GOOAT, Herr Nolan and the Rat

I’ll just throw these out there, if you like it you can respond, if you don’t, send it right back….

1) Dan Snyder is the Greatest Owner of All Time, or GOOAT. Why? He hasn’t won anything yet, he’s seen as a petulant child, a wild spending ego maniac and he used to run his franchise like a fantasy team. Let me build my case….. When the team was sold from the previous owner’s, The Cookes, he wasn’t even the majority partner in his group. Yet the guy who was awarded the team either backed out or was denied ownership after the bidding was over. So Snyder stepped up – he’s got balls. Secondly, and more importantly, he’s got money. He’s got more money than thejaywhite has made up chick stories – and that’s a lot people. He made his money in communications – he sold a company that he started, Snyder Communications for a few bil and used that to finance his bid for the team. Lastly, he’s a fan. The Skins have been his team since he was a kid. He loves the Skins, he’s willing to do whatever it takes to put a winning product on the field. He doesn’t hoard his money – he doesn’t skimp out on anything, he re-invests everything into the franchise. Add it up, balls, money and rooting-interest and BAM – there you go, GOOAT. Since he’s brought back Gibbs he’s been hands off and relatively unseen in the media spotlight – which is a good thing – he’s getting it. Once everything falls into place the Skins will be winning Superbowls – that’s right plural. Snyder has also taken the Skins to the top of the NFL revenue food chain – he’s squeezed out every ounce of money he can for the team. He’s been rumored to be in the market to buy the Six Flags Theme Park corp. Brilliant, he can use that to subsidize the team! What sports fan wouldn’t want an owner who is willing to pull out all the stops to win? Don’t give me Rooney from Pitt or Cuban from Dallas, Dan Snyder your GOOAT! Fine Print : For the sake of jinxes and karma, I think the Skins will go 0-16 this season and never make the playoffs again.

2) Herr Kaiser Nolan? How in the hell does Kevan Barlow get away with comparing Mike Nolan to Hitler? I’m glad he was speaking his mind and not talking in clichés. But come on. If a white player made a derogatory comparison of a black head coach, shit, he’d be run out of the league – John Rocker anyone? You know what, I’m not even offended by what Barlow said – maybe this will result in a little less PC in the sports world.

3) F Coach K : I’ll preface this by making the disclaimer that yes, I am a Duke hater. But I’d like to rant about Coach K or Coach Rat as I call him, face it the guy looks like a rat. Yet the guy gets bj’s all the time from the sports media and I’m sick of it. Try watching a telecast of a Duke home game with Duke Vitale (yes Duke Vitale) and Mike Patrick calling it. It’ll make you want to off yourself. I digress…Coach R…First off; the guy is a great recruiter, not a great coach. He gets 4 McDonald’s All-Americans a year yet his teams never go deeper than a 6 man rotation. Also, how many times will his teams fold – like they did this past March to LSU? I bring this up because I’m hearing “Coach K is the perfect coach for Team USA”. Well, anyone besides Larry Brown and George Karl would be an upgrade. Toss in the fact that we sent a lot better team to this competition and we revamped our selection/tournament prep process and the improvements have less to do with Coach R and more to do with better logistics. I hope Team USA wins but more importantly I hope Coach R doesn’t get all the credit.

4) Mini College Football Preview: I’m more into the pro game but I am interested in the college game, being a Michigan fan and all. I don’t see Notre Dame winning it all. They’re getting wayyyy too much hype - I think they’ll lose at least 2 of their first 4. Also, their schedule is a joke; they play ALL THREE SERVICE ACADAMIES! This isn’t 1946, ND isn’t America’s University anymore and not everyone is enamored with their every move. I want to scratch my face off for saying this, but I think The Ohio State University is the team to beat. Tressel just gets it and his team is loaded.

--- Isiah.

Being from Columbus originally and watching every OSU game over the past 15 years, I have to agree with you Zeke. Although if Henne/Hart can stay healthy this year, UM will be dangerous because their defense has improved a lot. I'm tired of hearing about Notre Dame. They couldn't stop anyone last year because their D was slow, how is this year any different? Did everyone on defense drop a 1/2 second off of their 40-yd time? Weis is a great coach and he'll lead them to a championship eventually (gag), but this isn't the year. He's an offensive guy, and they'll score 40/game, but until they get some speed on the other side of the ball they won't be playing for a championship.

