The Officially Unofficial LOV Suicide Pool Rules

Just posting these for the record...

Each week, all picks must be in by 5pm ET Friday. A page will be posted to post your picks here on Thursday. I will post it, or one of our fellow contributors can post it as well. But it will be marked as the official picks page. You may post your picks on the comments section of that page for them to be official.

In a week where there is an early Thursday game, all picks must be in by the time of kickoff of that game. The time of your pick will be posted automatically in the comments, and that will be the time we judge by.

If anyone needs to put in their picks in advance, they may e-mail them to mybigfatf_kinhead@yahoo.com and they will be included. This will also be allowed for several weeks picks in advance if special circumstances warrant.

However, everyone is strongly encouraged to post as many picks as they can publicly on the comments board. It is easier on me, and it gives us all a public record of who picked what. The e-mail will only be allowed for special cases, such as being away from a computer for several days or weeks. Besides, if you have to pick weeks in advance, it does put you at a disadvantage. So being on schedule week to week with your picks on the board is better for you anyway.

After all picks are in, they will be reposted on the blog as a list for easy reference.

If you don't get your pick in on time, you're out. Simple enough.

After the week's games, we will post an update as to who is in or who is out. And those people will continue.

Rules of a suicide pool are simple if you don't know already. You pick one NFL team a week to win their game. All games will be straight up, which means you are not picking against the spread. Your team either wins the game or loses outright. If you win, you move on to next week. If you lose, you are out for good. You may not pick the same team twice in a season, which means if you pick a team one week, you are forbidden from using them again. Last one standing wins.

If we get down to two players, and it happens that in that week both players pick losing teams, it will be considered a push and both players will pick again the following week to decide a winner. If this somehow happens with three players or more left (which would be really tough to do), same thing applies. We go until there is a clear cut winner.

The winner will recieve a prize package. And I am here to announce that the prize package will include three items of sports memorabilia from my personal collection of my choosing. They will be announced later on, once I decide what they are. The winner can e-mail me their address at the end for receipt of the package.

In essence, we can rename this game to Win The Rev's Stuff. (It's just like Win Ben Stein's Money, except different.)

Any questions? Post them here.

And if you break any of the rules, you know what happens then...

Iamunstoppable will visit you, and deez nutz are deez nutz!

Enjoy the season!

No 2nd stringer is needed.

He must dip his own balls on his own chin...If he must cut his balls off to accomplish this then so be it.

i volunteer to be a ball dipper on the practice squad only

RE: Shanoff thoughts on Quinn over Peterson or vice/versa.

I'm sick of people saying QBs are not safe first round picks whereas RBs are.

I want to see some stats about how many first round RBs turn out to be busts. Everyone is so quick to point out 1st round QBs that suck but everyone forgets about 1st round RBs that bomb...Phillips, Carter, any Penn State RB really, Canidate, John Avery, Robert Edwards (injury), Tim Biakabatuka, Rashaan Salaam, James Stewart, many more.

So to everyone who says QBs are too risky in round 1 and that the Jets/Bills whoever should play it safe and go with a RB, well screw off because its not like RBs are safe picks either.

Isiah Thomas said...

I think Quinn will be a huge bust in the NFL. He wasn't that great before Weiss got there and he crapped the bed last weekend.

I'm not sold on him. Shanoff has an unhealthy obsession with some players. Has he explained why he got fired and/or why no one else picked up the DQ?

From the WWL to blogspot, take about taking a step back.

temwr said...

TO my knowledge no reason was given for him leaving/getting canned.

Seemingly he wants to write daily items though, so I don't think he left willingly.

It might be that he can't talk about how he left the WWL.

fox stepped up and gave catman a car. If you dont know the back story, fox played a prank and said during one game that they would be giving away a car, and they gave this guy(catman is like a die hard panthers fan that dresses p for every game) a toy car at the end. He thought it represented the car he would be getting and was genuinely grateful, since he was driving a chevy astro with six figure miles on it. Well a newspaper complained for him and now he will get a new f-150. I have a question, if you can afford season tix every season, i dont think he had crappy seat, and football is expensive, how can you not make payments for a decent car, like between 20-30K car?

whocares said...

