First guest column

Since the rotation is a little off this week, and I am assuming a few of us are on vacation or going to be on vacation for the week leading up to Labor Day, I figured this would be as good a time as any to begin rolling out the guest columns.

I was going to roll the first one out tomorrow, but since we received two right away that were good for this week, I figured I'd roll one out today and perhaps roll the second one out tomorrow.

The first person to send me a column was a female. Ladies first, of course!

Yes, I am referring to our new friend Beth. She came up with the article below, and I think it's good enough to start the comments going.

Tomorrow, I have a college football preview waiting from one of our guests if everyone wants to see that. I can throw that one out tomorrow.

But today, I hope you will enjoy Beth's guest entry below. Thank you for stepping up to the plate, Beth.

----------------------------------------------

A while back a local radio station was asking listeners to "call BS" on things they disagreed with that were normally accepted as true around Atlanta. Well, it gave me what I thought was the perfect opportunity to sound off on something I've been saying for a while now. The fact they never used my submission left me wondering if it was because it was too ridiculous or too obvious or for some other reason, but figured LOV would be a good place to set it out and see what people think. But I'm calling BS that Michael Vick is an all-pro quarterback (he's been to the Pro Bowl 3 times) or even a great quarterback. He's a great runner/scrambler but overall he's an average-at-best passer/quarterback.

As exciting as Vick can be to watch for certain plays, and his overtime TD run against the Vikings in 2002 was one of the more exciting and amazing plays I've ever seen, I really think the best move the Falcons could make would be to trade him for a shitload of good players, kinda like the Herschel Walker trade the Cowboys did so many years ago. Matt Schaub has shown he's a good quarterback (to the point where I hear he is the constant subject of trade feelers from other teams) and the Falcons could fill in a lot of holes in their team with all they'd probably get for Vick. The Falcons have so many holes in their team that have become even more obvious during pre-season that they've traded and signed 2 new players just in the last week. To me, Vick is VERY exciting to watch on maybe 5-10 plays a game, but that's more for his speed and elusiveness, not necessarily for the end result of the play. Overall he's just not getting it done. I mean how many years are we going to have to suffer thru a staff trying to figure out how best to use him?? And I'm not sure there's a good answer out there for that. If he plays to his maximum effectiveness with him passing some but running more, he gets hurt. And if he rarely runs and focuses more on passing, then he's not nearly as effective.

The sad truth though is that at least for the foreseeable future a trade will NEVER happen cause if it did Arthur Blank and Jim Mora would be run out of town. For whatever reason, the national media and the NFL seem to have a lot invested in singing Vick's praises, probably cause they realize he does sell tickets and get viewers who might not otherwise go to games or watch. So while he may be good for football as a whole, I don't think he is good for the Falcons.

(And just for the record, I really hope I'm wrong with my analysis and that he has an amazing year this year and the Falcons kick butt.)

good post beth. i agree with you on all accounts. in fact, the level of love between the citizens of downtown atlanta and vick were shown to me when i was there last year. when walking around town several people asked me if i had seen "the house that vick built." obviously, they were referring to that monstrosity aka the georgia dome. that sort of sentiment is going to be hard to divorce from the minds of the front office personnel.

thejaywhite said...

news flash to beth and all atlanta fans...

other teams know vick can only run and you would never get a herschell walker type package for him...at this point you would be lucky if you got 2 first round picks for vick.

JFreak said...

I'd take two first-rounders for Vick.

thejaywhite said...

I would too and I dont think they would get that..I think a late 1st and 2nd is all they could get for him..

and that might be pushing it...he realyl has no value..hes a QB who doesnt throw well and cant stay healthy....

mind you I think you could throw him in a different type of offense where he can have more control and wing it a bit and he would perform with higher peaks...but of course he would be eratic as hell

Beth, you're dead on. I don't see all the national praise any more. It's no secret that Mike is not a special QB. Maybe Rush Limbaugh was in fact right, which I agreed with in the first place. The national media is looking for "racial equality" at QB. Who cares!? NEWS FLASH! It happened with Warren Moon and Doug Williams. Nobody gives a shit about the color of their quarterback's skin. Or any player's skin at that. If you can play, you can play. That's all that matters. It just happens that a lot of black QBs get pigeonholed into the high school/college system that want their best athlete to have the ball as often as possible. It just doesn't work that way in the NFL. Ya gotta be able to make the throws that you are required to make. That's it. Mike just isn't able to always do that. Look at J'Ville's Mike Jones, Great college QB, serviceable NFL wideout. Oh, and I'm drunk again. Just thought I'd throw that out there. Fuck the Pack!