JFreak said...

I will agree that Notre Dame has a 4-week cakewalk (@Navy, UNC, @Air Force, Army) in the middle of their season. But, they also play Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, and USC.

Take Ohio State...they play home games against Northern Illinois, Cincinnati, Bowling Green, and Indiana.

Everybody has throw away opponents.

Texas: North Texas, @Rice, Sam Houston, Baylor

USC: @Arkansas, @Arizona, @Wash. St., Washington

Auburn: Wash. St., @Miss. St., Buffalo, Arkansas, @Ole Miss, Arkansas St.

That's your top 5...each one has throwaway games.

thejaywhite said...

Notre Dame has one of the toughest schedules in the nation..yes some easy ones..but their entire schedule is dictated by who NBC wants them to play, and that means big name schools from the big ten and their hated rivals like USC, and boston college.

I am one of the largest notre dame fans you'll find. I dont think we are as good as the hype either and I am not sold on brady quinns he throws such a wobbly ball. But the magic is back and I think ohio state is overrated they lost a lot. However I think oklahoma is going to be very tough for all of us...they dont even need bomar.

GM-Carson said...

I like Miami football. They were thugs that got away with anything in the 80's/90's, but they have turned that program around to be much more respectable.

Alright, this is probably the only time I'll be on today...gotta teach the youff da trouff...who the hell am I a teacher?

As I've probably mentioned, I'm in Atlanta and throughout the summer it seems the local press has REALLY been playing up a possible upset by Ga Tech of ND. I think it's more wishful thinking though as honestly GT just doesn't seem that good, and I've always thought Chan Gailey is way over-rated as a head coach. (However, they do seem to be in a habit of having one good to great upset most years.)

Actually, now that I think of it, being a Georgia fan I should be rooting for GT to upset ND, cause once everyone around here jumps on their bandwagon they'll crash & burn like they usually do, hopefully making it even easier for UGA to beat them in November.

thejaywhite said...

GT has virtually no chance against Notre Dame...their is no way in hell ND will open this season with a loss...they will come out very ready.

I think the first real threat for a loss to ND is Purdue in week 5.

ebntx said...

i agree nd is way overated, as as much as i hate to say it this year is ohio state's to lose. getting through my beloved texas will be tough, but even if they lose that early game i can still see them in the championship game. west va also has such an easy schedule they can tend to fool people that are title contenders. in the end i still have to cheer for my 'horns even with losing young, they have a stable of running backs to help take the ease off of new starting (hopefully) qb colt mccoy.

hook 'em horns

thejaywhite said...

HAAAA....if ohio state loses they will not be in the championship game....theres gonna be almost 5 undefeateds this year....and we are going to see more and more undefeateds every year with people making easy schedules

Jay Scott said...

so you're saying Texas Tech is going all the way, right?

Snyder would be great if this were Major League Baseball - he'd probably be competing with Steinbrenner. But, because of salary caps, Snyder is "handcuffed" into having to manage a team correctly - which means not bringing in players who are well past their prime (Bruce Smith), addressing needs that are more pressing than bringing in a lot of number 3 receivers (Does Brunell still have an arm), and negotiating smart contracts with players (I think Arrington is still laughing at his Washington Deal). Maybe he's learning - we'll have to see. Gibbs doesn't have too many years left.

In college, recruiting is a big part of being a good head coach. Sure, Coach K gets far too much praise compared to other coaches, but he is a great basketball coach, and I think you are underestimating how difficult it is to coach in the ACC with all of those really good basketball teams. Plus, Coach K stresses teamwork, which is something that is missing in both college and pro basketball at this point. And no, I am not a Duke fan, and I often root against them because it is fun to root for the underdog. But still ...