Zeke,

I'm with you on the UT/OSU game being over-hyped. The media basically has a self created story. They voted them #1 and #2 just so they could hype a #1 and #2 matchup!! Was a #1 and #3 not good enough. I'm all for hating on ND, but they got screwed this week

F'n media.

Spaceman Spiff said...

doesnt matter, one will lose and notre dame will be top 3 again, they shouldnt be top 2 with that showing last week and then will play usc later in the year for the top 2 spot(if they are still undefeated at that point)

Isiah Thomas said...

but did he have 22's on the Astro...THAT is the question?

He could have 10's on there, but as long as he kept them clean...

look at the second feedback, classic

temwr said...

ND loses, Texas loses.

Top 4 becomes

OSU
USC
Auburn
WVU

temwr said...

I can see sacrificing the car for the season tix.

A 20k-30k car has payments of let's say $300 per month. That's $3,600 per year which should buy season tix for 8 (9 games if they do the thing where they make you pay for a playoff game)...and 300 might be a low estimate.

So new car or season tix, I can see going with the season tix.

Isiah Thomas said...

This saturday is a good day for college football.

Although the noonish lineup is poor.

After that it is PSU vs Notre Dame and then OSU vs Texas. I am excited for sports this weekend.

I am a big NASCAR fan too, but we are having people over for the OSU game (live in Columbus). Is it bad form to put on NASCAR during the OSU game after inviting people over to watch the OSU game? Perhaps I will have to get a small TV or something for the kitchen and put NASCAR on it. I'm sure I will need my Chase fix.

Spaceman Spiff said...

if ur having people over, i wouldnt switch the channel, especially if they are drunk.

Zeke - I know you said this about 12 hours ago, but I've been at work all day and just got a chance to read posts here...But in response to your comment about OSU/Texas, you said if it was on CBS then ESPN wouldn't be hyping it up as much....well of course they wouldn't, why would they advertise for another station? They would be all over the matchup, but you just wouldn't be seeing the game commercial 10 times an hour. There are numerous reasons why this game deserves the hype:
(1)A #1/#2 matchup hasn't happened in the regular season in about a decade, so this is a huge game, especially considering it's week 2 of the season. (2) This is a rematch of one of the best games of last year, where the winner went on to win the Nat'l Championship, and the loser went on to beat up on Notre Dame in Tempe (sorry thejaywhite). (3) You are talking about 2 of the biggest programs in the history of college football, teams that have a large following in every part of the country. But I know you're a Mich fan so I can see why you aren't that high on this game.

Isiah Thomas said...

big up to keith for get-n-r-done after hours....

I get ESPN wouldn't hype the game as much if it was on CBS.....

BUT...

I guess I've had enough of the "this will be the greatest game of all time" hype ESPN is putting out....

also, the 1 vs 2 is contrived this early in the season. This is big time on my radar and of course I'll watch.

I've got TX winning big, with OSU being unable to stop TX's run game.

So that's ND big and TX big.

ND (-7.5) vs PSU

Nice:
Oregon (-3.5) at Fresno St.

Nasty Dog (not real confident)
Minnesota (+8) at Cal

Other than being a HUGE Ohio State guy, here's why I think there's no way they lose this game. They've been waiting for this game since they lost this game last year. Jim Tressel is one of the top coaches when it comes to game preparation. UT has probably the best defense in the country, but if I was a Texas fan, I'd be worried about a freshman QB who is making his 2nd career start in a game this big. Plus, Mack Brown has never been known for getting the most out of his teams in big games. Without VY last year, they lose at least 2 games last year. I just don't see McCoy leading them to victory this time around.

