Look, the most glorious rainbow ever. Oh, do me on it!

Ok fine, i'll take it up the keister and get the monday recap rolling. i'll blow my wad in the most worthless way. i am officially the clean up guy in this rotation. clean up guy in thejaywhite's sense of the word though. i get leftovers. my friends get the hot chicks (decent topics to cover) and i get the fatties (recaps and posting bc no one else is). so, yes, i will take one for the team, and get the new topic rolling on this glorious monday.

Ah, yes. first... the Rev and the podcast (you can find it on the link to his page on the right). Propers go out to Los and Smoke for their very first podcast. a job well done. funny and entertaining enough for a first time shot. gotta say, it was more worthwhile than any radio show on in the morning around here. that's both a good and bad thing. good because im sure we're all interested in hearing more, and bad because that means "real" shows are getting shown up by a couple of first timers on the 'net. so.. here's to more shows and please, for the love of all that's good and pure, keep the laundry running. i think that should be a continuing "thing" on the show. i thought hearing it kick into the rinse cycle was darn funny. it added its own pizazz to the show. keep washing baby!

anyways... i'm a homer, and the DETROIT TIGERS after nearly 20 years, are officially back in the postseason. boom pow surprise.

a handful of good foosball matchups over the weekend.. or matchups that you had hoped would be good. at least teams that were competitive were playing, whether they sucked hard or not. (ie, packers/lions or seahawks/giants for example). too bad the Giants didnt think so. the time change must've got em. i'm pretty sure they all dressed out for the game, but didnt really feel like playing. (actually, this game looked similiar to the ND/Mich blowout) or maybe it's just this.. Eli Manning isnt as good as people want him to be. have u noticed how Eli makes his name for himself.. coming back. GREAT, you can kick ass when a team drops back and plays prevent defense! that's awesome! yes he can continually bring his team back in the last quarter (which takes a solid guy, no doubt).. but he's doing it when teams are just playing "'dont give up the big play' defense". and then Shockey. the quinntessential teammate....

"We got outplayed and outcoached. Write that down."
-- Jeremy Shockey

thanks buddy. always nice to know that a player is this willing to kick people under the bus as quickly as possible. shouldnt this whining wait until at least more than 3 games? like halfway in the season at least? i dont know.. i just dont think you air it out like that this early. he was all fired up after they didnt convert the 2-point late in the game, but after his weak ass route that he ran on that play, i think he should be mad at himself too. shudda'yo mouf'.

can we, the USA, stop saying that we have the best athletes in the world, and then continually lose world competitions? thank you Ryder Cup for proving us wrong in yet another display of sports incompetence.

ok, and finally, Chris Simms got lit up so bad that he had to get his spleen removed maaaaan! bruised ribs, check. dehydration, check. blood transfusion? check. shattered confidence and equally shitty team, double check. SPLATTERED SPLEEN, check!

sucks to be you, buddy. big time.

How does Mark Brunell break the most completions in a row record?

And how in the world did Rich Gannon own that record?

Brunell might die next week vs Jax.

Brunnell broke that record because the Texans can't stop anybody. I didn't see the game, but from what I heard he just dinked and dunked the hell out of the Texans defense and they couldn't stop it.

THE CHAMP. said...

I don't disagree with Shockey. That's what coaches are for. It sure as hell isn't to teach these guys technique...they're pros they don't need that kind of coaching.

Shockey didn't call out anyone specific (i guess maybe coaches). So I don't see the problem. If he would've called out Eli, or Plax, or someone then that becomes a problem.

Eric said...

Brunell broke the record becuase of the 22 passes completed I think he threw the ball across the line of scrimmage maybe 4 times. It was a spectacular display of screen passes.

Shockey is such a dick. How many did they show him yelling at no one in particular because he didn't get the ball. Surprisely though his is not the biggest ahole tight end in the league. That honor goes to Mr. Kellen Winslow Jr. who got a 15 yard taunting penalty then got up after his next catch and did the exact same thing. What a dick.

THE CHAMP. said...

How did Michigan State lose that game???? What a terrible show of coaching. How do you only throw the ball 6 times in the 2nd half? what moron's.

Please don't say Charlie Weiss won that game. He didn't. MSU lost the game.

Sorry Jaywhite they won't run the table.

