell just standing there with a blank expression she goes "uhh, hellllooooo"

Houston - still smell like Big Foot's dick.

Spaceman Spiff said...

chargers look good playing those shitty teams, who will stop that falcons running game

The Rev said...

The Bucs are better than 0-2. They're not that great, but they should be better than 0-2.

And the Ravens are not an elite team. I think they will come back to earth a bit.

Atlanta talk show hosts don't sound like they are too smart.

temwr said...

TB defense is too good to call it the worst team. Their offense will come around.

I still expect a team to start 0-4 or 1-3 and make a serious playoff push. The Bucs are probably my favorite to do so. Of course I am a huge Bucs fan, so I am biased as all hell.

Oak sucks, all around. GB is not very good either. Nor are the Browns. Houston is bad too.

Ind and Atl look like the best two teams in the league. Although one can't run and the other can't pass. Go figure...

Beth82678 said...

I just figured Atlanta talk show hosts are like talk show hosts everywhere - full of hype in whichever direction will get people listening and calling. But I've never heard talk shows from other cities so I really have no reference point.

But right now we all want to believe the Falcons are for real, as opposed to where they went 6-2 to start last season and then died.

The Rev said...

My top two 2-0 teams are Indinapois and San Diego right now. New England is right up there with them.

San Diego is scary good right now. Maybe they lucked out getting Oakland and Tennessee at first, but they have been efficient in dispatching them.

Indianapolis is proving me wrong in my preview. I give credit where it is due, and they are proving that they don't miss Edgerinn James.

New England had to battle in their first two games, yes. But they were both division games against opponents that may be better than advertised. The two early division wins will only help them.

I think Atlanta has jumped up. Having Carolina implode early helps them And they also got an early 2-0 division record to help them. But Michael Vick will eventually kill them. It might not be until the playoffs, but it will happen. They are not the best 2-0 team in the NFC.

I don't care how bad or good they looked at first, the fact that Seattle is 2-0 means the title is theirs until someone takes it from them.

ebntx said...

based on what everyone has seen in these 2 weeks. who would you want your team to trade for right now, straight up for any player?

The Rev said...

The worst two teams... Oakland and Green Bay.

I actually think the Texans might win one this week. But don't hold me to it.

Isiah Thomas said...

as bad a team as GB is, they are still ranked 10th in run d.

The Rev said...

My player I'd trade for right now...

LaDainian Tomlinson.

El Padrino said...

best 2-0
Indy, Bears

0-2
Pack, Raiders

Spaceman Spiff said...

texans win this week? i certainly hope not.

i would trade for any QB with an arm, probly tom brady because i dont wanna watch peyton in the playoffs.

The Rev said...

Sports talk shows from New York, Boston, and Philly tend to be smarter. It's a Northeast US thing. I've heard shows in all of the cities. They all have great ones.

They all have idiots too. Hell, WIP in Philly has their idiot reactionary talk show hosts too. I didn't even want to listen to them today after the Eagles implosion.

who was it from the last thread about ND.. i think it was jfreak gettin his panties in a bunch.

duuuuuuuude, half my comments were about NBC and the hype they give em. plus, nobody cares about Cal, miami anf fsu are always overrated so we expected that.. but MUCH was made about ND being "the balls".. most glaringly by their NUMBER 2 ranking.. if thats not enough hype, i dont know what is.

i hope you enjoy "notre dame football on nbc" every saturday. ah yes, BigBro and his tv contracts shoving ND down our collective throats. and the mastermind charlie weis is always front and center on SC too. (granted he's a solid coach, but come on). oh, and just like NBC pointed out.. isnt it kool that Weis has had 2 Bradys? Tom Brady, and now Brady Quinn!! how funnay!!!!111 brady's bunch!11

but now, alas, they may choke on deeeeeeeez nutz!

The Rev said...

Chicago is better than originally advertised too, especially their offense. Again, I give credit. I bashed tem a bit, and they are proving me wrong.

But they have to prove to me they can do it outside of their division. Granted they looked like they had a cupcake schedule at first. But if teams like San Fran, Buffalo, and the Jets continue to be better than advertised it gives them a few more challenges.

Spaceman Spiff said...