Sorry, MATT Jones. I always holler "Matt Jones!" when I get him the rock. Hopefully you get that reference.

its laughable the patriots think deion branch is worth 2 firsts....

one third rounder sounds about right to me..i could name 30 recievers off the top of my head that are better than this guy

i really hate the patriots and ill be super pissed if they get anything even near what theyre asking for branch...plus the fact branch is due to make 7mil in 2007 is just a joke...i think hes only worth a 500-800K contract..

anyone out here actually think this guys good

jugdish said...

I agree with Spiff...Vick puts asses in seats, so I don't think they would trade him now. If they did, I think they would get more than he is worth because A. he puts asses in seats, and B. there will be some O coordinator or QB coach who thinks he can turn him around. I don't even consider him for my fantasy teams.

I have read articles that question Vick's work ethic. If he had Manning's work ethic there is no telling what he would do.

Geez, the one time I decide to sleep in a little is the day the Rev. moves my post up a day. :-)

Interesting reactions though, not what I expected. I guess it's just the media that's still enthralled with Vick, not the sports fan. Or probably more accurately, it's just the media and casual or non sports fan. I don't think we have too many casual sports fan on this blog.

And I didn't realize Canadians (i.e. jaywhite) were allowed to watch the NFL, much less comment on it. I thought they were restricted to the CFL...

And this is for Steve - "And just for the record, I really hope I'm wrong with my analysis and that he has an amazing year this year and the Falcons kick ASS!!" (I did cuss when I said "shitload", no bonus points for that?? :-))

I'll take the side of Vick just for arguments sake here....

QBs basically have 3 jobs, pass, run, don't fuck up. Handing off doesn't count as a job here. If you really want it to, then call it 4 jobs.

Anyway...Vick is the absolute best at 1 of those jobs (running obviously). Nobody is even close. And the best part is that the running part keeps plays alive. Vick can make things happen. So basically when you have Vick you already know that out of the 3 jobs a QB does he is the best at 1 of them already.

So now you just have to teach him to throw (which he isn't too bad at) and not fuck up (at which again he is probably average). There is not an NFL coach out there that won't think he can coach Vick to throw and not fuck up.

And bonus, Vick is only 26. QBs with his skill sets don't peak until late 20s, (sidenote: not suprisingly because this is when their athleticism fails them and they are forced to learn to throw better and not fuck up).

So why do you pay Vick and keep him? Because in one or two more years he is going to take a big leap forward and become the next Steve Young.

OK back to reality...I really think that Vick is a punkass bitch and doesn't work hard enough to ever become great at throwing or not fucking up. Of course having never met him it is hard for me to defend that position. If I were the Falcons I'd trade him for whatever some team would give me. And there is a team out there that would give a lot, mainly for the reasons I outlined above. You would probably get 2 ones and 2 twos for him.

Hick-Hops said...

Vick lost all credibility in my book when he passed for 250 yards and said that was to silence the critics. If 250 is his goal then maybe #1 pick was a little too high. Although being a Bucs fan, it is nice to know that he piddles on his leg a little bit everytime he takes the field against us.

whocares said...

He wont leave for one reason: ATL is a predominantly black town and the fans of the Falcons are predominantly black. At the risk of sounding like Limbaugh, I think that Vick puts asses in the seats because the majority of the fans enjoy watching a black QB lead their team.

If the owners get rid of him there would be some serious backlash...

According to Scouts Inc. Branch is the 13 ranked reciever. But they also have Steve Smith 10th so I don't know how accurate that is.

El Padrino said...

beth- good stuff

your right about this...he's a freak for sure but not a nfl qb

and besides injuries and int's the guy fumbles an awful lot, mostly when he escapes the pocket with the ball at his hip...he's just not fundamentally sound. He would have been perfect for the XFL.

to his defense he did hand it to farve in lambeau (prior to that they were undefeated, i think) that one year then fucked minny (like you said) with a sick scramble in ot.

and jaywhite, your saying there is 30 receivers better than Branch.
Stop it. I'll give you 20 and that's pushing it. The guy had an amazing super bowl and if it weren't for an injury last year he would have had 80-90 catches. your hate for the pats is blinding you to see good players.