Thank you for the praise Iam.

ToddPacker said...

As much as I do not want to contribute to the ND hype...Even if MSU had no business passing in that situation, you got to give credit to that dude, that was a hell of an INT and return when the game was on the line.

THE CHAMP. said...

Oh yeah that play was great. I give credit to the ND defense. They made plays when they needed too. But MSU never should've sat on the ball that long.

How did that last play not get reviewed? I know it wouldn't have changed, but don't you think in a big game like that a play like that should be reviewed? Just seems like they should've taken the time to look at it. Again I know it wouldn't have changed it.

You guys keep whining about Notre Dame like they are the only team this year to schedule cake teams. News flash: They aren't.

I know I went through this before, but I'll do it again. These are 'cake' teams some of the top teams play.

Michigan: Vanderbilt, Central Michigan, Northwestern, Indiana

Ohio State: North Texas, Cincy, Indiana, Illinois, Northwestern

Auburn: Miss State, Buffalo, Ole Miss, Arkansas

USC: Arizona, Stanford

West Virginia: Marshall, East Wash, East Carolina, Miss State, Syracuse, South Florida

Florida: Central Florida, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, West Carolina

Notre Dame: Stanford, UNC, Air Force, Army

JFreak said...

Navy currently is 3-1 so I can't put them in the cake category. They play Rutgers the game before they play ND, so that will be a good litmus test on how strong they are.

anonymous said...

notre dame = guaranteed national tv contract.

"notre dame football on nbc". they even get the own tv channel maaaan.

this means that even when they're shitty (the last how-many-ever years), that they still get played in the primetime tv spots. we had to suffer through Ty Willingham and his over-ranked but hopeful team, and now the same with Weis. there's guaranteed to be better matchups that DONT include ND. let me see them please.

jfreak... let me 'splain it another way. imagine if every Memphis Grizzlies game was a national game and they tried to hype Pau Gasol every week. (because ND games mean about that much to me).

or think of the Lakers. they suck now, but still get the TNT games. except they dont have to call it "los angeles lakers basketball brought to you by jesus himself on the LA Lakers basketball network".

other than because theyre a hate rival to begin with.. things like this fuel my hate.

They need to amend the BCS rules if ND or MB (Michigan's Bitch, as I will now refer to them) keep scheduling these softies to get into the BCS.

Again, MB is thrown down our throats and get wayyyyyyy too much hype. MB ain't that good this year.

Isiah Thomas said...

they put the last seconds of the Jets game on out here....

Losman bouncing that last pass on 4th down is all I needed to see about that guy. Then they zoomed in on him as he's walking off the field and it looked like he was pissed at the receiver....and he bounced the pass 4 yds in front of him...

THE CHAMP. said...

Indiana, Northwestern, Wisconsin= CONFERENCE games for Michigan, OSU, which means the conference schedules them not the schools themselves....what conference does ND play in? Oh that's right they don't they schedule all of their games on their own.

Sure they played Central Michigan and Vanderbilt (at least they were an SEC team). Everyone has some cupcake games.

i dont know for sure other than that though.

does MB play Duke anytime soon? they might wanna get them locked up before everyone else does..

The Rev said...

They have contracts with some teams to play them for X amount of years.

ND used to have a contract with BC to play them every season. It expired this season. They replaced BC by bringing back Penn State from what I know. So certain teams can be decided years in advance.

I know some programs will schedule a lesser team in their state for years just to give a local program a boost. Penn State schedules Temple once a season just to give the Temple program a helping hand with some ticket revenue and some national exposure. It also gives the fans of Philly a chance to see Penn State play locally every now and then.

To many, it looks like Penn State is scheduling a cupcake, and they are. But Temple needs all the help they can get, and Penn State gives them some.

Of course, that game is this year on Nov 11th, and it's in Penn State. I'm sure the Nittany Lions will need a boost themselves at that point.

Isiah Thomas said...

MB better get Temple on the schedule, they're due to be good in a few years too.

THE CHAMP. said...

Jugs,

it depends on the schools. Some schools have contracts with other schools to play them home and home (see: OSU/Texas). Conferences also have agreements with each other (Pac 10/Big 10 had this with the rose bowl). Everything is pretty much 2 years in advance so hotels and tickets can be sold. It's not like the NFL where the schedule comes out in May before the season starts. I think the Big10 schedule is already done for a few years.