But this is the most important question...

people still do mushrooms? I had no idea.

...besides, he has glaucoma. Leave the old man alone!

Rodney Dangerfield did weed til the day he died.

temwr said...

WVU could beat all of the teams in the Top 5.

Probably not consistently, but they could do it often enough. They are probably ranked right where they should be.

Of course I am a huge Eers fan, so my opinion is so biased it's not funny.

From the Nelson article:

"Also cited were Tony Sizemore, 59, of St. Cloud, Fla.; Bobbie Nelson, 75, of Briarcliff, Texas; Gates Moore, 54, of Austin, Texas; and David Anderson, 50, of Dallas."

These dudes have all been doing this stuff for at least 30 years. I can't even imagine the stuff they talk about when they are all high.

I love hindsight!

i wish i was hindsight

all i need is that sports almanac from 2020, back to the future style

temwr said...

based on what everyone has seen in these 2 weeks. who would you want your team to trade for right now, straight up for any player?

My team is Tampa Bay.

I'd want them to trade for:

Peyton
Tom Brady
Carson Palmer
Ben R
Tomlinson

They need a QB who doesn't suck and look like jake busey. and LT is awesome. I'd trade cadilac for any of those guys.

ebntx said...

tem-

i pity your bucs. i am a 'horns fan to the end, but i hated simms everyday that he was here. i would have started applewhite anyday of the week before him. his comeback win in the holiday win after simms fucked everything up proved exactly everyones point.

Isiah Thomas said...

hindsight is looking backwards, predicting or prognosticating is what you want.

temwr said...

Bruce Gradkowski will probably see some significant playing time by week 5.

He might be the next Shaun King. Rookie who leads the Bucs to the promised land and then never does anything again.

temwr said...

Yes as a super hero you would want super foresight.

We all already have super hindsight.

OU prez wants loss to Oregon voided.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2593369

Isiah Thomas said...

I wanted Nebraska's shared title with Michigan voided then bc the Neb guy kicked the ball illegally vs Missouri then the guy caught it for a TD. VOID IT.

Martin VanNostrand said...

OU prez must have been kicking it with Willie. That's crazy talk no matter how strong you think your evidence is. If OJ is a free man they are not getting that loss voided. Pats are not getting that loss to the Broncos in the playoffs thrown out and that game had more blown calls than a 900 number line.

The Rev said...

Proof that Pete Rose is the biggest whore in sports history!

Isiah Thomas said...

Pete Rose, eh

Didn't he bet on MLB games ...as a mananger, and not as a player?

So betting on games wouldn't preclude him from getting in the HOF as a player.

a buddy offered me Randy Moss for Eddie Kennision in our fantasy league. should i take the trade?

temwr said...

I'd have to say you make that trade.

Kennison has a crap QB now, Moss does too. But Moss is lots better.

Neither is a fantasy stud anymore...I'm not sure Kennison ever was.

take moss. brooks is out now and if they put in jeff george he loves to throw the long ball.

Dikembe Meiztombo said...

Take Moss, even if you don't play him.

temwr said...

Slow day around here today.

I think people are pumping up the Jags a little more than they should. The Steelers played bad and I don't think it was the Jags that made them play bad.

Jags=OK

Isiah Thomas said...

keep Moss.

thejaywhite said...

jeff george was cut..so it wont be him...

thisweek looks like a tough one in the suicide pool i got my pick but iwont release it early this time as i think i was copied by some of u chumps two weeks in a row now.

Isiah Thomas said...

who's up? who's got something? anything? anyone?

Dikembe Meiztombo said...

Fuck the Steelers. I hope they lose the rest of the games in the history of their franchise.

jugdish said...

I think the Jags are better than OK. They finished 12-4 last year, the opened the season with a win over the Cowboys...who are picked by many to go deep in the playoffs...then they completly shut down the defending Super Bowl champs, who had almost 2 weeks to prepare for the game. You don't shut down a team like the Steelers like that when you are just..."OK".

Not only that...the Jags secured two fantasy football wins for me in my money leagues!

THE CHAMP. said...

they cut jeff george? he was there only good player

Isiah Thomas said...

iam stepping up with a new post.

temwr said...

Nah, they are just OK.