I think Notre Dame gets far too much praise EVERY year. Is there another football program in the country that can lose 3 games and still be eligible for a BCS title game? How is this possible? Ohio State is a great team, and if they can get through their difficult schedule undefeated (or even with one loss), they should be in the BCS title game (this, coming from a Penn State fan).

thejaywhite said...

los,

ohio state was their 3rd loss..so they had 2 losses and were eligible..and i dont think we will see a 9-2 season like NDs that was quite as impressive for a long time..

they lost in OT to mich state because of horrible officiating..remember ND won that game with a minute left when they got a safety but the ref didnt see it.

and then they took USC as deep as anyones taken them in 3 seasons...and again they lost cause a bad call...you cant push your QB into the end zone thats illegal

El Padrino said...

Redskins stink, it seems like they go 8-8 every year, this year is no different. The faster they give the offense to Campbell the better.
I got no problems with Snyder. I don't know bout GOOAT though.

The Barlow thing happens all the time. no comment.

Your on the money with the Coach K thing. He gets a BJ every time his name flashes up on a sports channel or game. I can't wait for a scandal to come popping up one day involving little boys, xanax's and jack daniels.

already mentioned but it's true, every college team has throw away wins. ND aint winning jack shit this year. Mich is going to be very good (i'm a fan) but OSU is going to be better. The question is who's going to be #2 and have a chance to play them in the championship game?

thejaywhite said...

oklahoma is the team to beat this year

and coach K sucks...i hate duke..they just recruit kids who will be there for 4 years and have no egos...rarely does a duke player make a good pro

Los said...

So, let me get this straight - Notre Dame lost two home games last year, one to a team that was 5-6, and they should be in the BCS picture? I'm sorry, that just doesn't add up to me.

ebntx said...

even with rhett bomar they would of had a tough time...peterson can't carry the whole load by himself especially coming off that injury...expect at least 4 losses out of them this year

ND got more out of the loss to USC last year than most teams get out of "W's".

The media is itching to prop them up and a solid loss is all that was needed. I like my Auburn Tigers to go all the way!!

Isiah Thomas said...

Los - that's part of the beauty of Snyer, he's evolved. When he first got the team he kept bringing in names who were past their prime - he's stopped doing that.

And he doesn't let the salary cap hold him back. EVERY season the Skins are spenders, the way they set up their contracts is brilliant. Saw an article on the WWL yesterday that said the new CBA might have closed the loophole the Skins found. We'll see if it hurts them. They've never been a team that drafts well so I'm not opposed to them filling holes in FA.

Gibbs only has at most 2 years left, but I think he'll stay on in the front office when he's done. He's been the steadying influence the Skins have needed.

Isiah Thomas said...

ND only plays who NBC wants them? Yeah right. ND has a sweetheart deal where I think if they win 8 or 9 games they're guaranteed to get a BCS birth - its a complete joke.

They were exposed in the Fiesta Bowl last season. All you heard was "give Weiss a month to prepare and he'll destroy anyone"...well ND got SMOKKKKED.

ND is a fraud.

I don't believe either is a top 5 team but I think Louisville or WV could be in the title game. Pitt isn't bringing it again this year so barring an upset (see South FL over U of L last year) their only competition will be each other. Who ever wins that game will probably go undefeated into the title game unless AU, TX, LSU or somebody else big is undefeated as well.

Is a 9-2 Irish, OK, USC team better than an undefeated Louisville or WV? I say yes but as Zeke pointed out last week Poindexter will not see it that way. Sad really as Louisville has a great squad but the cake schedule will not give them any street cred. Maybe if they change their mascot spelling to "Cardinalz" the schedule will be overlooked.

hail to the victors, bitches.

we'll do our Michigan way, and have a super entertaining regular season, capped with exciting moments and big plays..

then we'll fizzle out in the post-season. i think it's something in the water around here (wings/pistons/umich).

Isiah Thomas said...

I'm secretly hoping UM takes a dump this season and Lloyd Carr gets the boot. Yeah his overall record is impressive but I'm tired of watching them lose 2 winnable games every year, they always have a handful of stupid plays or bad play calls that screws them up.

I've heard Les Miles, coach of LSU would be the #1 candidate for UM. I'd take that.

"rarely does a duke player make a good pro"

Battier, Boozer, Brand, Deng, Duhon, Dunleavy, Ewing, Hill, Maggette. Some of those guys might argue that statement.