Another wrinkle is the fact that the NCAA added the 12th game. This caused a scheduling frenzy and is the reason more schools have a D1-AA school on their schedule this year.

whocares said...

Not all schedules are planned years in advance. Some big time matchups (OSU/TX) are scheduled a few years prior, but most of the smaller games are scheduled the year before. A team like, say Ohio St., finds an open date and adds a cupcake like North Texas.

And jfreak,

bryan makes a good point. Teams dont have a choice in who they play in their conference. So how can you hold that against them? ND plays GAtech, Mich, Mich St., and USC. Two top tier teams and two middle of the road teams. The rest of them are W's

In conference, Auburn for example plays LSU, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas. That's three top tier teams (minus UGA last week) and two middle of the road teams.

Why should they have to go out and schedule another tough non-conference game?

anonymous said...

spiff, you better believe i wont be watching their terrible, worthless excuse for a pregame show.

College needs to take the approach of English Soccer...

take the top 30 teams and put them in a conference. This will be where your National Champion comes from. You have to be in the conference to be considered. At the end of the year the bottom 10 teams are dropped. Teams 31-40 are added for the next season. Teams 1-8 go to playoffs for the NC.

I remember laughing at a lot of his stuff then and enjoying it, but I don't remember his jokes too well. I couldn't tell you one joke he made that night.

However, we had to leave the show halfway through because a member of our party was too drunk to continue and falling out of her chair. I never forgave her for that.

I remember thinking, "Gee, I hope this guy doesn't make it big so I won't have to say that I missed half of his show when he wasn't big."

Well, he's big now.

For the record, I like him. But he's not one of my absolute favorites.

ToddPacker said...

I'm sure I'm in the minority on this board, but I prefer the college game over the pro game. I will admit that not having a playoff is a joke and the quality of play is also better in the pros, but there is much more passion on the college level. I was lucky enough to attend a university with a good football progam, and I'm still a season ticket holder, so maybe I'm a little bias.

Don't get be wrong, I'm still glued to the TV on
Sunday for NFL, I just like Saturdays a little better.

THE CHAMP. said...

I don't get the "more passion" argument. The players have more passion? Or the fans? Or both?

I think it's a different situation. You could say that High School football has more passion than college depending on what city you are from. I know some cities in GA that shut down on Friday.

The Rev said...

More passion?

Go to Lincoln Financial Field on the night when TO returns to Philly. I think you'll see some damn passion that night.

El Padrino said...

todd packer you are the minority

anonymous said...

the 'more passion' argument is easy..

pros = youve made it and you have mad money. of course you still wanna compete, but seriously... youve got a hot ass wife and couple kids and a massive house, your yacht, and that video game with you on the cover. so if you win, sweet, but if you lose, well, u did your part.. your team just sucks. you bust balls, but hope not to actually bust your balls on the playing field (ie, get a severe injury).

college... you are a broke ass college kid who wants to bang mad bitches and throw 100 dollar bills in the air (like u just dont care). you want everything that u see on Cribs. the way to get it is NOT to use your free college education, it's to use your athletic talent. you dont wanna work construction for the rest of your life, and you might not have to (like half the suckers that sit home and watch you). so get out there and die trying (thanks Fitty).

and you got family in the stands who are banking on you too, so therein lies the "fans passion". their mafuggin MEAL TICKET.

THE CHAMP. said...

See I don't think that NFL players have "less passion" because they're getting paid. Nothing's guaranteed and if they don't perform they get cut. Unlike the NBA.

Most of the time the guys in the NFL are the guys that love playing the game.

I'm with Rev. Go to Philly, or Seattle or Green Bay (even when they suck) or Giants Stadium and you'll see some passion.

whocares said...

I'm with you Todd Packer. I still dig Sundays, but Saturdays are far and away better. And Iam summed it up pretty well, sort of.

jugdish said...

So basically, the less money people are getting paid...the better the game and the more passion.

You should see the passion of our co-ed beer softball team!