Beth82678 said...

Damn temwr87, you almost had me convinced til you waffled! (Just kidding. :-)) But it was still interesting to read and I bet a lot of GM's and coaches out there think like that.

And hick-hops, I remember when Vick said that about the 250 yards and it bothered me too, but not for the same reason as yours (although you make a good point). I was bothered that he was so concerned about his critics, cause it made me wonder if he's more worried about what's doing what's best for the team or about silencing his critics.

And finally, whocares I think makes a great point. I don't think it's racist, I just think it's reality. Same basic reasoning as to how I knew at the beginning of pre-season that Shockley would be the Falcons #3 QB if he was close to actually being their 3rd best, cause his UGA background would get interest and possibly fans (that's if anyone's actually stupid enough to go to a game in hopes of seeing a #3 QB).

Hick-Hops said...

You also can't forget what Atlanta traded to get Vick from San Diego. Does anyone really think the Falcons wouldn't be a better team with Ladanian Tomlinson and Schaub than they are with Vick. And it isn't like Tomlinson would not have put asses in the seats.

Martin VanNostrand said...

Jay white - I think Branch is a good wr but it his enviroment has a lot to do with it. His numbers speak for themselves. Good enough to trigger a salary escalator in his contract and that's why he makes more than many others from his draft. I think most of his success is due to who throws him the ball but I know you hate Brady as well. You can argue against stats and championships all you want but facts are facts.

I think there are better wr's in the league. Definitely 5-10 and the Pats must agree which is why they are not willing to give him crazy cash. Branch is a top 15 wr for sure but in reality he will only as good as his QB (whose success is directly affected by the O-line). In ATL Branch wouldn't make the pro bowl. In Indy he probably could.

re: Branch for 2 first rounders...teams set the bar high that way when they compromise they still get what they want. Branch is adequate, he's a solid #2 receiver, don't forget Brady makes everyone look better then they are.

As for Vick...

I've only seen this casually mentioned once. He's in the wrong system. Plain and simple. Vick can gun the ball. Trying to take his game from scrambling and gunning it to timing dink and dunks with the West Coast Offense is retarted. Put him in a variation of the run-n-shoot and he'd put up sick #'s. Yes he gets way too much media hype but the guy has talent.....

Beth82678 said...

Bryan, I'm with you about Toucher. I can't listen to 99X in the morning anymore it's so excruciating now. Toucher could be over the top but at least he was interesting to listen to.

Anyone see Agassi last night? Great comeback but he's getting bounced in his next match. And the post match interview was over the top. They were acting like the guy just won the tourney.

In unrelated news, his wife, Steffi Graf, seems to have lost her penis and dare I say looked mildly attractive.

The Rev said...

Thank you Beth. I did bump you up a day because I have another one this week to roll out and I wanted you to be first since you got yours in first.

I have El Padrino's college football preview ready. I'lll throw it out there tomorrow if everyone is cool with that. Then we can have some of our contributors finish up Thursday and Friday.

As far as Vick goes, I come from a unique perspective. I was the biggest Randall Cunningham fan there was back in the day. Vick can't hold Randall's jock.

Randall could throw just as well as he could run. What he had a problem with was the playbook. But Buddy Ryan basically had no offensive plan. He just put the ball in Randal's hands and told him to do something. It almost ruined Randall's career. He developed bad habits that he did not shake for quite some time.

It wasn't until he got out of football after some down years, and went with Minnesota that he became more of the classic QB and set the league on fire once again. That was a beautiful thing to see.

That needs to happen with Michael Vick. But too many coaches and fans are still enabling him to be the QB he is today. With Randall, caches stopped enabling him and started demanding different things out of him. It took him several years to get it, but he eventually did.

The Rev said...

I watched the second set last night before I went to bed. Agassi looked good, but he had to play a lot of tennis in the first two sets. You can't tell me that won't take some steam out of him.

Steffi Graf always looked good. It's just that on the court she wasn't trying to be pretty. And it showed. But dress her up and throw some makeup on her and she is good looking.

I always thought the same thing about Monica Seles. On the court, frightening. But then I saw her off the court in a nice outfit and makeup on a TV interview and I thought she looked great.