Do I really need to make a list of All Time Duke busts? I can make an All Time Duke busts team if you'd like....

Isiah Thomas said...

Ewing? I know you're not refering to Daniel "I'm not going to guard Raja Bell with 1.2 seconds left as he shoots the game tying 3" Ewing are you?

Eric said...

dont you think the fact that you cant make a list of busts means its a great program. how many other schools have enough talent that make it to the nba and bust to make a list. its not like every player from carolina or michigan or arizona or uconn turned out to be all stars.

Isiah Thomas said...

PG: Hurley (1st round)

SF: Danny Ferry (1st round, wasn't he #1 overall!??!?!?)

Wil Avery (1st round)
JJ Redneck

I can go on if you'd like but this is what I came up with off the top of my head.

Isiah Thomas said...

the fizzle rate for Duke players if off the charts compared to players from other schools...

Duke players don't get better in their time at Dook.

whocares said...

Why does a WVU or Louisville team who play only one top 25 opponent (each other) all season deserve to be in the title game?

They play in a weak conference and had one decent game last year against UGA. A game that they almost gave away after being up 28-0. They won by 3.

And as an SEC fan and LSU hater, I would hate, hate, HATE to see Les Miles leave LSU. That guy may be the worst coach in America. Believe me, Michigan does not want him. He cost LSU the Tennessee game last year. Not to mention, all of the LSU fans I talk to view him as a bad coach.

It's always, "Yeah, we've got talent, but we also have Les Miles."

College basketball is not a minor league system for the pros...judge the college players by what they do in college...not the pros.

Spaceman Spiff said...

los, snyder used to do that stuff when he was making personnel decision so yea bruce smith was bad. But that was what, 2001, he has handed over the power to gibbs. They have brough in people 30 and younger, lloyd, randle el, archuleta, duckett, andre carter. They are not that handcuffed since they give out more guaranteed money, which they can afford, and back loaded contracts so they can re-negotiate after a couple years. Every year, theyre supposed to be in salary cap hell, but it never happens. And Gibs doesnt have many years left, thats obvious, he signed a 5 year contract 2 years ago, what are you expecting. Also, at least they got millions back from Lavar so that he could get into the free angent market, then signing an incentive heavy contract, then having knee problems again.

Eric said...

hurley almost died in a car accident, not sure you can call that a fizzle. and leattner and ferry had respectable careers, perhaps not living up to the hype but not many players do. the point is you can pick on almost any major program like that.

Maybe you can't judge a program on their players pro careers but when Duke Vitale is always going "they're the best ever....what a play by the greatest....unbelievable lay up...."

I mean stop hyping them up. Their pro careers prove that Dook is badly overrated.

Beth82678 said...

Actually, doesn't the fact that Duke has a semi-long list of players who star in college and then fade in the pros present an argument FOR Coach K being a fantastic coach? To me that would mean he's coaching them above their respective talent levels and in the NBA their "true talent" is exposed more accurately when he's not there to coach them.

Disclaimer - I'm not a basketball fan so I'm just using basic common sense here. :-)

Isiah Thomas said...

no MOV the handwriting is spray painted in 10 ft high letters on the wall about Redneck being a bust....

Eric said...

Well if thats the argument then I would say they are vastly underrated. You say they are overrated because they don't turn out any good pros. Well in that "rating system" everyone thinks they never have players that make it in the pros, which they clearly do, making them underrated. As a college basketball team you can't call them underrated because all they ever to is win. In the toughest conference no less.

Its easy to say they don't turn out good pros because they have so many players that make it to the pros. Other teams might have only a few true standouts in thier history, and they might turn out to be good pros, so you only remember them for producing good pro players because you only remember those players. The fact that Duke is always good and always in the spotlight means you always remember those their stars and when half of them don't make great pros you say they have a bad program.

THE CHAMP. said...

GA Tech is tougher than you might think. They have the best reciever in the country and Ball isn't bad at QB. I could see an upset if ND takes it for granted or has some first game butterflys. Plus the game is in ATL (if anyone has some extra tix laying around let me know!).