From my main man Steve Czaban:
I’m constantly amazed at how any variety of undersized, undertalented WHITE wide receivers can THRIVE in this league, and yet not a single white TAILBACK exists. Last night, Wesley Welker made enough plays to make thousands of fantasy morons put him on their “add” list for next week. Ever notice how every single white wideout has great hands in the NFL? I think it’s because white wideouts in the NFL with BAD hands, are called “insurance salesmen.”

Dikembe Meiztombo said...

Wow. Rutgers shuts out Illinois 33-0. Wild.

The Rev said...

Just a few quick things...

Zeke... Ewing theory does apply with Abreu. The Phillies got infinitely better after he left. However the Yankees have also benefitted. It is a Ewing Theory with a win-win.

I always knew Barkley married a white woman. He was married to her in Philly.

JoePa gave up sideline control last year and delegated it to his assistants. His assistants make all the calls now. It is probably a big reason they won last year. He is still there mainly for recruiting and to be a figure on the sidelines.

He has earned the right to call his own retirement. But I do agree it will be soon. I think this year or next year will be his swan song.

Los probably has a better opinion on this than I do.

And Jfreak... looking forward to your weekend wrap on Monday.

Luckily, the playing ND straight up and Oregon saved me, somewhat.

And Thank God Michael Irvin is back yelling on Countdown.

Isiah Thomas said...

I just saw Dr. Phil on Countdown, WHAT THE FUCK. Bring back Rush before you break out Mrs. Phil.

Isiah Thomas said...

HAHAHHAAH, they just showed the replay of The Bus pregame holding his junk, that is funny.

Los said...

I hate swallowing my pride, but Notre Dame looked awfully good in every aspect last night (maybe rush defense wasn't so good, but now I'm nitpicking). Weiss absolutely outcoached Penn State. Penn State's defense was picked apart by Quinn, and it looked as if the young Lions were intimidated playing in South Bend.

If the Irish can overcome Michigan next Saturday, watch out. They need to play with that intensity on the road, and if they can do that, they may be playing in the title game.

The Rev said...

Seeing Dr Phil made me sad.

It has come to this, hasn't it?

The Rev said...

Los...

That had to hurt saying that.

I'll see you in an hour.

thejaywhite runs a 4.28 40 yards or "metres"?

JFreak said...

meters is longer, so that would be more impressive.

Isiah Thomas said...

ND looked good but PSU is a bad football team, they'll only win 5 or 6 games.

Let's see what happens when U of M visits. If they destroy the Wolverines I'll raise my opinion of ND from contempt to mere disdain.

thejaywhite said...

Yards

meters would be a world record since thatwould be 44Y

thejaywhite said...

Rev should post my latest email from daddy as a new story...i know u kids like hearing bout the irish

Isiah Thomas said...

I think "diarrhea" bests describes the color of Michael Irvin's suit today.

Isiah Thomas said...

if Dikta is on the main set for Countdown this season, how many weeks till he drops an "n" bomb in Irvin's direction?

4?

Isiah Thomas said...

I went bowling for the first time in 3 or 4 years last night, got a 179, whachu got on that?

Steve Smith : OUT

"IF YOU SEE DIS FACE DIS MENS DAT I SCORA TOUCHDOWN"

uhhh, not today Steve, go pimp slap your wife to get the frustration out.

and why is Sal Pal watching Mike Vick's body?

Isiah Thomas said...

Also - I've got a bet with a Chiefs fan at work, he's got LJ "smashing" the single season TD record, I say no way.

Thoughts?

i think that looks pretty good.

Isiah Thomas said...

the Bills could get run out the building.

My God, Dr. Phil on Countdown made me switch to cbs.

Is JB the smoothest studio host?

Isiah Thomas said...

Sterling Sharpe is the black Max Headroom.

mound of venus said...

17 pts. qualifies as run out of the building. it will also quality as a win for me. zeke i am going to call you lock from henceforth. as in "texas is a lock to win".