But hey... none of them are Maria Sharapova.

Beth82678 said...

All Steffi Graf ever needed to look amazing was a nose job. I'd kill for legs like hers...

Spaceman Spiff said...

cunningham had a beautiful deep ball, i dont think vick could have the same success with randy moss that Randall did. The falcons keep trying to bring in a good receiver to help vick, a la Peerless Price, but they need to fix him first, or no matter how many guys they bring in, he'll just keep throwing to Crumpler.

Isiah Thomas said...

Not to stray off topic, BUT....just saw John Kerry is making claims of voting improprieties in Ohio in the 2004 Presidential election. This guy can't be serious (John Mcenroe voice). Please Rev defend your boy, defend your party.

Kerry needs to go crawl into a hole with his "plan" and shut the hell up. And take Al Gore and his loxbox with him.

Isiah Thomas said...

all you have to do with Moss is toss the ball up high and he'll get it, Vick can do that....

Look at the WR's Vick has had to work with, when losing Brian Finneran is a big deal, well that's all you need to know.

The Rev said...

I just looked at the Agassi score, which I hadn't seen until now.

Man, three tiebreakers in the first three sets. That's like playing 4 sets of tennis crammed into three sets.

I don't care what the score says. Andre Agassi played the equivalent of a 5 set match last night.

branch top 20..is laughable...even the bills got a reciever better than him..evans undoubtably is better and after this year peerless should prove to be a great number 2 again...obviously his numbers will suck cause JP stinks more than beths shitload

Qbs skills re: Run? lol...you mean avoid pressure...basically vick gets all his big runs when teams are in nickel packages but theyre in that package cause he did nothing on 1st and 2nd down..

hes a playstation QB thats it

Spaceman Spiff said...

i dont think vick can even do that much. Look at the pats receivers minus branch, how shitty are they, and would that stop brady from having a great year. You could give Vick 3 all-pro receivers, and Crumpler would still be leading the team in catches.

Isiah Thomas said...

I saw most of the match since it ended around 10 PST. He did play a lot of tennis and gutted it out. In his prime he would have waxed that guy. I think his next match is against the 8th seed. Stick a fork in him, he'll be bounced in straight sets.

The Rev said...

I will defend Kerry. But not as much as you think I will.

I actually do believe voting improprieties happened in Ohio. I also believe they may have happened in all 50 states. I also believe they have happened in every election we have ever had.

Voting improprieties happen all the time. But we pay attention to them in the really close elections in states like Florida in 2000 and Ohio in 2004. When a state is solidly decided, no one cares.

I don't know what Kerry is doing by bringing this up now. Maybe in his mind he really wants these things to be fixed. Or maybe he wants to make news for 2008. We all know he can't take back the 2004 election now. So yeah, I kind of wonder what his motives are. It's a liitle hinky.

But it doesn't ruin my opinion of him. I was a strong Kerry supporter in 2004. If he runs in 2008, I would support him. I thought he was the better candidate in 2004. But that's just my opinion.

And Al Gore should have been president in the first place. There.. how's them apples?

re vick v. schaub: i was speaking to my friend, a huge falcons fan the other day and advocated the same thing, ditching vick and playing schaub. he said that schaub has thrown 10+ passes in a nfl game 5 times, (4 starts) and the falcons are 1-4 in those games. doesn't mean schaub isn't a good qb, but just something to think about - i bet the falcons are.

re branch: as a pats fan i would think they are trying to get equal value of branch to their team, not to a neutral team. branch is a superbowl mvp, and the #1 WR on this team which naturally leads to a lot of intrinsic value to the pats. he may not be that valuable to any other team in the nfl, and that's fine. it's pretty clear the pats are trying to bring back value of what branch is to their team, and not a neutral team in a perfect marketplace.

Isiah Thomas said...

Getting back to the Vick argument:

I think Vick might have a better chance at being a good qb in any other system than the West Coast offense. He has a strong arm, but it is woefully too inaccurate for the west coast offense.

He'd also make a fine receiver/running back - probably 10 times better than Randle El.

Isiah Thomas said...

the Pats are ruthless SOB's...

No way they trade Branch unless they get knocked over by an offer.

They're just using this trade to show him he won't get what he's asking for from another team.