**Beth, I wish Chuck Smith would shut up about this game. **

I hate dook, but here's the thing; Coach K recruits players that fit in his system and play his style. They may not always be the best HS players, but they play the way he wants them to play (smart, tough D, etc.) They don't make great pros, but the usually end up as solid role players.

Isiah Thomas said...

Beth I like the whole Coach R gets his players to overachieve ipso facto he's a good coach argument...

however, how many teary press conferences will the guy have after his team gets bounced AGAIN from the tourney?

His record in the tourney has been pretty bad recently...his "unbeeelievable" teams have been getting worked.

I like what Beth said...and I agree with that.

Also...a very small percentage of college players make it to the pros...so them being a minor league system is a little off.

Also...what makes someone a bust out of curiosity? If Reddick doesn't average 28 points a game in the pros like he did in college...is he a bust?

I HATE DOOK.

Here's the thing, I don't much like J.J. Reddick, he's a total pinner, but the guy is clearly the best shooter I've ever seen (except for Curtis Staples, I love that guy). So whos to say he can't pattern his game after someone like Rip Hamilton. Constant motion, running around like a jackass til you lose your defender, then when he gets the least bit of daylight stroke it. It's either that or he'll be completely overmatched by the athleticism of NBA players

Alaa Abdelnaby. Duke player. NBA bust. Living legend. Discuss.

As previously stated by several people, I think Coach K is a good College Coach that recruits top HS prospects to fit his program. He teaches his players to play the College game in his system, which is totally different from the Pro game. That's why they all bust out, or become role players. Others have bad luck and get in weird accidents (Hurley, Jay Williams) or suffer a career crippling injury (Hill, and Boozer looks like he's headed there too).

I would argue that Ferry didn't have anything close to a "respectable career" and was a total bust because he was a #1 pick that held out for money and then got his rights traded. Dude's a 7.0ppg career average and his high for a season was 13ppg. I would agree that Laettner had a respectable career because his first five seasons were borderline All-Star seasons.

Will Redick be a super star in the NBA? more than likely not, but I see him performing a role player position, more along the lines of what Battier is accomplishing. And Morrison won't outlast him in in the pros.

Jay Scott - JJ was a great shooter in college and yes he did win most awards as a result of his affiliation with Duke.

I've watched a TON of Duke games where if you even look at JJ you got whistled for the foul. JJ can hit open J's and FT's till the cows come home, but he can't play D, can't create his own shot, can't carry a team on his own and really has no skills other than shooting. Now he can parlay that into a 10 min a night player in the NBA but that is about as high a ceiling as I see for the guy.

Martin VanNostrand said...

Jay Scot - iam was busting balls. There's no possible way Reddick can post those numbers which makes it that much funnier. Jordan never averaged that line. His closest was in 88 at 32-8-8. Sure he had higher point seasons but never averaged more than 6 boards and 6 assists in any other year.

and for the record, i would totally take a 10mins a night job in the NBA.

anonymous said...

yeah didnt LeBron just become one of like 3 or 4 players to post a 30/6/6 season? i mean, it's mildly unheard of.

thejaywhite said...

i dont think boozer is a good pro..lebron carried him to that one season just look what gooden has done now that hes in that role..anyone can grab boards and tip ins from lebron

Isiah Thomas said...

Don (Tempe): If you wore your celly on your belt and a jelly roll of fat covered it up and it started ringing while you were in public, would people think it was your gut that was ringing?

Jason Whitlock: lol

This was the best question I ever got Whitlock to answer on one of his chats. I used a different name and location bc I felt bad for the guy

Martin VanNostrand said...

The 30-10-7 line for Reddick is like uncle Rico saying he can throw a football over those mountains.

Eric said...

If they had started him they would've won states, no doubt

thejaywhite said...

I broke up with a girl once cause she wore a cellphone on her pants...who does that!!

anonymous said...

jason whitlock is such an effin douche. what "real" writer can have an AOL email account listed on his articles?? they wont even give him an espn.com email?

and come to think of it.. why hasnt he written an article about how espn is racist for not giving him an email address. that's his and Scoop's niche..

"hit me up at ballstate68@aol.com, yaaaay! and i'm on IM too!"

seriously.