RE: Scheduling

Bob Davies was saying that back in 1996 he remembered looking at the 2006 schedule for Notre Dame and thinking the GT game was going to be a tough one. So I guess that game was scheduled over 10years out. And I guess he thought he would still be their coach.

anonymous said...

its about hoes and dough.

college, you wanna be the star to get mad ass.

pro, youre not playing for ass (cause youre probably married), just for personal pride.

pride shmide. guys want ass.

seriously though... other than in the playoffs, when do u see NFL players jumping around on the sideline and all hyped up about the actual game? next to never.

flick on any college game on any given week and youll most likely see a really excited sideline. some kids get ONE chance against a big school (for example). pros, its like.. well, we always have next week.. next year... etc

on another note, if pro players were SO passionate about "the game", then why do so many bitch out on the Pro Bowl? youre even in Hawaii!

Thurman was one of at least three players in a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe. The vehicle is owned by Bengals rookie wide receiver Reggie McNeal, who was a passenger, said a source at the scene. Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry was a passenger and threw up out a window of the vehicle. Neither McNeal nor Henry was cited or charged with any type of violation.
That's right: Police observed Henry, who had just caught two touchdown passes, throwing up outside the vehicle. But hey: Not being arrested is actually a pretty nice night for him.

This all happened at 3 a.m. today. God, we love the Bengals

Wanted to get some opinions on this trade. Its a two team keeper league, its a 10 team money league point per reception. Starts:1 QB, 2 RB, 2WR, etc

Team 1 has

C Portis
C Brown
D Foster
M Harrison (one of his keepers from last season)
L Coles
K Johnson
M Muhammad

Team 2 has :
F Taylor
S Alexander (keeper)
L Johnson (keeper)
C Benson
L Maroney
J Horn
R Wayne
M Jones

Team 1 gives up Marvin Harrison
Team 2 gives up Fred Taylor and C Benson

Thoughts?

temwr said...

Al Gore is in your league?

temwr said...

That Harrison trade is BS.

Team 1 is trading a starting WR who gets good points for RBs neither of which is guaranteed to start.

You could phrase that trade like this:
"Should I trade my #1WR for 2 bench players??"

Isiah Thomas said...

tem I agree 100% but the owner pulling this off is trying to rationalize that he's not jacking the guy.

He sabotaged a trade I had for Peyton Manning earlier in the season. I love that minutes after he makes the trade its announced SA is out "indefinetly".

how bad will the New Orleans hype get tonight? how many times will announcers claim that theyre "saving a city".

i lost my house and members of my family died, but because one of the shittiest franchises in all of pro sports is back, good lord, i feel so much better. this really completes my life and uplifts me. throwing a pigskin around brings back my mom or my dead baby.

thank you, football.

I think my neighbor is a stripper/hooker...

everyday I get up to go to work and leave my house at 7-7:30am. I always see her pulling into the neighborhood as I'm leaving. She looks dressed up (wearing alot of make-up) but she looks tired. She drives a new Mercedes and is in extremely good shape. She may just be coming back from her morning workout, but she's NEVER home at night (I know this because she always parks the car in the driveway not in the garage). She lives alone in a huge house, but every once in awhile guys come over, but I rarely see the same guy twice.

I'm probably making this up in my head, but it's a lot better to think about than if she's a school teacher.

Now, should I go over and ask her for a show? I'd mow her lawn if she wanted. Maybe I should go over and ask for a cup of sugar.

ToddPacker said...

If she is indeed a stripper, I'm guessing the lawn is already mowed

jugdish said...

I'd go with the lawn mowing route...if you go over to ask for a cup of sugar she'll be telling her stripper/teacher friends about her gay neighbor.

El Padrino said...

i know crumpler had alot of drops but vick was terrible

oh well, auburn on thursday night!

anonymous said...

bryan, go over and offer to mow her lawn.

then take her upstairs, and give the ol' one-two one-two. the jaywhite specialty, as was previously taught to us on here.

kiss the mouth, kiss the box, kiss the mouth, kiss the box, then BAM! stuff the sack. she'll never see it coming, but since she's already a whore, she'll go with it.

From my point of view the most annoying part about last night's game is how it seems like a lot, if not most, of the local media are this morning giving the team a pass for playing like shit and totally sucking (c'mon - 2 blocked kicks??). Apparently if the other team and fans are very fired up it's ok to choke. (That explains the 98 Super Bowl I guess.)