"He's been very good in the big games, combining for 21 catches for 276 yards in his two Super Bowls. No other receiver in history, including the great Jerry Rice, has had two Super Bowls as productive as Branch's"

it's one SB mvp, and a track record of performing when it's needed the most. that's where his value comes in.

but speaking of his injury, this whole comingbackfromsurgerywithinoneyear thing will backfire on at least one of these guys. if i was a GM of a genetically restructured QB, i think i'd hold him out for at least the first 4-ish games of the regular season. granted your team needs him deperately.. but your franchise needs him for the next 6 to 7 years that he just signed for. their core will be around.. i wouldnt push anything.

RE: Don Nelson joke
That was damn funny...In geritol and vitamins, LOL.

RE: President
The Al Gore / GWB election just needed a whole do-over with new candidates.

RE: Branch
He is worth a little more than what the Patriots are offering. They won't trade him and they will end up signing him for a figure inbetween what they are offering now and what he is asking for now. Is he top 20? Hard to tell, Brady makes his receivers appear better than they are. Lee Evans sucks though, so he ranks above Evans.

Also, Theismann/Kornheiser at the end of the game was awesome. Theismann said something like you need to be short and quick to make the transition from College QB to WR/KR in the NFL. (He was talking about R. McNeal I think). Kornheiser got all under his skin when he kept asking Joe why you had to be short. Why couldn't you be tall and quick...Hilarious. By week 4 of the regular season there will be blood.

TO is drama.. carson palmer is a top tier QB in the prime of his career getting a reconstructed knee and coming back in under a year. this is similiar to bball and the "jumper's knee"/microfracture thing. i would say this is the NFL equivalent. ya know.. Amare, Allan Houston, McDyess.. some people never recover from serious types.

this is much more of a story than anything remotely involved with TO.

I agree that you don't play him until he's ready. But if he's ready, you play him.

well there's no possible way he is back at 100%.. im not a surgeon (only on my off weekends), but isnt normal recovery time on this injury like 12-18 months? im just saying keep him out at least a full year doing rehab.

he definitely cant be 100% mentally either, i dont care what 'standard athlete quote' he says.

i just think this will come bite them.. he will tweak the knee, then it will become a recurring problem both physical and mental.

and if he sits out a few games this season, yet you have him for next season.. that is better than getting him hurt and not being around to be the franchise player.

and even if he did get hit by a bus, im sure they could have him on the field by the playoffs.

So every pitcher was aiming on the outside corner, way out and the hitters were incapacitated. If they swung, they missed because the ball was way out there, if they took the pitch, it was a strike. Did anyone see the Japan Mexico game 6th inning when Go Matsumoto came in? theres nothing those batters could do

Come on Rev. with your "he could get hit by a bus."

Who was the last NFL QB hit by a bus? Crazy talk.

The Rev said...

How about a sometimnes QB almost getting hit by a bus last year?

From ESPN.com...

DETROIT -- An hour after Super Bowl XL ended, Antwaan Randle El almost got hit by a bus. No, not The Bus, but a bus. Still wearing his sweaty uniform, Randle El busted out from Ford Field, into a light snow, headed across the street to tape a bit for "The Jimmy Kimmel Show," when …

"Whoa, baby!" he screamed.

Randle El can navigate a football field but occasionally forgets to look both ways before crossing the street.

The bus halted, its horn beeped and Randle El ushered his nine family members across the street, then into a building, down some stairs, through a kitchen, up some stairs and into a dressing room. He grabbed a rib off a tray, wolfed it down and yelled to the sky: "Thank the Lord!"

hAAAA palmers injury the equivalent to jumpers knee in the NBA...sure..except he doesnt have to jump hes afucking QB..thats why this injury is insignificant...tell me the last time a QB lost his career to a knee injury..even randall came back from serious injuries to still be an effective runner..and carson doesnt run so this is a non issue.....ron mexico is a great story..

and speaking on my own injuries in sports..and ive had severe ones ...carson is 100% mentally right NOW since hes never had an injury before....but if he gets a setback..it will take forever to be 100% mentally again maybe a couple years......when yhou havent had an injury you come back quick and think youre superman and everyone else who coudlnt come back was just a pussy..but its when you get that first set back that you begin to question everything movement you make.

We need one more person for the FFL, then we can start the draft.

Martin VanNostrand said...