Isiah Thomas said...

the cell on the belt buckle was so 2 years ago, now its the thing in the ear which I think is just as bad....

Tyler said...

Zeke brought up another good point as to why Duke players are good College players and why Coach K is a good College coach; Coach K yells, whines and browbeats the officals into changing the game and getting fouls called for his guys.

thejaywhite; Accountants. That's who wears their cellphones like that. The whole accounting department does that at the place where I work because their boss, the CFO does it. And it's totally lame.

thejaywhite said...

why cant paul shirley get a job...seems to be a good team guy..willing to play 0 minutes and practise hard and get beat on all day by the teams big men who actually see minutes...will play for the minimum..will play anywhere...and the team would get bonus coverage on espn cause shirleys journals..

he must be real shit at basketball...

Martin VanNostrand said...

I don't think Dunleavy is a great pro either, maybe above average at this point but not even close to as good as Van Horn his first 4 years. He's young and still has a chance I guess.

Isiah Thomas said...

tyler, I'm an accountant, I never have nor will put my cell on my belt...that's just awful.

Either Girley Shirley doesn't want to play in the NBA that bad or has a bad agent. The 12 guys on an NBA bench are midly retarted. It can't be that hard to land that spot if you are over 6'5" and have played in college.

Isiah Thomas said...

that was meant to read 12th guy on the bench, not all 12 being retarted...but for some teams like the blazers that quote might be applicable.

anonymous said...

tell that to the And1 squad.

Eric said...

Teams don't want a guy they know will never play just to have someone to beat up on in practice when they can't draft some high school kid or european with freaky athleticism and hope they can turn him into something, even if a good team guy would be the better in the long run

thejaywhite said...

what about my boy greg newton eh

i fucking hate coach K for ruining his career..newts was goin NBA for sure...then he got caught cheating on an exam and K benched him all tourney and duke went out in the 2nd round i think...newts rep was ruined and now he cant get a job in north america

Isiah Thomas said...

You've turned into a parody of yourself.

Paul Shirley: I'll be honest. This dude (whose name is probably not .....) fills up the average chat with posts questioning my (choose from) basketball ability, writing ability, or sexual orientation. Usually, I disregard them as postings from a very bored misanthrope. However, this particular missive could very well be spot-on. Which scares me a little.

Got Girley Shirley to answer this one too, I usually send him questions asking how long he's been gay, etc, he finally answered this one.

Tyler said...

Sorry, Zeke, I did not mean to include all accountatns. I should have qualified that as "Accountants that live in L.A. but still retain their fashion sense from 1998". My bad.

Isiah Thomas said...

you have to TRY and not make it to the NBA as a 12th man....the And1 guys are like rapid hyennas on the court, Skip did make the league though...

and Shirley, if he was serious about the NBA he'd have been playing overseas or in the D-League trying to catch on, not trying to be a writer/actor crying about how he can't make the NBA....

Isiah Thomas said...

98 was a good year though...

used to live in Glendale, CA, but never again, never again.

thejaywhite said...

zeke great work on asking him about his sexual orientation over and over

Isiah Thomas said...

I used to love the big white stiffs Duke would trot out there and the mention of Greg Newton brought a tear to my eye....

I can't wait till McRoberts joins that list. When I first heard the hype about this guy I thought he was a brother, when I saw his pic and realized he's another slow footed albino sasquatch I couldn't stop laughing. He's Cherokee-esque.

jugdish said...

Newton ruined his career by cheating...

thejaywhite said...

newts is my boy..growing up he was better tham magliore..and it wasnt even close

Isiah Thomas said...

wasn't it his complete lack of talent that ruined his career?

Tyler said...

Glendale's totally brutal now. I live in Burbank and I dread it when I have to go to the Galleria or whatever.

thejaywhite said...

sorry judge..im sure you never cheated on an exam in your life eh

Isiah Thomas said...

I lived in that extended stay Days Inn right off the highway there, it was close to the galleria....had my car radio stolen in the middle of the day in the hotel parking lot....man I miss those days.

jugdish said...

OK...Newton ruined his career by getting caught...better? :)

Tyler said...