Isiah Thomas said...

2-1 in locks this year thats winning money.

I wasn't the only one to jump on the Tex bandwagon.

Isiah Thomas said...

Buf is a bad bad bad team, gl with them, nothing like one team blowing up your bet.

I'd pray that Losman gets hurt early.

Isiah Thomas said...

Did Steve Young go on a 3 day bender? He looked like a homeless guy. And why is he STILL on Mike Vick's nuts? He's approaching the Joey T man love stage with Vick.

iam....get your balls ready for Steve Young.

because he's only made 1.

mound of venus said...

1, huh? i posted a 3 team teaser that i hit. i also made that same 3 team bet but as a parlay. that hit too. hit the steelers on thursday. i know prince william county is full of hicks but i thought they would at least teach you to count, lee corso.

Isiah Thomas said...

someone from Austin, TX calling someone a hick, that's just funny.

steers and queers Mound and I don't see horns.

For the record I took Pitt too, don't go too far out on a limb taking one game a week.

Isiah Thomas said...

and I'm in PHX; granted we don't have as much ropin' and rastlin' as Austin but we're a city.

Isiah Thomas said...

further Mass gems :

"Frank Gore...he's a gore...he's gonna gore out yards" on Frank Gore and his running style.

"The #'s are the #'s" - comparison of QB numbers

Isiah Thomas said...

another Maas gem :

"Referee Ed Hoculi makes those controversial referee jerseys look good"

mound of venus said...

i guess where you grew up never really leaves you. you actually cannot count. my apologies. as far as phoenix goes...yeah it like LA with the sprawl, traffic, and no city core/culture. except that it is NOT like LA in that there are good looking women and water. great place. have fun with that.
i also seem to always see austin at the top of every publication for the women( #2 best place for singles), education of the population, and technological innovation. i never saw bill simmons say anything about phoenix. you? he has written about austin numerous times. but i dont mean to get this much into it. if you were in a cool place, like say boston, i would actually like to get into a discussion. but your in the freaking desert; in all senses. people moved there because it was cheap. and now it is not even that. no wonder you have had 2 mass murderers going nuts over there recently.

Isiah Thomas said...

never knew the SG was the voice of cool cities, I stand corrected.

I came from the sweet part of PWC where we knew the plural of y'all wasn't y'alls but rather all yall.

I guess since you have 3 stoplights and a new applebees that takes you from college town to city, and don't forget the piggly wiggly. Anyway, MOV, enough with the petty pissing contest, as much as I enjoy it though.

This maybe the best Maas gem yet:

pass incomplete, bounces off a defenders head :

play by play guy : "if it was dodgeball he'd be out"

Maas "ha ha ha, ok joe average"

I think he meant average joe's from Dodgeball.

Bill Maas isn't the god, but he is a god.

mound of venus said...

when is the real world:phoenix coming? i cant wait. downtown is so thriving. you could go to see the d-backs and then go to thunder dan's bar. and then....well let me know. i can only imagine all the possibilities.

Isiah Thomas said...

isn't Boston the most racist city in America? At least they have that going for them.....

Isiah Thomas said...

mov your petty-ness knows no bounds, you are a small small little man. But I respect that.

Isiah Thomas said...

when is the real world:phoenix coming?

this actually made me laugh out loud.

mound of venus said...

i grew up in mclean, va. 5 minutes from the nation's capital. prince william county is how far? and how many people in mclean had southern accents? somehow, i think everyone in prince william did. so where are you going with the country bumpkin angle?

check mclean's per capita income too, bud. apples there do not fall too far from the trees. i offer you congrats on moving out west though and not repeating the errors of your neighbors and moving to kentucky.

The Rev said...

Boston used to be the most racist city in America. They've made some good strides in recent years. But it is far from perfect.

By the way... the way Bledsoe is playing today, he's going to make TO pine for the days of Donovan McNabb.