I read on the WWL the other day the QB at Louisville had the mcl or acl which ever it was from an organ donor "braided" into his torn ligament during his surgery. Must be the same deal as Palmer. Science is crazy. One day they will be "braiding" gorilla knee ligaments into humans so rb's can have 20 year careers.

The QB from Oklahoma 2 years ago I think it was White? Won the Heismann went undrafted. He couldn't make the Titans 3rd string last year due to his knee injuries. Took the dude 4 sec to take a 3 step drop. Ended his career before it even got started.

Can we add Peyton Manning to the list of players that never got it done?

Who gets it done first? Peyton or Manning?

My money is on Vick....

I can't believe I'll back up Joey Theisman but he said one reason athletes recover quicker is because they are athlete's - meaning what might take a regular person 12-18 months of rehab would take a pro a lot less time. Since they are prob in decent shape to begin with and can be in rehab for 12 hours a day.....

I will now go maim myself with a weed wacker.

peyton manning is the A-Rod of the NFL

JFreak said...

Okay...so someone left the FFL

:(

We still need two more.

How difficult is it to find 10 football fans in a sports blog?

The Rev said...

It isn't finding 10 football fans that is the problem.

It's finding 10 football fans with the time to do this.

I know I'm strung out with leagues.

Isiah Thomas said...

we need 2 people to step up for the FFL....let's go... TWO people...

someone sac up.

what's the fee?

Dikembe Meiztombo said...

I can try to get my buddy Delux to do it. He's coming over soon.

whocares said...

I am DEFINITELY looking forward to El Padrino's article tomorrow. I dont know if it's his humorous posts, or my obsession with Super Mario Brothers, but I can't wait...

Spaceman Spiff said...

we cant go with 8 and have everyone with super teams?

Dikembe Meiztombo said...

No Fee, Pablo.

thejaywhite said...

I would do it if we did a live draft on yahoo not a blog draft where someone has to input all the picks afterwards

El Padrino said...

aiight when is the draft, tomorrow?

The Rev said...

He's right... no fee.

And the blog draft, I'd rethink that idea. After the problems blogger gave me today with loggin gin here at times, I wouldn't want that to happen while we are drafting.

I was under the impressions that we draft directly at Yahoo and make comments over here as we are drafting.

Isiah Thomas said...

pro's for the blog draft:

nearly everyone could participate
no time limit
no worries about finding a common time for everyone to get together - no worries about time differences, etc.
if it took 2 or 3 days so be it.

getting the results put it doesn't take that long...

El Padrino said...

forget it, i cant keep up with the comments how they hell am i going to draft a team

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

my work computer doesnt have java i dont think, but i wouldnt mind if you guys decided yahoo draft and my team was autopicked.

The Rev said...

I don't know.

It has fuck-up written all over it.

Even if we don't all have the time to do the Yahoo draft, I'm OK with letting the computer pick my pre-selected players. That's just me.

JFreak said...

I'm the only one who would have to input the results, and I could care less.

Isiah Thomas said...

you're prob correct Rev, to make it fair for everyone just do an autopick once the league is set...

GM-Carson said...

How about Ryan Howard and his 47 homers? David "Big Papi" Ortiz gets all the love, but Howard is putting up the same numbers...almost exactly the same. And Howard has less protection.

The Rev said...

Believe me... I think Ryan Howard is about to get a ton of love with David Ortiz on the shelf.

JFreak said...

ewwww...autopick draft

Isiah Thomas said...

yeah autopick really sucks but if half the league can't do the live draft...then they're at a huge disadvantage...

Isiah Thomas said...

Quite a few e-mailers have asked me to be a little more supportive of the guys in red, white and blue, but I'll respond by saying I don't see that as my job. When it comes to covering them, I strive to be as neutral as the Swiss. That's how I had to be before I came over to ESPN, and I'm sticking with what has worked for me through the years.

This is from Sheridan's article...honestly the guy must die, plain and simple. And he references a "vicious dunk" by Nocioni over KG and Duncan and gives the youtube clip...its a pretty weak dunk and neither player contest it...

The guy is seriously a commi.

The Rev said...

I don't know if Sheridan's a commie.

But it sounds to me like he is taking himself waaaayyyyy too seriously.

Spaceman Spiff said...

if the swiss were as nuetral as sheridan, they would be destroyed