Another game or 2 like that from Mr. Vick and my earlier guest column will start looking better and better...

jugdish said...

I understand what iam was saying about the hype from last nights game, which is why I am glad I didn't see it so I wouldn't have to listen to 3 hours of the announcers hyping it up. However, I am glad that the Saints won for the city. The way the media hyped the game would make you think that the Saints saved the city, but in reality, the game just represents a big step that the city is starting to return to normal, and its been a long time for those people to feel any bit of normal. That's a pretty big deal for the people in that area.

I was down in NO with the ANG for a couple weeks after Katrina, and I also went over to Biloxi 2 months after that...its going to be YEARS before those places, espcially the Biloxi area, are anywhere near normal. So I guess what I'm saying is that for those people, last nights game deserved all the hype it got.

jugdish said...

Bryan...have you seen thejaywhite leaving her house?

whocares said...

Hit all the strip joints in town until you run into her. Or not.

whocares said...

Did anyone hear the comment about how the people at the game last night were the same people who were trapped in the Superdome a year ago?

Ummmm, yeah, the people that were trapped in the Superdome last year proooobably cant afford $150 Saints tickets. Just a hunch.

anonymous said...

Re: "some of those people that survived Katrina inside the SuperDome are here tonight!"

yeah, theyre called maintenance workers.

i imagine NO being exactly like detroit.. everybody that goes to those games are from the outer suburbs. the only thing that actual "detroiters" have to do with the game is ripping people off for parking, or the homeless trying to scam for money.

if the D had a flood and had to rebuild, it would be a god send.

this football game SAVED THEIR LIVES!

and wow, are the falcons terrible.

jugdish said...

Well...New Orleans was a shit hole before the storm anyways.

jugdish said...

Its not hard to defend against a team that can't pass, but their special teams were horrible!

El Padrino said...

fuck NO

vick owes me $100

jugdish said...

I wouldn't have touched that game...as surprised as I was to see NO win...wouldn't have touched it.

Isiah Thomas said...

Joey T kept harping about the field...first off wouldn't it slow both teams down?

Second, he first said Reggie Bush would be adversely affected by the field because he was a "long strider", then in the second he goes, "the field is set up for guys like Bush who are short striders".

And if TC keeps calling him out he will shank him on air.

Isiah Thomas said...

Crumpler was shaving points, as was the whole team. The punt block was awful protection, the center basically ran out of the guys way.

Then Crumpler drops a TD that hit him right in the hands, he started to bring the ball in then just flat threw it to the ground. His 4th down catch just proves he was doing enough to not make it look like he was shaving pts.

Isiah Thomas said...

You can't blame that loss on Vick.

Isiah Thomas said...

Why are NFL head coaches dumb as shit?

NO is inside the 3 yd line and they try and run Reggie Bush up the middle twice? WTF? Dumb coaching.

El Padrino said...

it was fixed, zeke is right

this game was like every Belmont Stakes

El Padrino said...

ed hochuli is jacked

Isiah Thomas said...

since we're ranting on the hypocrisy of last nights game...

alright have a pregame concert, but Green Day and U2? Who else saw only young, white, preppy faces rushing the field to get close to the stage? I didn't see too many young, white, preppy faces on the tv in the aftermath of the Katrina destruction.

You mean to tell me you couldn't get some jazz musicians or have more of an ensemble than Green Day and U2?

I thought they just added to the hypocrisy.

Isiah Thomas said...

and Mora's press conference seals the pt shaving deal. He wasn't mad at all he even said a small part of him was happy that NO won.

Nick Saban would have blasted NO if his team lost.

Mora is a pussy.

Isiah Thomas said...

I really hope Referree Ed Hoculi constantly refers to himself in the 3rd person.

anonymous said...

im not much for the conspiracy theories in sports (ok, maybe i am a little).. but that game last night reeked out a "this game is scripted" stench. TC was saying "you couldnt have scripted a better story", but it was almost too perfect. it literally was like a story.

and really, this game was just one game in a long season, so i could easily see this being pulled off (and getting the falcons team to buy into it).

what was more important with both teams already at 2-0, ATL winning this one game, or NO winning and quickly becoming the "feel good" story of the season. just the thing to "bring back NO". it just seemed all a little TOO perfect..