Well, the good news is there's like 900 car audio places on Colorado, so you probably could have walked into one of them and they would have sold you back your own stereo as a "deal", because it was a "display model" or it "fell off a truck". That whole area is shady.

Jay Scott said...

a quick google showed that the last place Newton was playing was for the KK Siroki Hercegtisak in Bosnia. that kinda sucks, but i guess its still a step up from Canada

Jay Scott said...

what's the over/under that Parcells kills TO before the season opener?

How many of those And1 guys do you think went to college?

Isiah Thomas said...

I love Mr Meiz comments, seriously. The guy is quality.

Bravo Meiz, commentors like you make this place sweet.

Don't forget to give WVU some football love. I gotta ride that bandwagon until the sheep and/or my sisters/cousins get off.

That last sentence is just for the purposes of beating you all to the punch on WV jokes.

Shirley is an actor now. He is no more of a basketball player than anyone on this blog. He might be better, but our professional stats this year will be identical.

isn't there team co-ed now?

Tyler said...

Actually a lot of the older And1 guys went to college, it's the newer ones like The Professor (that guy is a tool) that have skipped. To name two off the top of my head; Escalade went to Louisville, I think for the full four years, and Main Event played a year at Rutgers with Jeff Van Gundy and Eddie Jordan, but then transferred after those guys left the program.

And I think TO makes it into the regular season, but something will definately go down somewhere between weeks 5-8 that will kill the Cowboys season.

I think I'm missing the obvious here - Paul Shirley had a chat today? If so, can someone post a link to the transcript please.

Isiah Thomas said...

http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=12666

his chat was yesterday

Isiah Thomas said...

I didn't know Main went to college, interesting.

The Professor has about run his course...the whole "white guy streetballin" angle is tired. He's one of the worst ones.

Tyler said...

Their coach, Steve Burtt was a street baller, a star at Iona State and played four years in the NBA. Here's his stats.

Here's the Shirley link. I think you've gotta be an insider.

Keith S said...

I like how Shirley talks about all the negativity in his chats. But he is in control of which questions he answers and which ones he doesn't. If those are the questions he picks, he has some issues.

anonymous said...

i want my own And1 nickname.

and i guarantee every one of those guys has been to a college.

not everybody gets to rape white chicks in hotel rooms, Kobe.

ebntx said...

but how long do you think it will be before zeke signs the professor to the knicks"?

very poor, poor, poor man's j-will

Tyler said...

The only reason I remembered that is because they talked about playing against each other in college and I was impressed that Main said he was coached by JVG and Jordan.

ebntx said...

iam-

I don't understand why Isiah doesn't hire Shane the Dribbling Machine as an assistant coach to help Starberry, Francis and Crawford. They could make a reality show out of that. The guy lives in New York, what's the holdup?

He remained in the public eye, primarily through his TV show, until March 31, 2002, when, alone in his Reno home, he suffered a debilitating stroke. Since then, he has stayed largely out of view, seeking comfort in the company of wife Kaye and sons Terry and Tommy -- although, as befits the former Marine, he has not given up fighting his condition, even to the extent of pursuing some groundbreaking therapy in Ukraine.

"He is paralyzed on the right side" Knighton said. "The stroke did affect his speech. He communicates with his family, but not like he's able to hold extended conversations. He and his family have found a way to make it work. Like one of the kids said, it's pretty much always been just the four of them, and it still is pretty much just the four of them."

"Lordz Of Vengeance Fantasy Heptathlon":
10 guys. Seven events. One winner.

I'm thinking;
1. Football
2. Basketball
3. Hockey
4. Baseball
5. Golf
6. Auto Racing
7. College Basketball Tournament Pick 'Em

It seems like there are some guys here that have the overall knowledge/boredom to do this. I am not one of those as I would get slaughtered in everything but Basketball, Football, and Baseball.

You could designate a day to update readers on who's leading in each league when it's going on, and also who's leading in overall points. I'm not sure what the winner gets. Maybe thejaywhite's blackbook.

ebntx said...

that's sounds cool, but couldn't auto racing be replaced with something so obscure like cricket or rugby...i don't know anybody that knows anything about those...makes it a little more competitive i think

Isiah Thomas said...
